Thread: Update on the Pearl Drops

The "rare" pearls are simply ones which dropped from very high level creatures. What changed was that combat upgrade altered the levels of creatures. So where a pearl might before have been considered "premium" because it dropped from a level 287 creature, now it isn't considered premium because the creature dropping the pearl isn't level 287 any more.
The possible stats that a pearl can give you are the same, regardless of the pearl quality. The only advantage a "premium" pearl gives you is a better chance of getting higher stats. "Fixing pearls" would be a matter of changing the level ranges for different quality pearls. This would be a retroactive change which would suddenly change all the pearls in the game to be high-level pearls, increasing the power of Jedi globally and almost instantly - Unless we simultaneously lowered the advantage of premium pearls so that they don't give as much an increase to the odds of getting higher stats as they do now.
We would rather keep the premium pearls as they are - highly desirable and much better (in terms of the odds of getting higher stats) than normal pearls, but not drop them as casually as they dropped in the past. These should be rare, elite quest rewards and very high-end, elite-monster drops - not things that players "farm" from creatures that are no match for the player.

Tiggs with all due respect this looks like "legal-speak". You have explained the situation but offer no why to resolve the issue and have left the reader in a position no different than he/she was before reading the text. At this point I can only say that the Development Team has 'bungled' this issue. Whereas a yes or no answer would have sufficed.
Yes will allow Premium Pearls . . .
No Premium Pearls will no longer . . .
The constantly postponing the resolution to this is creating more confusion in the player base.

I for one think this is one of the most unbalanced systems in the game as far as the jedi profession goes and should be completely revamped how sabers are built and the DPS is determined. If I was sitting on a pre-CU saber with an ADK I would be keeping to myself and hoping they never fix it. But alas I am not, my saber has a DPS of 399 and has been that way for months thanks to the poor number of pearls drops, the poor way they tune, and the poor economy of this game. Maybe it's called bad luck, maybe it's called bad development. There are many wonderful things about SWG, this is not one of them.
63 "Good" Pearls tuned since CU -> Best got +110 damage, -4 FC, second best got +70 -4
"Lol" ?
/agree premium pearls should be dropped from tough mobs.
Ideally a mission to get these pearls would be awesome. Something similar to the BH missions which are netting millions of credits for the loot drops. Just have jedi face a dark/light jedi with a chance of dropping a pearl/crystal or jedi skill attachment tapes depending on the level of the mission.
problem is that there is a huge disparity between the pre CU jedi/very wealthy jedi and the post CU/poor jedi. The damage potential that a pre CU jedi can do is way more than any of jedi making sabers now. I got lucky and inherited a few premium pearls post CU.
You should also tighten the tuning ranged. no way a premium should ever tune below 100 damage.
Make sure to add a number of levels of pearls/crystals. All we see now are good and they have a huge range of damage from tuning.

So in essance Tiggs, those that COULD farm the premiumpearls before the nerfand have 4 each in thier LS nowwill nowALWAYS have an advantage over those that cannot farm them today.
That means you should either allow casual drops of flawless and premium pearls again, or you make it so that they are rewards for Jedi-specific quests or Elite/Boss loot drops and then automatically have better damage modifiers than the current limit for pearls.
If the theoretical maximum for those pearls is the same, there is no way they should be rare loot drops, as lightsabers are inferior compared to other weapons anyway.
Perhaps you should play a Jedi a little, Tiggsy, so you can experience this yourself. Maybe it will occur to you that, in the interest of fairness, the best CL54 lightsabers should be as good as the best CL54 weapons in the game.

i've had guilds get 118 -9s from good pearls... the system is fine.
all these new jedi want an uber saber without working for it.
older jedi had to solo grind for months to finish our templates, not to mention all the tk/bhs were ALOT harder to beat than the post CU bhs
todays jedi get to group grind, and not get vis from it and get exp wayyyyyy faster cuz stuff dies faster and you still get full exp.
so it seems liek a fair trade, we got a harder grind + premiums, they get an easy grind + goods.
ps
premiums/flawless still tuned for crap most the time also lol
Your sooo full of it its pathetic.

Well Tiggs I can say this THAT is the biggest load of CRAP Ever that right along the lines as that so called smuggler or ranger or squadleader revamp simply isnt going to happen .. You know for a FACT they do not drop .. So stop trying to blow smoke up someones behind and FIX THE things now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your not to bright are you?
I'm sure using this salt to get somthing done helps........not.
Thank you for the response on the much needed pearl fix!
I have one problem with these being high end loot though. If they are supposed to be so rare and such then shouldn't premium's have an incredibly high tune rate? Like no lower than at least 100dmg.. For instance right now if I tuned a pearl it could tune for 32dmg -2 FC.. If these pearls are to be made that rare I don't think it will be much fun having to do alot of (questing?) to only find out your reward is a premium pearl that tuned to crap.
I hope this will be added soon as I am currently a BH chew toy with my current low dmg saber.

So in other words, encouraging elitism and division between the haves and have nots, while limiting the acquisition of these pearls to those who are already more powerful than the rest of us and don't need them. Sadly, I am not surprised.
And some of you 'older' Jedi can stick that attitude where the sun don't shine - I am currently working solo having dropped all my old skills (deliberately), beginning as a CL 8 with a training saber. Some new Jedi may be taking the easy route but not all of us do, so keep your generalisations and elitist attitude to yourselves, thanks.
