As far as we know a Starfighters hyperdrive could be the size of a box of crackers- which would very easily fit in a TIE.

So i have hit a nerve metroid? I have given you an example of the size of a Hyperdrive, you admitied it yourself with the example from EP 1 having to do with that ships hyperdrive. I have also given you the example of how the TIEs with hyperdrives (vaders tie, the tie defender) look. Now then, i repeat my question, with you assuming that you can cut the size of the ep 1 hyperdrive by 8, determin where exactly you can fit a hyperdrive and its subsystems/generater in the small cockpit. Surely you can do that now cant you? Since your so set on them having it, prove that you can find a space suitible in the cramped **edit** pit.

BY ADDING NO HYPERDRIVES FOR TIES THIS IS WHAT I FOR SEE:
AT-ST style fights all-over again. I just see rebels parading around happy and imperials bitching. Why AT-ST style fight? Imperials parading around and rebels bitching. Also I see greifer tactics or really good tactics by using waves of enemies since we dont have the ability to follow you.
BY ADDING HYPERDRIVE:
By giving hyperdive to both sides it makes equal privleges. People will be happy because nobodys got the inherited advantage over them, all it comes down too is skill. Lets face it, everyone wants thier thing to be the best. Infact people who say our profession sucks constantly give ideas to make theirs better than everyone elses. Everyone should have thier penalty and their bonuses. This wont happen however, since people will just want thier stuff to be better.
ADDITIONAL IDEAS:
Giving Ties a ship thats static that they have get in range of and address for hyperspace clearance is, very in line with SW. But ultimetly its just eye candy, and a way to stall a player who has to move his hand to the mouse to select the ship.
Okay there aretwice as manyrebels as imperials. So we can't swarm them because we don't have nearly the numbers as compared to the movies. It's actually alot closer to theopposite, and im not complaining its true.
However if the imperials do not have some sort of an escort carrier, to take the tie fighters or tie interceptors to and from planet to planet.Those tiesalmost have to have hyperdrives in them at the moment, or it wouldn't be fair.... Because Tie Interceptors and Tie Fighters got around the galaxy on Star Destroyers and other ships ect. If those ships aren't going to be able todock with other ships to transportthen i guess a Hyperdrive would be the next thing. No it's not correct but it works and it is alot better than screwing the imperials over by not having hyperdrives. I mean its not the imperials fault that transporting by way of docking with a star destroyer or somthing isn't available.... So until then I don't really see a problem with hyperspace for ties.
Wow, wish I saw this thread earlier. I just want to give my general thoughts about TIEs having hyper-drives / shields in SWG. I'm probably reiterating what others have, said, but I don't really care.
It is understandable that the Empire mass produces TIEs as cheaply as possible, not installing hyperdrives or shielding to save in production cost. That way they can produce massive amounts of them. It is also assumed that the people who pilot these starfighters are your run-of the mill pilots. As far as I can tell, Imperials PC in SWG aren't your run of the mill soldiers.They are more like agents, as they don't have to follow the strict procedures of the empire. That being said I think it also understandable that an agent of the empire would have the liberty to modify a standard TIE fighter to their specifications for their own purpose, considering such upgrades would come out of their own pocket and not the Empire's purse.
I really don't claim to understand the layout of TIE fighter, or even if a hyperdrive could fit in it, let alone shield generators. However I don't want to exlude the fact that some ingenious engineer could design an abstract hyper drive layout that would fit throughout the ship. Nor do I want to exclude the fact that if people can build PSGs, they should be able to make a shield generator small enough to fit on a tie. I mean they did for Interceptors, and the cockpit of an interceptor appears to be the same size as a regular TIE. It seems to me the technology is there and that the only reason the Empire doesn't outfit all their ships with it is to save money to mass produce.
As long as regular, run of the mill NPC TIEs have no shields, and no hyperdrives as to Imperial specifications, I don't really care what modifications a special Imperial agent can / does to their own TIE fighter.
If you like I'll post the X-Wing cut-away which will show you how big the hyperdrive motivators are (there are 4, one in each one the large circular sections in theS-foils). But I think they fact that you can already visualise that they dont fit inside the main X-Wing body and had to be put on the wings tells you something about their size.
