Thread: Merge freelancer and rebel playable ships?

Just a thought...

It would be better if the playable rebel and freelancer ship would be merged in one group....all rebel and freelancer pilots could fly all.

I think the way it is now is not too good...im a freelancer, but i can't have an A-wing, but all pirates have it. The Z-95 should be the most common ship in the galaxy, but only rebels can fly it. Why?

Ok the imperials are an army..so its ok to only imps can fly imp ships.....but the rebeles? They are scrappy bunch of people fighting against the imperial navy....if a renegade corsec pilot wants to join with his ship will then let him...

Poor Han Solo...when he joined the rebels he had to change the Falcon for an A-wing....

This is why i haven't bought JTL yet, there isn't enough choice of ships. Also where is the YT2400?

Imp should stick to Imp ships though.

I guess you could say it's balanced, in that you can choose either your faction or privateer, and then fly under your side's colors either way. Would be nice to use cross-factional ships, IMO, or at least be able to use neutral ships as members of each faction. They couldn't do it just one way for rebels though, unless they gave the Imperial ships some sort of advantage. It just doesn't fit soud game dynamics to have it that way.

I do agree with both of you though: There needs to be more variety in the player ships for all sides.

I think the Z-95 and less advanced/simpler versions of the X-wing should be available to neutrals (maybe a version with less mass and 2 guns instead of 3, keeping the best one for rebels since its their trademark ship), since not only rebels used them.

Ringo the grind to master pilot is long so you are better off buying JTL now and grinding to master so that when the ships you want come out you can fly them. The grind to master pilot takes some people months.

Although I do agree that rebel pilots need some love in the Ships department i cant imagine the devs would ever combine them with privateers whole-sale. It just wouldnt be fair to the imps. I think it would be great if the future additional ships for JTL were dual-use either usable by rebel and privateer, privateer/Imperial, everyone, or just imps. The imps are the ones that are hardest to deal with as they have a rigid military structure so they cant really play with none "emperor sanctioned" craft really.

As far as achieving master pilot goes, you can get it as fast as you want it really. There are folks doing it in a few days, a few weeks, or a month or so. Personally it took me about 5 days, but i had some time available to me to sit and play and wasnt limited to working on it in the evenings after work like most folks.

i just wish as an imperial there was one ship i could paint. i mean, if i am 'uber master ace pilot right hand of the emperor with my cool skeletor hat', you would think i could have at least one ship to fly on my days off...

and now for something completely different:
we should get kill decals on the side of the ships for each corvette and station / star destroyer we kill. maybe even some nose art for the criminal types (reb / priv)

IMO it would make more sense that Rebels and Imperials be able to fly Freelance ships, however it would not make sense for Freelance pilots to fly Rebelion or Imperial ships as those are supposedly issued by those factions.

But to help everyone they should create 6 to 8 more ships to the Freelance line up, that way everyone is happy.

Not a flame but a question.

Then why have the Privateer Pilots skill tree? Just go Imperial or Rebel and have access to the ships you want. This would make the 3rd faction pilot tree kinda useless.

While agree that more ships over time would be great! And your point is a good common-sence one. Ithink we are too far into a 3 types of pilot system to make that a realistic change.

What I think would be a better option would be to release about5 new ships (4 fighters, 1 multiperson) and make them cross-faction certed. Basically make them truly neutral. To make it interesting though, Rebs and Imps would possibly not be be able to declare in these ships as they would be "private craft" (aka craft not certified to their factions). Sure you could take out Pirates and such in them, but while flying them you would not be able to attack or be attacked by Reb or Imp NPCs in space. Basically the equivilant of the craft a military person would fly when "on leave" or incognito. No one would know your faction affiliation so the two sidesof the war would have no reason to be hostile to you. They could pull the designs for these ships pretty easily from games like X-Wing Alliance so they wouldn't have to design new ones.

I agree with you and 5 stars, the freelancer content should improve so more smugglers can be like Han Solo and flying Rebel or Imperial ships would not be an issue for them.

However for it to make sense they can't fly military assigned ships (I am a civilian in real life, I cant go around drivingmilitary vehicles)unless some kind of content can be created where freelancers can actualy steel such ships and use them under extreme risks. Now that would be fun, don't you agree?
