Thread: Ranger Revamp

You keep insinuating that we're not supposed to critique your ideas, but instead just sit back and say "Wow, that's great" to keep your ego high. Without some discussion about what you say, it's just a wasteful post that'll drop off the page forever getting no attention at all. We must address your issues alongside our own because that's what a community does. I was just trying to help, you were trying to act like us common posters aren't worth your time and only developers need read your amazing posts. That's the basics, don't read or do, you've already made up your mind.
Dead wrong, I wasn't expecting any feedback at all from anyone but developers. And for the record, I've been playing for over 2 years. I initially started out as a hunter.

FWIW, if you're expecting feedback from Devs, and especially in this forum.... you're hopelessly lost. Maybe you're sufferingfrom a bug in your forum areatrack and thought the devs were this way, when they're really all overtormenting the SLs by munching popcorn and posting about their favorite missions in the game (isn't Dev Tracker a wonderful tool?
) We've had 2 dev posts that I can think of here since the CU, and one of 'em was the template "looking for a new Corr" that Tiggs just posted. The other was afairly cryptic one- or two- liner from TH about how they wanted more input/info from the community and needed the help of the community (or something to that effect) that generated a ton of off-topic posts from dev stalkers, and never saw TH or anyone else from SOE reappear in the thread. So, unfortunately for you, I doubt very much that you'd get actual feedback from any red names here, or really anywhere else.
You CAN expect to get feedback from us regular Ranger type folk tho. Your ideas weren't necessarily bad, but as Phenix and several others pointed out, they were really not anything new or outstanding either - most, if not all, of them havebeen discussed and discussed again, and then resurrected for yet ANOTHER discussion, and are likely linked in the stickies at the top of the page to some very long, well written andquite thoroughly discussed posts.
It's great that you're thinking about these things, and please do continue to share ideas. But don't get upset of folks DO critique them, or add to them, or point out that <Ranger XYZ> posted something similarlast week and we had a 20 pagediscussion thread about it. Nobody is trying to squash your ideas by quoting them and expanding on them or pointing out flaws in them. We do that quite frequently here for each other, it's one VERY good way to help build an idea into something that will stand a lot of scrutiny and questioning by the larger SWG community and the Devs if the idea ever DID make it to them, in some form. So please, keep posting ideas. Take in the feedback from some of the folks here who have written some of the best proposals and analysis of Ranger skills in the past (that means folks like Phenix, Owen, Nemo and others) and use it to build your ideas into something better. Don't take any critiques personally, they are not meant to be personal attacks.
Unfortunately, things here seem to be devolving into more personal flames and all, and I hope that doesn't continue on ALL sides. We all have a right to post our ideas, but in doing so we DO open ourselves up to discussion and disagreement from the rest of the community. If you continue to post and take the stand that nobody here is "good enough" to comment on you ideas or provide feedback since they aren't magical red name Devs, then that does seem to smack of some kind of elitist view, and THAT isn't really productive or useful to the community in any way, and will likely result in many if not all of the "forum regulars" ultimately writing you off as a troll. A lot of us put a fair amount of time and effort, in a variety of ways, into working on ways to make Ranger a much better profession, and coming in here, posting ideas, then immediately getting defensive and somewhat arguementative about folks actually commenting on those ideas isn't the best way to try and win people over to your point of view. Likewise, for those folks on the flip side who are starting to get a bit... flamy... just let it go. If the ideas are really that bad in eveyrone's eyes, or just already been presented better in the past in other threads, or there just isn't that much that people want to discuss here, the thread will drop faster than a drunken bothan in a punchbowl.
Make a tent so you spare yourself a 1000 meter ride to closest player city.
And with that comes crafting stations for those of us that use them, as well as a unique product no one else can create.
Make traps you can pretend work on the creatures. Atleast they make loud noises.
The one trap I use works, and lets me solo any animal in the game. It snares them just fine, though obviously my roots and state effect traps which I don't use don't work.
Try and track the creatures you are after faster than the mission waypoint leads you there.
I must have missed the last time Krayts, Gorax, Snorbals, etc, were added to the mission terminal. Silly me.
Mask scent and camouflage, yeah this is ever so useful for those that did decide walking was better than riding a swoop.
Still avoids getting hit by animals you pass, or whenever you get off that swoop, from being attacked, you dolt.
Obviously it needs to be fixed, what do you think we do here? We made our stickies, we know our problems inside and out. You whining about it does about as much good as any other person that drops by to complain about our problems once a week. Give your ideas, sure, but don't act like they're somehow better than what we lowly deluded rangers can come up with, because ideas are an equal playing ground.
If we sat around whining as loud as you all day we might start killing eachother before a dev ever heard us. Welcome to smugland, where we don't complain, because we're used to being ignored.

Clicky
MBH, MRangers.
Can cloak in the middle of players
Can STEAL items and credits from other players..... god help us all if they can steal sabers
I really hope you are kidding on that one.
PvP steal has its limits, my guess is that they will steal any generic item loot, or any non crafted item from your inventory... (You kill a lvl 1 NPC, the Ranger will steal that CDEF pistol, so they will be more like janitors, removing all the crap from the players inventory).
Plus, I dont see any reference to give defenses to ranger in there, Ranger will be like a spy now, so they have to hide, if they are caught, they cant really defend as well as a M Rifleman for example. I would say Ranger (after the revamp) for a BH is a waste of skill points.

Someone did not read the entire revamp carefully. There will be no stealing from players. Just NPC's.
someone did not real carefully enough. PvP stealing IS in. However there are rules.
I take that back, I misread it too. Limited stealing of player special events items. Not saber, lol
PvP stealing is supported by the system, but it is limited to only specially marked "steal-able" items. Steal-able items are clearly marked and currently only take the form of special mission and/or event objects. Steal-able objects are issued to players under the similar circumstances as other PvP events/missions/quests. PvP stealing is only possible versus players that one could already attack (factional enemies for instance) under existing rules.
