Thread: Remove alot of the Jedi by disabling visibility from NPC's

I'd like for BH to stay the hell out of my game and quit screwing with my 15 dollars a month.

I like to quest and plan on using my Jedi for it. So I completely agree with MsNil.

Star Wars = Jedi for me, just like most everyone else. Every other game has a PVP option. This one needs it as well, for all aspects of the game. Period.

Give us a one-time choice, PVP or no. I promise you won't see my saber anywhere near Theed. I've got better things to do.

Geez read the thread. It isn't about pvp.

Ultimately, visibility leads to forced pvp. Think about it.

I agree withthat point and personally I can't get enough pvp. I think the point that is trying to be made is that to reduce the constant "visible Jedi" roaming the streets a viable means of actually providing and rewarding Jedi hiding needs to be implemented. This being the JEDI forums seems a good place to flesh out the idea.

I agree with the OP. The visibility setup he has laid out could work and be a win-win situation across the board for the following reasons:

- The jedi (especially the new Padiwans) can then enjoy guild missions and content they pay for just like everyone else

- Groups wont have to wait on the Jedi/BH fight to finish before continuing on with the group activity/Quest near as often and thus wont have their gameplay disrupted by a BH ambush. As it stands the current system is disruptive for everyone and no just Jedi.

- Those that believe Jedi should be nay-impossible and should be hunted have the option to maintain their visibitly on the terminals till their heart's content. They now have the option to play their forced PvP card (lets see how many actually stand by their desire to be hunted) while the rest go about their business.

- Crafters turned Jedi can continue to RP their characters (if thats their thing) unhindered by hourly BH visits, especially since some have spent their entire SWG game career as a crafter and not a PvP monster.

- Cities and towns will be void of displayed jedipresence except those few special individuals who believe Jedi should be hunted as they will be dressed out and buffed, ready for the "light show"

- The majority of non-jedi players can go back to calling for nerfs on each other and leave the jedi to gank each other in the FRS (cause we know it will broken upon its release)

- Those Jedi that love to be hunted by BH's wont have as long to wait for their content to arrive, as they will probably have new content to play with every 20 minutes or so.

The downside to the OP's suggestion:

- BH's wont have as many new Padawans to hunt and can then concentrate on their new Loot Master missions. (We all know a lvl 65 Padawan is way stronger than a lvl 80 BH/MCM.

Sorry but I just cant agree with this.

If you want to not be bothered with Forced PvP, Bounty Hunters etc... drop all your Force skills and pick up non-Jedi professions again.

Think of playing a Jedi in SWG as having your difficulty mode on 'hard' while everyone else plays on 'easy'. Frankly I'm surprised that an old vet like you posted this.

I welcome Bounty Hunter attacks, they're exciting. I love a good fight against a good BH. And I especially love a quick fight against a bad BH.

The best... running from a trash-talking, jerky BH and making him waste all that time and resources.

Very Very well said and also a good analagy... in fact I might change my sig to reflect that.

Jedi (IS) this mode if you will.... NPC's or Live toons... it's the name of the game and risk of using the toon.

In a way we have very little left from the "Ways of Jedi", Im sorry but this one needs to stay -- this is a care bear mode without getting visibility and I don't like it.

We have very little strength left, I want to hold onto what we have left before it gets nerfed again.

Jedi is PvP risks -- this is in short going back to the Non-PvP Jedi crap we saw in the past.... If you want JEDI in this GAME then you need to understand how and what its role is. PvP is part of that role like it or not. Trying to change it is pointless, fixing things is more important then this info.

one of the problems with this... every single risk reduction for jedi = less power, saber tef and skill loss went, power went down, group vis gone, more power gone, this implemented we have no reason to be 1.5, not that we are now, but this would make jedi a major target for more nerfs.

When i started going for jedi i was promised more power but more risks, why do all these people want this proffession carebeared to death?

Positive reply. Thank you. And yes that is the whole deal. A genuine way to facilitate everyones style of gameplay would be in everyone's best interest.

Thats not a bad idea, but the reward would have to be substantial, such as premium pearls or special color crystals.

Edit: and if they did get pearls, IF they couldn't sell them, what good is having a 120/-9 pearl if you're hiding? This sounds almost like grinding again, but more afk if anything.

