A better comparison would be The TV Show West Wing. The show was conceived to be about the staff of the President. The actual character of the President was supposed to be sparingly used and in fact the lead in the show was suposed to be Rob Lowe. In fact the initial episodes proved that that idea wasn't going to work. Their audience wanted to see Martain Sheen as the president. They could have said "too bad, watch something else" and the audience would have happily done just that. They chose to listen to their audience and adapt the show to match the viewers desires their success proves it was the right decison even though it did lead to a contact dispute with Lowe and his departure from the show.

No, my point is that the title said what the movie was about, the reviews in the paper told me what the movie was about, The ads and billboards all told me what the movie was about. The last 12 movies (so obviously successful) told me what to expect in this movie. If I go, it's my own choice to view it.

The same goes for Jedi...is you didn't know that it was pvp, then you are blind and/or mentally challenged. Don't become a jedi then decide that the profession has to change for you to be happy...just stop playing your jedi and the problem is solved.

It doesn't matter what you want to be true. The reality is that Sony and LucasArts will made decisions about Jedi that lose them the fewest accounts. If that is your idea of "deal with it" then fine, if they find out it isn't then it is YOU who will end up having to "deal with it"

Sorry but I just cant agree with this.
If you want to not be bothered with Forced PvP, Bounty Hunters etc... drop all your Force skills and pick up non-Jedi professions again.
Think of playing a Jedi in SWG as having your difficulty mode on 'hard' while everyone else plays on 'easy'. Frankly I'm surprised that an old vet like you posted this.
I welcome Bounty Hunter attacks, they're exciting. I love a good fight against a good BH. And I especially love a quick fight against a bad BH.
The best... running from a trash-talking, jerky BH and making him waste all that time and resources.

I want to be a jedi, without the hassle with the BHs. I want PvP. But I want to choose the time myself.

This is a game, and BHs are ruining my gameplay. Each time I face a BH they have disrupted by play. and usually I die because i am usually in a tough fight.

We know people want to play jedi. And I know many people have left the game unhappy because they want to play jedi but get interrupted all the time.

It has to be possible to be a jedi, without facing BHs all the time they leave the house, because they want to play the game with their friends. Doing missions like Neocris or whatever else this game have to offer!

Also, theres nothing more in the game that creates bad mood between players then the BH forced PvP.

Get rid of it I say.

i agree totally. It just needs to go. It causes way too much strife, hate, contention, turmoil. Let those that want to pvp go and have at it. Those that dont let them not. "Well you shouldnt have become a jedi then" Fooey. Star Wars = Jedi and the force. Most star wars fans will tell you that. And why was this game created? For star wars fans. Let people play the way they want to play wether it be pvp, pve, or multiplayer cooperative play. The devs hit on it once with the change to onleave, combatant, and special forces status. And ill wager that they will again for jedi in the near future. Watch and see.

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

remeber though, the game can change.

Jedi is part of the game, therefore it is subject to change.

what ever makes more $$$ for SOE concering jedi in this game, then it shall be, end of story.

The devs can't do anything, they don't make the business decisions.

If the people at top say making jedi a starting professions will bring in more customers, then guess what, jedi will be a starting proffession.

They don't care if you think other people should have to earn their jedi. if making people earn jedi mean SOE will miss out on future revenue, then they will change it so they don't miss out.

You people forget SOE is only concerned with one thing, Revenue.

You really think they are going to make changes just because the minority wants jedi to be tough and risk losing the majority and gaining any new revenue?

Not if I oppose it, along with almost every jedi I know in-game. The people who oppose the so-called "forced pvp" are the same few that refuse to adapt to a 2 year old game. 99% of all the jedi I know believe as I do.

You certainly don't represent 99% of all the Jedi on this forum not even close. If you represent the majority you have nothing to worry about.

"I stay off the terminals and if i was unlucky and got too much vis and a bh comes for me i run away. Why? Because i WILL not be forced to pvp. I WILL not be content for someone else that i probably dont like any way. No matter what you precieve jedi to be because i dont precieve it that way and never will and there is nothing anyone will ever say to change that. I pvp when i want and only when i want. Does this mean i cant take part in alot of content with my jedi toon? It kind of does. Why do i not just become a Rifleman/Ranger then? Because to me Star Wars = Jedi and the force not Rifleman/Ranger."

Why did they release the holocrons in game?
Because a majority of the customers we're unhappy and getting frustrated, and if they didn't they would lose money to canceled accounts and maybe the game would have ended right then and there.

