Thread: More info on Jedi Visibility...

I think that if the patch notes would be as detailed as the clarifications JustG or any other Dev gives us, there would be a much much less extra work for you guys. That time could perhaps be spent on more urgent things...
Maybe it would even lessen the amount of angry and upset threads and responces.

Well, so much for actually being able to SOCIALIZE with others... my hopes were up that I would finallybe able to hunt with guildies, friends or that I would be able to help out random noobs without having toconstantly lookover my shoulder for a 20 person gank squad approaching.

I know Jedi are supposed to be rare, and in hiding, but come on... this is a Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game. Playing with even one other friend is far too risky under this system, which is complete crap. I just want to go out with my friends, have fun hunting with them, and just generally enjoy the character that I've put so much time and effort into.

Show off Jedi suck, and they should be penalized for doing so. But at the same time, people that want some actual interaction other than /tells or PvP shouldn't run the risks of being penalized the same way. In my opinion, hunting alone in the wilderness fighting creatures, group members, members of the same faction (including NPC's), guild mates, Neanderthal (Jantas, Mokks, Kungas, etc.) or "rogue" NPC's (like NS or SMC), and neutrals should NOT increase visibility at all.

The rationale behind group members, same faction members, guild members, neutrals and same faction/high positive faction NPC's not increasing visibility is obvious. They are your friends and would not report you, or in the case of neutrals, wouldn't get involved in picking sides. As for the Neanderthals, how the hell would they report you? Have they got satellite uplinks stashed in those grimey loincloths of theirs? And in regards to"rogue" NPC's, I'm fairly certain that that Nightsister Stalker you just fought wouldn't dial up the local Imperial detachment or Rebel hideout and report that they had been assaulted by a Jedi...

Things that should raise your visibility... showing off force powers or your saber in public, fighting withinapproximately 128m of,or directlyagainst a hostile (low or opposite faction) NPC, fighting around opposite factioned players, and PvP (with the possible exception of defending yourself against BH's since this would cause a visibility loop).

I am in a small guild, and would love nothing more than finally being able to have some fun with my friends while I'm on my Jedi... and I'm sure they would appreciate the "cool" factor of having a Jedi fight by their sides. As it stands now, I can't do this, or else a huge gank squad will roll up within minutes and totally wipe the floor with me...I alsodon't have the luxury of calling in 20 melee stacker friends, with insane DOT weapons, to come and save my ass.

Admitting what earns a Jedi visibility (after the first horrible miscommunication) was a big step. Now please, allow Jedi that have no desire to show off, to socialize and play with their friends finally. This lack of eventhis nominal "reward" is unacceptable considering the penalties that we can incur.

PS. Failing anything with visibility changing to make Jedi reasonably sociable, at the very least, remove this GTEF crap. It's just plain stupid, and no fun for anyone in the end.

Equipping a lightsaber is an action that triggers visibility. Having it equipped is, most likely, a state, that doesn't generate visibility. The reason is simple -- since having the saber equipped is a state, there's no specific action to tie the visibility raise to. And in this kind of programming, you don't want to "poll" for data since it's processing heavy.

So my educated guess is that you can run through coronet with a saber equipped, as long as you equip it when you're not around other players, and not get any visibility.

Wait Wait Wait,

JustG, if the act of equipping a lightsaber gains visibility, if you want to win some points with the jedi community, remove this one thing on the visibility scale.

First of all let me congratulate JustG for the explanation about visibility.

I believe it is the first time a dev/csr/mod, call it whatever you prefer, has actually bothered postingany such info on these forums. Even included a few numbers as guidance. Excelent piece of info, imho.

Now all i need is to stay in my private home and 'sell' investigation exp once i make it to knight, if ever

btw, I hopeyou can see how your visibily statementcontradicts the 10.3 patch notes in a few points.

Thank you =)

I love Jedi, this is absolutely the right thing to do. I hope the times of seeing Jedi around the major cities without fear are over. I can understand a group of Jedi moving in small groups to take care of business, but not strolling through major cities showing their lightsabers looking for overt factional players to farm. Now the Jedi get to be elusive, and loved, and become a legend.

I am sure there are people who do not agree with me, and those are the people who want their Jedi spoon fed to them. But this is the way Jedi should be. Now, it is your chance to become ultra powerful. There will be less Jedi, but there will be a small few who will rise above the rest. Some who besides these seemingly harsh consequences, excel and become true heros.

Ha- Ha- Ha. Great rewards... that's the funniest thing I've read all week. Great rewards = "be a gimped whipping boy".

So again, this comes down to double penalities..bottom line. I don't know what SOE is smoking with this pontification of a Jedi but let me tell you it is flat BS and everyone sees right through it. There is no big reward for Jedi..NAME ONE. I double damn dare you.

this is what you have helped to perpetuate SOE, this same exact crap.

I went to Rori and Talus tonight for an hour and a half, and at every mission I had an NPC spawn next to it. If I go to Dantooine, there are enough players there to shout the nearest Star Destroyer in for a bombing raid. I think visiblity needs a serious revamp or there won't be any Jedi for BH's to hunt and both professions will go down.

i was on Yavin 4 for over 2 hours getting pistol xp, and do you know what? I have met only 1 player at the starport and only 3 npcs in 2 hours of playing!

Bravo! I think the system is good and will keep my fellow Jedi from showboating and/or being careless. I enjoy the added level of difficulty that Jedi presents (but only because I have that extra character slot to play as well when I need a break).

To all of those who say that they cannot stay off the terminals, I say you need to just be more careful and thoughtful about your actions. I play almost daily and have absolutely no problem at all staying off the terminals. It is a pretty easy, but unforgiving system.

Buildable planets (thus high traffic planets) arenot your friend.

Lol@equipping a saber increasing visibility.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen for a long time. Is any dev playing a Jedi ? Do you guys know WHY we equip sabers ? Do you guys know how much damage ADVANCED STRAFE does to us with no saberblock? It is the SYTSTEM you brought. Omg. I really can't believe this. Someone wake me up please.

If you aren't a knight and you aren't on terminals i doubt anyone will Advance strafe you out of thin air. If you are a knight you are perma overt, being in the terminals doesn't change anything, only you can get attacked by someone(BH) that is not overt.

No that's not true you want just show to your friends how uber you are! If you want to just hunt with them use your other slot!

Why everyone thinks that exterminating Jantas and Mokks doesn't have to rise visibility? You think that if you destroy a village killing all the ppl there will not be noticed by anyone?

From my point of view is not that your friends will report you, think of it as your friends will someday bragg about theyr uber jedi friend while drunk in a cantina, the words will spread an someone else will finally report you or be heared by an imperial high officer.

For Neanderthals think of it you dind't a clean work, some patrol found a destroyed village somewhere and found enough evidences (DNA samples) to know who killed them.