Thats not true at all. Ive been playing this game from the beginning and i didnt know jedi was all about pvp untill i unlocked. I dont remember reading any where in the game manual that jedi = pvp. Maybe i missed that part in the game manual some where. if any one can show me a quote from any where in the game manual that states that then i will conceed that it was and always has been about pvp.

it doesnt, but then my newest swg copy 2 months old still says that action and mind are attackable, that commandos craft grenades and so on. its pretty obvious jedi means pvp.

Obvious to who? It may have been obvious to you but it was never ever obvious to me untill i unlocked and started reading this forum. For the longest time the secrete to becoming a jedi was pretty much hidden so how would it be possibly beobvious that the profession was meant only for pvpers?

Message Edited by abbink on 09-28-2005 11:57 AM

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

I think you have it backwards. The number of Jedi drive the reduction of power not the amout of risk. The amount of risk is driven down by the reduction in power. Since there is very little they can actually do about the number of Jedi witout damaing the subscription rate in the game I don't see that trend changing.

If I am not entertained I quit playing and I quit sending in my money. If LA/SOE wants my money they will make changes to make the game more enjoyable to me. Now you and I might have different opinions about how the game should be played. They might have to make a choice about which of us they want to keep. Who do they choose? They choose the best way to keep the most accounts. In your face "Deal with it" is an attitude that you can espouse but the people trying to pay the bills in Austin, TX don't have that luxury.

I went to a movie last week. It was "Blood and Gore XIII". I bought the popcorn, a soda, and some ju-ju bees. I sat down and was appauled! There was too much violence! I want my $20 back! I didn't realize that I would be forced to see all the blood and gore! Change the movie for me or I won't watch "Blood and Gore XIV".

Who's point are you trying to make here? If "Blood and Gore XIIII" loses money the chances of "Blood and GORE XIV" getting made at all are slim. The producers are going to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out why current audiences didn't like their film. The next one will refelct that or it won't many any money.

A better comparison would be The TV Show West Wing. The show was conceived to be about the staff of the President. The actual character of the President was supposed to be sparingly used and in fact the lead in the show was suposed to be Rob Lowe. In fact the initial episodes proved that that idea wasn't going to work. Their audience wanted to see Martain Sheen as the president. They could have said "too bad, watch something else" and the audience would have happily done just that. They chose to listen to their audience and adapt the show to match the viewers desires their success proves it was the right decison even though it did lead to a contact dispute with Lowe and his departure from the show.

How many Emmy's did they get this year?
I missed that count....
Time looked like it was taking a toll on it -- and now arnt they going for a woman Prez? -- I can't rem what I saw though on TV from day to day anymore.

The female president is a different show. The Candidates on West Wing are played by Jimmy Smits and Alan Alda.

Emmy awards don't really pay the bills. The only thing they are good for really is free press that might drive up the ratings. Plenty of Emmy award winnings shows failed quickly because no one watched.

Man....I so agree with this statement. Also the group Tefs were fun because it actually "ADDED" content for non-Jedi. As an Antarian Ranger guild we would "Escort" the Jedi to safety and let me tell you.....that was a serious hoot. It added depth to the game as well as numerous RP opportunities. This is a Massive Multi Person Online ROLEPLAYING Game, yes?

Lol, I used to have a Ranger do area track for players when I was grinding lol -- I forgot about that (But this was when we had 0 clus of how or what visibility was lol) -- in fact we did not even use the term I dont think. lol man that was a long time ago.

No, my point is that the title said what the movie was about, the reviews in the paper told me what the movie was about, The ads and billboards all told me what the movie was about. The last 12 movies (so obviously successful) told me what to expect in this movie. If I go, it's my own choice to view it.

The same goes for Jedi...is you didn't know that it was pvp, then you are blind and/or mentally challenged. Don't become a jedi then decide that the profession has to change for you to be happy...just stop playing your jedi and the problem is solved.

While there's a point about stormies "reporting", Rebels should never have caused visibility ever... that's just... stupid.

Why wouldn't the Rebelion report an imperial jedi??

Becouse Jedi is not outlawed by the rebellion nor the old republic, nor the new republic, and finally I doubt there's any rebel who would go through with the fuzz of getting hold of Vader to report a Jedi sighting.

lol, good point

The rebels could however hire bounty hunters to hunt down and kill dark jedi
