And i love The idea, Very much but i just cant bear talking to Kratorssk (Very close Transdoshian Friend) in space and not hearing his *Growls* and *Hiss's* StarWars is a Very Strong Theme to break, and im not ready for something to take that away from it yet
The voice chat system should have a voice modulator option similar to the one used for xbox live that makes voices High pitched and low pitched. But changing pitch is alot easier to do than creating some sort of wookie or Trandoshian voice filter!

My idea (which mando incorrectly said difficult) was for a recorded track to be played underneath (lower volume) of non-human players, this is very simple to do when player x who happens to be wookie speaks a lower volume level (say 25% of the voice comm volume) a recording of a wookie is played and both are mixed together and then sent via comms (or it could be done the other way with the receiving computer mixing the sound) any full-duplex card can do this without even flinching (and if your using voice comms it better bea full duplex one) the excuse for this ? universal translator built into the comms gear add in a "tin" effect and you have something similar to ANH.

Voice modulation sounds like a very cool idea. In fact just adjusting the voice so that it is higher or lower could help out some of those people who have issues with the beautiful twilek flying the in the ship next to him speaking in a gruff "mountain man" vocie.

I'm sorry I just don't understand why you are even hereMANDAL this post is about voice comms and is as valid an idea and request as any other no where that I know of has it been stated that this is a request for release or even for the ground (well I might have asked for ground but thats me) this forum is for JTL not ground if you want us to have ideas for improving ground fine look over there not in the space specific forum ! The only time I've seen anything to do with release is that they choose a 3rd party software (most of which is PD anyway or freeware - maybe some shareware) and stick it on the cd which can be completed before going gold (it isn't hard to say eeni meeni mino mo, save it to the disk structure then stick in a few words on the install readme saying - "if you want voice for now here's a program run to install follow their instructions this has nothing to do with SOE"). Who says I'm not looking into ideas to improve the current ground game ? I'm currently talking to other players about a fireworks display at a new town on my server + maybe something to give away to attract people, what I'd like to see is you leave this post alone let us discuss voice and how it could be implemented infact this could be seen as helping the Devs as the basic tenants of voice have already been dicussed - ie seperate server to remove lag including P2P controled by said server thus cutting lag right down, voice overlay (heck if shoutcast can do it easily then SOE shouldn't have any problem whatso ever) on either side (I'd prefer on receiver end since it'll allow more of the users voice data to be transmitted giving better clarity of sound), heck if people would stop bad mouthing the idea and stamping their feet saying "no, no, no they aren't doing it so do something else" then we might have some people who are currently using the 3rd party softs give us details as to what lag they get using such and such a codec and bit rate with what connection allowing the devs more information.
To get to the point mandal you don't like the idea, you don't think its worth dicussing well leave and let us discuss it and let us get on with it without your multipul posts trying to put the boot in, I'll reiterate if you want to discuss new ideas to improve the ground game then goto one of the ground forums and leave JTL to discuss space related ideas. I will argue voice comms till I'm blue in the face I argued for it playing clan games on tfc eventually Valve put it into the game (which had been outabout 3/4years by this point) because the number of players using 3rd party increased with broadband becoming more common, it's more a case of when not if it will be released if we keep asking and discussing it we will get what we want (well maybe this is SOE after all). If you don't want voice comms go create your own topics to discuss the problems with it, we'll read it then address those problems in our own topics and not come over there shouting how it will be implemented and that you should stop being negative and plain unhelpful.

Thank you Belm. You bring up some good points in your post. In fact if you look back through the pages you will see that most people are either for Voice chat or indifferent. Manda seems to be the only one having a cow over it.
To All:
Lets assume for a moment that SOE will eventually patch in voice chat if its not in at release. Which 3rd party voice chat program do people prefer? We could weigh the pros and cons of each and maybe come up with a suggestion to SOE to put program "x" on the cd and endorse its use instead of ban us for using it.

Just Obi-Z here to bump the thread in hopes of anyone else with new ideas or ways to make this idea better.

Thread is dead... they said they want to focus on bandwidth for product... I'm not shooting down your ideas for endorsing Voice Chat... it'll just have to happen on the side as always by power players

I agree with the original poster. It isn't fair to people who don't exactly have the money for another voice system, and for people who would rather not have to make sure all their friends have it too.
With an in-game system, people who just met up could talk to each other without having to arrange to buy the software and make sure its the same and go through all the haggles and procedures. Just pop on a mic and some headphones and your in buisness.
Personally, I'm not going to get a separate voice system, because I think that *ideally* a squadron should know its memberswell enough not to have to talk, but we all see the flaws in that reasoning. So if they include one, I'll make good use of it.