The day the bhs go from jedi, is the day jedi becomes a regular profession, it freaking amazes me to see the same people crying about being beated by bhs, about getting eaten up by other players are the ones who scream for the removal of bhs not relizing that will be the DB for the jedi proffession.

As many of you probably already know, Sony lost 98% of its profits from the previous quarter. Because something like that would cause their stock to drop dramatically and make them ripe for a hostile takeover, Sony acted quickly. They will be laying off 20,000 people over the next three years. Of those 11,000 will be in Japan. Sony has not stated how many employes in other countries are going to be laid off. Put simply, Sony is hurting in its pocketbook and needs to cutback on expenses.

This has led to some speculatiion that SWG, and possibly Planetside, will be shut down. Anyone who actually plays this game can atest to the fact that fewer and fewer people are actually playing SWG. On 9/26 during Prime Timemy brothertried to create a new character. Two of the servers had Light loads while all the others had Heavy loads. Two weeks later on 10/10 he tried again. This time 40% of the servers had Light loads while 60% had medium loads. That's right, not one server had a Heavy load on a Friday night during Prime Time. Yet two weeks later on 10/24 I checked the loads during Prime Time. Things had gotten worse. 65% of the servers had Light loads while 35% had Medium loads. Clearly, fewer and fewer and people are playing the game.

Reading the Official SWG message boards is disheartening to say the least. The vast majority are by people who are not happy with the state of SWG. Several people have cancelled their accounts. To help stem the tide, SOE has decided to introduce Mounts in the next major update. Many nerfs are also going into effect, including a meaner Death Penalty even though mob/pet/player warping is still extremely bad and numerous bugs exist in the combat system. The most popular class, the Creature Handler, will be getting positively raped. I say **edit** because something THAT severe is far too harsh to simply be called "nerfing".

SOE's Customer Service is among the worst in the industry. Their general attitude seems to be that you are a scammer trying to rip them off or get something that you don't deserve no matter how well documented the problem might be.

All of this had lead to the speculation that SWG will be shut down. Likely, Sony would have to pay some kind of money to Lucas for lost royalties but it seems almost certain that Sony is at best breaking even on SWG and in all likelihood, they are losing money. Sony could invest in Treasurary Bills and get a guaranteed 5% return on their investment. To induce them to spend the kind of money that SWG cost to run, logicallythey would need at least a 20% return on their investment.

R.I.P. SWG

This was posted 10/23/03 on a different forum. Before making predictions on what makes or breaks a game, understand that YOU are still playing it, and new players get added everyday.

When i started going for jedi i was promised more power but more risks, why do all these people want this proffession carebeared to death?

Our greatest risk are players who want all of us removed from the game.

The ingame power of bountyhunters is insignificant next to the power of a great amount of unhappy customers who rise this "issue" every time they have the chance. We as a Jedi need to come up with solutions how to adress this problem.

Also, forget about the x1.5 idea. There's no such design. Jedi is designed to beat eachother one on one in the FRS. We have not been changed since, except the removal of Toughness and Saberblock.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

Although my views on Jedi an Visibility are well known, I see your point. The problem comes from jedi wanting to stay off the boards while grinding faction. In your suggestion, that would mean that anyone would be able to run amok killing stormies and rebel troopers at will without ever having to worry about visibility. Faction bases, both player and static, would become "grind central" and would be exploited horribly.

The two possible fixes for this would be:

  1. Disable experience and visibility in Kashyyk.

  2. Remove or reduce visibility gained from non-factional npc's, while doubling faction visibility.

I am confused.
I do not see the connection between factiongrinding and Jedi.
If you want to factiongrind, bring something without a forcebar and build a nice macro.
While there's a point about stormies "reporting", Rebels should never have caused visibility ever... that's just... stupid.

Why wouldn't the Rebelion report an imperial jedi??

I think you have it backwards. The number of Jedi drive the reduction of power not the amout of risk. The amount of risk is driven down by the reduction in power. Since there is very little they can actually do about the number of Jedi witout damaing the subscription rate in the game I don't see that trend changing.

the saber tef, skill loss would make jedi less visible and make getting to full temp and maintaining it harder. it would also discourage alot of people from trying to get jedi.

a jedi should not be your main, but your alt, it shouldnt be the character you spend most of your time on.

I would also add that it is not so much the number of Jedi that is either driving the general power nerf and the raging Jedi hate but the number of visible Jedi roaming the cities and countryside thus the general theme of this thread to find a viable way to encouage, facilitate, and reward Jedi hiding.
