Thread: Factions in Space Forced Playstyle!!!!

It confines space to the GCW exclusively and that's where I disagree with it. I fight the GCW extensively, I play a declared crafter 90% of the time and I can't fight. But I see no reason why for instance I can't fly a neutral ship and choose to take a break from the GCW, to enjoy Space without hostility of PVP/Faction War. I don't want to be forced to PVP anytime I feel like hitting space.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought those answers were a bit cryptic.

Whether it was a direct quote or not, I think he was being unclear with his answers on purpose. What that purpose is (the Devs want to surprise us or they don't really know for sure yet) is still yet to be determined.

Either way, some of that stuff sounds really cool. Like the part about space being dangerous and things wanting to kill you in reference to hyper space jumps. Too bad it looks like beta for us won't be until August or so if we're lucky enough to get in

It would be nice if I could make it into EQ2 or Matrix beta to pass the time

Took about 10 reads to extract but the nut is in this line:

"You must separate the idea of being faction aligned in the game as it is now and being a part of the Imperial Navy, Rebel Navy, or Privateer space efforts."

We have been told the following:

Currently we have been told:

1. You will only be able to get 1 piloting profession. You can't be both a privateer and a Imperial Navy Pilot.

2. Ships will be restricted to certification within the trees. Such as ability to fly a tie-fighter falls in the Imperial Navy Pilot.

Here is where things get fuzzy

We don't know what ships will be in which tree. Who is to say that there aren't 2 or 3 neutral ships that might be in the faction pilot trees.

We don't know the overt/covert TEF status in space. They have said they still want PVP in space to be consensual. We have also seen them mention the permanent TEF.

I believe they will come up with a system such that you can be in the Imperial Navy and fly some kind of craft in space without being open to PVP.

I'd like to know what's going on as well. But really, being TEFed or not doesn't really matter to me. I'm a Smuggler, so I'll usually always probably be trying to slide out of a battle. It would be nice to be able to go into space without a TEF-- but if that's how the game is played, I will live with it.

SWG has offered a dynamic playstyle throughout the skills system, we are given the option of requesting factioned items but are not 'forced' to take them and this is where Space is different. Space forces your character to play a very specific role, and one I see as detrimental to RP. You ARE neutral/rebel/imperial you ARE nothing else in JTL. I'd rather see it be more dynamic and more flexible. I really don't wanted to be locked into a Tie Fighter. I want to be able to step out of my role as an Imperial Fighter, I do it so much (raids every night for the next three days) and sometimes, I craft just to take some time out. No dealing with 'uber l33t dudes', no smack talk, no bitching, and so on.

As has been said already in this thread, there is nothing that says every Imperial craft is a Tie, or that every profession only has 5 of the 15playable craft. It's entirely likely thatevery profession shares the same 3 "neutral" craft or the like. We just don't know.

At E3, while talking to Thunderheart, he mentioned that neutral privateers will be able to shoot down TIE fighers and other popular craft that players want to blow up. However, that could've changed, but I see no reason why they would want to.

"The way the content is prepared in the space expansion is like this: I'm going to have my access to Tie Fighters in the Imperial Navy, and I'll have access to certain types of ships in the Rebellion and certain types of ships as a Privateer. As I ascend each of these trees, it's required that I no longer be a full member of either of the other competing factions. What's happening here is that I just want to make sure that the content is separated in such a way that I don't have to continue to recheck your faction level or covert/over status. I'm just checking whether or not you're certified and I have a process that forces you to use that certification in getting into a ship."

- Cinco - Space Dev

At first it sounds like your faction determines exclusively which ships you can fly, until - "As I ascend each of these trees, it's required that I no longer be a full member of either of the other competing factions." You're either a member of a faction or not - there's no 'not a full member'. No being Rebel & Imperial?

I am Imperial but I sure as hell don't want to be limited to flying a Tie Fighter Variant. Three factions, 5 ships each.... Tie Bomber/Tie Fighter/Tie Interceptor... I don't expect to be able to fly an X-Wing but I do expect to be able to own a Neutral Craft. It's analogous to being in the army and being told sorry soldier, your civilian vehicle has to be jeep - off duty or not.

Unless the GCW revamp is utterly stunning this penalises people for being in a faction. I sure hope I'm wrong, I can't make much sense of what the dev is actually saying as the answers don't really give a clear picture, rather folding over themselves until it's obscured.

"Yeah, I mean...forced, yeah. When you talk about it like that it sounds bad, but it's absolutely true. There's no way in hell I'm going to let an overt Imperial fly around in an X-Wing, or a neutral for that matter. And neutrals have their own ships as well. The thing is you have to keep this separate otherwise it's going to be a bad, bad thing for everybody. You must separate the idea of being faction aligned in the game as it is now and being a part of the Imperial Navy, Rebel Navy, or Privateer space efforts."

Ahhhh - now there we have it. This is not good. I'm not impressed about this concept. Faction is a waste at present, I was a Colonel and I don't like the idea of being locked into a cramped compartment of a Tie Fighter any time I want in space.

although, assuming that's an absolute direct quote, it does sound kind of yammering and unclear, i don't see that it says you can't fly a neutral ship as a member of a faction. i don't think any of us wanna see imperials in x-wings, or rebels in TIE fighters(remember the rebel AT-ST exploit?). i think this is just a case of someone not trained in public speaking, being thrust in front of the public, and not getting his point across very well. we should just wait and see what happens, and what develops in the meantime, before we start to make any judgements. i mean, the space expansion hasn't even hit beta yet.

They have also stated that each of the factions will have a YT1300 so that will probably be the 5th one that you're looking for (if the other 4 are correct). I also have a feeling (hmm is it the force??) telling me that the lamda shuttle will end upin the JTL too.

I hate to disagree with you ... wait, no i don't. This is exactly what needs to happen. As has also been stated by the dev's Space is Dangerous. Don't want to take the chance of being spotted by a reb? Take a shuttle. This also guarantees that there are different ships, used by different groups, most likely with different abilities and not the homogeneity we see on the ground. Do you want ships to go the same route that armor has? With every single person playing JTL in the same ship? With the same stats?

Nope, i like what i'm seeing so far and i'll reserve negitivity until i see some reason for it and this ain't it.

I think it's more something like : if you fly your faction craft you are automatically 'overt' which is logic imo.

I'm assuming you'll also be able to have a second non-factioned craft with which you can covertly fly into space ?

the yt-1300 would probably be a craft you wouldnt have to fly overt, also they seem to stress the fact of consenual and contextual pvp, basically, you can duel or be overt. I'm guessing you can still fly while covert and not have to worry about it unless you are tefed.
