Thread: Merge freelancer and rebel playable ships?

I don'tthink combining Freelance/Rebel ships all the way is the answer. I would support giving Privateers the Z-95 Headhunter and Y-wing since they are supposed to be common ships anyway. Also, in my opinion the Privateer pilot profession does need a couple of recognizable fighters. I honestly don't care if I'm flying "the best" fighter, I just want one that I know from the movies or books rather than the Hutt and Black Sun craft we have now.
B-wing, A-wing and to a lesser extent the X-wing should remain Rebel only craft, butI think adding a Z-95 variant for Privateers that has mass equal to say, the Ixiyen at Tier3and the Y-wing (single seater, not sure which one that is) would acceptable. My arguement here is that the craft is widely used across the galaxy by private groups, Hutts, Black Sun, pirates, etc... and yet, the Rebels and only Rebels can use it.
I was eithermisinformed or just misunderstoodbefore the game even launched that I would be able to fly a Z-95 and the YT-1300. The Devs said that eachprofession would have aYT-1300, obviously what they meant was each profession would get a multipassenger ship. The Z-95 is by far my favorite Star Wars fighter, and I was thrilled to see that it made the cut in Jump to Lightspeed. However, when I discovered that I couldn't have it and the freighter I wanted, well... I wasn't very happy.
P.S. Also want the YT-2400, but that's another topic...
P.P.S. This is coming from a Privateer, obviously, so I didn't pay too much attention to allowing the Rebels to fly Privateer craft, but in my book, if they want to do that, that's fine with me. Personally I hate all the Privateer ships except the YT-1300.

Actually..i'm on the side of history against the people who allways wants balance in the game...
Just think about it...what was all rebels before joined the rebellion? Freelancers..or citizens..call them what you want...
Same for the ships..the rebels don't build ships...they loot it, or buy it...the same ships that (in my opinion)are available for everyone, everywhere in the galaxy...and was built by civilian companies like Incom and Kuat...

Sure, combine the Majority of Freelance and Rebel ships, with the exception being the B-wing and A-wing (NPC pirates really shouldn't have them...)). But give us Imperials the Lambda, Gunboat, and a TIE or two (I.E. TIE Vanguard?)). I'd find that fair, as an Imperial I have no desire to fly a rebel or neutral ship. I had a Smuggler's Ace on a different server, TIEs are so much cooler.

I agree we should merge neutar and rebel ships. In fact, most of the rebel ships (including X and A wings) are technically civilian ships, ans I keep seeing privateer (and even imperial) npcs using x wings (and the hidden daggers use A wings). Balancing the number of ships isn't really an issue since the the equipment ultimately is what makes or breaks the ship, no the chassis. On the other hand, there are plenty of tie variants I'd like to see in this game (as well as the shuttle)

i just wish as an imperial there was one ship i could paint. i mean, if i am 'uber master ace pilot right hand of the emperor with my cool skeletor hat', you would think i could have at least one ship to fly on my days off...
and now for something completely different:
we should get kill decals on the side of the ships for each corvette and station / star destroyer we kill. maybe even some nose art for the criminal types (reb / priv)
Well we can paint the luxuryyacht veteran reward, if that counts...

Just a thought...
It would be better if the playable rebel and freelancer ship would be merged in one group....all rebel and freelancer pilots could fly all.
I think the way it is now is not too good...im a freelancer, but i can't have an A-wing, but all pirates have it. The Z-95 should be the most common ship in the galaxy, but only rebels can fly it. Why?
Ok the imperials are an army..so its ok to only imps can fly imp ships.....but the rebeles? They are scrappy bunch of people fighting against the imperial navy....if a renegade corsec pilot wants to join with his ship will then let him...
Poor Han Solo...when he joined the rebels he had to change the Falcon for an A-wing....
it would make sense yes, but there's too many people out there that will flame for dumb reasons that can't be taken seriously
like, "authenticity" or "roleplaying"
in this case, those excuses do not apply, though they do in many other cases
i for one concure with this thread

Personally, what I'd like to see along these lines is not a complete merger, but a partial one.
Neutrals should be able to fly the Z-95, Y-wing, and X-wing. These ships were around before the Rebellion really got going, and are used extensively by pirates and many other organizations. The A-wing and B-wing, however, were produced specifically for the Rebellion and should remain Rebel-only ships, along with the Nova Courier. Neutrals should also have more Multiplayer ship options.
Rebels should retain the same number of single-person fighters that they currently have, but should have access to the YT-1300, and any other subsequent Neutral MP ships that are released. When it comes to one-man fighters the Rebels provide their own to their pilots, so some uniformityshould be expected there. Larger ships are more expensive, though, and the Rebellion can't afford to be picky about which MP ships fly in their fleet.
Imperials should retain the same selection they currently have. I know this kinda sucks for the Imperials, but as a member of the Empire, they are held to strict, uniform standards. To offset this, the Imperials should get more of a support structure. For example, the Empire could provide NPC wingmen to accompany the player (much like factional pets), have Imperial Stations repair Imperial ships for free, or lower the amount of resources required to craft Imperial ships dramatically, so that the chassis will become very cheap for them. Realistically, the Empire should be giving these ships to willing pilots for nothing, but that would tip the scales too far. Imperial Uniformity should come with substantial benefits to offset the limited selection.
I think something along those lines would make each faction a bit more characterful, and more in-tune with the way things were in the movies.

Tier 1 NPC's fly Firesprays, but you're not getting one of those in tier 1 either... I am happy that rebels can't fly my freelnace ships. Why even have a freelance faction if you give the ships away? I also have zero desire to fly rebel ships with my freelancer.
And to the person who isn't buying jtl because of lack of ship choice....? What are you saving yourself by not buying it now? Your subscription doesn't increase... All you are doing is letting everyone else get a big headstart on you in collecting components and perfecting their ships and skills.

I think they did the whole ship selection thing all wrong, Don't get me wrong the way they did it has its merits. The problem that i have is that the rebelions only exclusive craft were the A-wing and B-wing, and many other factions had the Z-95, X-wing and Y-wing.
Corsec's had access to Z-95's and X-wings. The X-wing being their trademark fighter.
Pirate's/Mercenarys used all they could get their hands on, they mostly stuck with Y-wings and Z-95's
The way they could of did it would be to get rid of the certs in the pilot trees for crafts, and put in teir certs so that every fighter has a teir level that you had to have in order to pilot the ship. To prevent pilots from using the other factions ships in missions when launching a message would say "You are using a unsanctioned ship for your mission. Please dock and swich ships if you wish to procedwith mission."

here's how to make people want to be freelancers without giving them exclusive ships: exclusive weapons. There are probably many types of weapons that military (empire) and paramilitary (rebel) pilots would overlook. However Privateers would probably take great interests in sonic mines (Episode 2), lightning cannons (expanded universe), and some kind of limpet droid that reverses the enemy's controls.
