I really hope shields in this game are like the movies, where they take a few hits and there gone. Becuase if there like in any of the X-wing games, there horribly unbalanced.

Freighters? Trading?

I already own X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter.

I want to trade, to make money travelling the galaxy as a trader, or as a passenger hauler...and those damn smugglers need something to finally do!

"We also hope to have well-known capital ships from Star Wars lore in the game as NPC-controlled opponents that will be central to epic battles."

Well devs- I'm gonna say I REALLY do not like this sentence.

Tens of thousands of people were hoping to fly in an Imperial Star Destroyer. Or to shoot at one. I know, I know, 'You can shoot at an NPC controlled one though...'

Arg! Might as well not even put them in there in the first place. We all know how the 'vehicles with mounted guns' plan turned out. I know you might say, "We plan on adding them as player-controlled ships later on through various publishes and patches *Cough* In 3 years or so *cough*"

We all know you're never going to get around to it if you dont impliment it pre launch. PLEASE devs! 95% of my hopes for teh SE relied on the possibility of commanding a capitol ship in combat. If you have to, I ask you to delay the release if necessary, to bring this into the game. You guys even admit there needs to be more of a GCW in the game. You're definately not going to get it with onlya fighter dogfight every so often.

It isn't the Galactic Civil War here. It's the Galactic Civil Skirmish. We had fighters go into Iraq. Those were skirmishes. We had hundreds of cruisers, frigates, and submarines in WWII. That was a war.

I have been following the development of this game since I first heard of its existance back in 2001 or so. You guys weren't even planning on allowing players to play as Imperials then. I've seen the triumphs and shortcomings of this game. I know how DEVS WORK!

I wanted this to be an awesome game. PLEASE dont let it fall short of an awesome game because you guys can't deal with a problem. You know what makes a great game? A game were the makers aren't afraid to try something new, and solve the impossible. A game with X-Wings v TIE FIghters has been done over and over and over and over again! Give SWG a unique feel and playing experience. You aren't going to accomplish ANYTHING if all you do is set up a VERY basic flight simulation in space. You'll have yourself a step farther than you were. You'll manage to capture the attention of gamers for a short period of time, yes. But is this what is going to keep people paying and playing? One of the biggest dissappointments I've had with this game was the failure to complete player-driven AT-STs or vehicles with mounted turrets. I knew since beta that you guys weren't ever going to go back to it. You probably never will.

I didn't have tiem to look through all 300 posts before me, but I hope others have voiced similar concerns about the future of this game. In all honesty, I've been getting bored with SWG a little bit, but I have been holding onto my account for the Space Expansion. I really hope this isn't just a large patch, but a tremendous step in the gaming department. If you guys could pull somethin goff like player-controlled capitol ships in online combat, you will DEFINATELY get a lot of gamers excited to play SWG, as it has never been done before.

as has been mentioned in another thread, i think they should add Kessel as a new location. they have their spice mines and whatever else, for the crafters and maybe smugglers, as well as those adventurous folk who would prefer to spend their time perfecting their Kessel Run

You have entered Kaadara.

A_pilot yells "LAAAAG"

Another_shipbuilder shouts "Can someone teach me Master Shipbuilder?"

A_newb shouts "Looking to buy a tie fighter, have 15k to spend, plz pst if u can give me one"

Hmmm.... well, let's click "Generate Ship" from my datapad.

You must be Overt to generate this vehicle.

i wonder if we will be able to customize the insides of our ships as well. if they get as large as the mellenium falcon then there is a lot of room to decorate it like the inside of your house. 'd like to live on my ship like a space pirate.

The_Shruberer -- "The_Shruberer has nothing to do now that there is no more floating shrub...."

all hail the shrub! i have always heard of its existence, yet never witnessed it.

Monthigos -- "Also, like many others have said, there should be some instanced docking bay. I think the best way to do this is to have a turbo lift. You hit the switch to the turbo lift and it takes you to the bay where your ship is. You can do all your maintenance from here. On top of that there should be a take-off animation. All of these things would help in the transition of space."

Monthigos, you make some great points, and this would be very good for immersion. please devs, do something similar to this, and dont have the ships strictly used from the datapad, as that is disappointing. even if it would take a little while longer to alter the current layouts of spaceports and cities, this would be very well worth the wait.

The economy's on most servers are already ruined. This system is not going to help. SOE is going to be in for a lot of complaints when they sell their customers an expansion pack that they can not fully use because they will not be able to afford to buy a ship in game.

Doing missions fora month straight just to own a ship is BS. If they do not come up with something extrordinary to control greed the space expansion will be the downfall of the game in the long term. The casual gamer will not have the time to do all the required missions in order to own a ship and enjoy the game.

Contrary to popular belief power gamers and hardcore online gamers are in the minority in SWG, most players are Star Wars fans playing their first online game so this could kill the player base for SOE.

All I can say is... SWEEEEET. I am so happy to get confirmation that the SE is twitchy skill based, like the X-wing vs. Tie series. My original purpose for buy this game was to become a pilot. I can also confidently say that if the SE delivers like all of us hope, this game is going to be off the hook like none other. Hell, I'm not sure I'll ever touch the firm ground after the SE ships (well, at least as little as I have to anyway :smileyvery-happy

All in all, good stuff so far... can't wait to get more info tomorrow!

LOTS OF MISTAKES IN IT. the advanced X-Wing which is in the back in 2 of the pics isnt created til New REpublic. Its the one with only 2 wings not 4

Skauna the two wing ship your talking about is the z-95 headhunter each is the earlier version of the xwing and the adv x-wing just has upgraded engines weapons and shield but the same hull config

Yeah, i think i need more information on how the twitchy fighting is going to work in this game. With what we know of the engine and net code, it is not very good at updating location accurately. Is the engine different for the space part? If not, i don't think the idea is very good. If the lag is still there in space there are going to be ALOT, and i mean ALOT of argument and complaining like, "i shot him first..etc." unless you can get everyones ping well under 100 at ALL TIMES, i wouldn't even think of implementing anything twitchy in the game. Don't get me wrong, I would love a twitchy aspect in this game to keep things diverse and interesting, butunless you can make a rock-solid netcode all you are doing is inviting moreflame to the fire. Iwould just leave it the way combat is done on the ground. You really will open a hole new can of complaining if the combat isn't done right.

i think i recall seeing somewhere that the space expansion is being developed separately, on a different engine then the current game, and that they will be merged together towards the end of development. i dont recall where i saw this, so i can say this is fact or anything, but i think i did read it. with the space expansion being so much different than SWG currently is, i would imagine they might as well develop them separate.
