Thread: Pricing
Check out the SWGCraft.Com Forums for Architects. There is a Message (sticked so look close to the top) that has an Excell sheet with all the major Architects Wares, it gives a pretty good Pricing Estimation as to what you should charge.
Check it out, I find it very useful.
I'd recommend looking around at the prices of the other architects on your server. Start with the shops on your planet who are listed on the planetary map. Also search through the trade forum for your galaxy.
This will give you an idea what other folks in your galaxy charge.
If other prices range 30-60k for an item then it wouldn't do you good to be at 20k or 80k irregarless of how the cpu figures out.
Once you've got an idea of the prices in your galaxy then its up to you to decide if you want low prices or higher prices. There are pros and cons to both, just depends on the style of business you're running.
THis is more or less the answer given in the FAQ.
Your an architect. Do you really think that your skill is so worthless that you should sell an item that cost 100 resources for 300 credits? Do weaponsmiths do that? BioEngineers? Hell NO!
Do yourself a favor and price thngs for what they are worth. And how do you figure that out? Well what will teh customer pay? If they will pay it, it's worth that much.
Just a thought

Why do I feel sad for myself, only charching 6,5k credits per small house? :'( I need to raise my prices fast...
What do Eq. factories for for, generally?
Here's a big clue: THERE IS NO SET PRICE FOR STRUCTURES.
As businessmen/women, you sell whatever the market will bear or below. If the average market price drops due to a glut of ore or some other resource, you might have to charge differently to continue to sell as many as before.
As for selling below cost... take a BIG look at how business work in the real world. Some retailers and merchants sell some items below or so narrowly at cost, that they take a loss on them. But... they shore that up with profits from OTHER items.
Case in point: Go to any retail outlet that sells computers, fax machines, copiers or what not. The margin they have on that big $2000 machine is so narrow you can hardly fit a deer's hair between it. Why do they sell it so cheap? Look right next to it, the cases of paper, toner, cables, and other sundries... the markups on those is astronomical. Those little printer cables they sell with printers? Costs you six or twelve bucks.. cost to them? far less than a dollar.
As for The Architects complaining that people selling things low is ruining the economy, Well geez... someone with a bit more business savvy is trying to make a niche for him/herself... Adjust your prices, be nicer to your customers, or whatever it takes to keep customers.
I myself sell many things underpriced from some things here. For a while I was selling small houses at 6k, I was still making decent money on them, but it wasn't till I got annoyed and made big Excel sheets to show me where I was losing and making money did I decide to charge 8k Instead. Small houses for me are still one of my lowest profit item. But I clear out enough of them that I can feel good that I undersell the people charging 12k and 10k per house.
Can't compete with that? Examine where your costs are, try to lower your costs so you CAN compete, or hell... buy his houses and resell them. Nothing wrong with that except for image. He makes money, you make money... I myself go shopping around planets for pre built houses to fill out orders with because its a drain on my ore stock to be filling it up with houses that take a lot of resources from my pool. I bought two Large Naboos for 60k each, resold them at 110k... If you are on the Ketemoor server, you'll see me running around vendors, looking for materials or parts at low prices. I bought a ton of Generator Turbines off someone for 300 creds each and walls for 2k each.
No one says you have to only stock your items. I routinely make deals with different architects, doctors, and other professions to resell itmes. We have a bit of a mall where we're located, we get a lot of traffic... its RIGHT next to the shuttleport. It gives others a chance for others to have their wares seen and sold.
I harvest 80% of my resources. Some I buy when I see the prices low enough for me to get hold of. I also make deals with people who want to get into the business, I lease lots from people, I buy in Bulk (ore at 2-2.5CPU, Crap metal for 1-1.5CPU) I got a great start because I was one of the few crafters in a group of friends who wanted to play this game. Their lots are my gain. I drop prices for people who give me ore or crap metals in exchange... and I turn a tidy profit.
The Bottom Line is: Its Business. You either compete, or don't survive.

Pawlin, time to pump your "generic architect pricing debate thread" - it actually makes more sense than these "real" ones.
