What is pass thru healing? aka Assist healing.

When you have a mob targeted and that mob is attacking a fellow group member you will attempt to heal that group member if you use a heal such as Force Heal, B. Shot, etc. This is much like assist attacking where you target your group member and hit an attack special and you will attack the same target. However, this works in the reverse where you target the mob and attempt to heal it resulting in healing the mobs target.

Pros

1. You dont have to look at who you want to heal and can stay targeted on the mob but still heal a friendly.

Cons

a. Often you intend to heal yourself but wind up getting a "invalid target" type of error because the friendly is too far way.

b. Often heal a friendly even though you really wanted to heal yourself but with the auto target system (targets what ever is attacking you) it is difficult to get yourself targeted.

c. Often wish to heal a friendly that is targeted but wind up healing a different friendly or getting an error because just as you have your patient targeted a mob attacks you and auto targets you to them resulting in a error or a different friendly getting healed.

d. The work around many use is a macro such as "/forceheal self". The down side is one needs multiple commands so that you can still heal others as well as yourself.

e. Makes using enhancers (for non-Jedi) very difficult because there isn't a command that can be used.

What are your thoughts on this topic?

I'd rather have guild run capitol ships.

I'd rather have player driven AT-ST's

I'd rather have bigger space zone and launch/landing transition graphics.

Well after playing EQ2, I see where the CU developers got this from, and it works about as crappy in EQ2 as it does in SWG.

Even when the proper person or yourself is targeted, there are bugged times it heals someone else. (both games)

And there are times when you can't even heal yourself (like a BH fight) cause it is telling you that you can't heal them.

Play EQ2 - the same crap happens if you are priest. Not a Friend, Not an Ememy, No target selected, heals your group mate, not you even though you are about to die, etc etc...)

And it isn't just the players being stupid or lazy about who and what is targeted, the system glitches badly.

From EQ2 Priest, to SWG Doctor to SWG Jedi to SWG CM. Same crap different spoon.

A Pst - whoever the developers that worked on both games (or borrowed the same crap code) need to be cleaning desks or emptying trash somewhere not writing code that consistently fails and even when works, has a horrible expected result outcome from a Usability standpoint.

My two cents on the messed up healing in general...

I suppose one of the things I dislike about it is the work-around of creating a macro. Yes, it works great for healing yourself, but let's consider if you want to heal someone else. You would have to use a second UI Action Toolbar Slot for the standard command icon. With only 24 slots to use, having to create self-targeting macros as well as general-use icons so you can actively target a specific person wastes precious slots. yes, there are 6 panes, but in the heat of battle, I don't feel I should have to swap panes to do something.

It's been a big pain. I have two macros hotkeyed, one to forceheal self and other forceheal target because forceheal is so MESSED UP since it was introduced.

Personally I like using Pass Through healing etc, i have two heal buttons, the standard /forceheal one to use for pass through and a /forceheal self one to heal myself.

I have a hard enough time healing myself as it is ...

An idea like this would make me go insane

typing /tar Player for a heal is generally easy enough.

My opinion.

I don't have problem at all healing myself or others as I have a selfhealing macro for me and the icon /forceHeal to assist friends.

The very big CON is that I use 2/24 positions of my top toolbar for the healing and I'm forced to put 1 useful special to a secondary toolbar. In specific I don't have place for the Blind attack (mls here) due to the 2 healing's positions.

To the point, pass through healing blows. If I need to heal someone else in group, I can easily target and heal. Only have so much room on my primary toolbar, and it doesnt include icons to heal myself and another to heal someone else.

That single pro to this is kinda weak. Since if you target the person the mob is attacking and use a special it will function as an assist and make you hit the mob. Assuming that the person is attacking the mob.

For self heals i use /forceheal self macro - tied to my right mouse button works like a charm for healing others its ctrl+ number in group and heal.

You found 1 pro, and 5 cons.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Couldn't have said that better. I haven't seen it happen in a while but I use to scream when I would hit infusion and it goes on the tank instead of me.

Why not make a command that is defaulted to off. If you want it on /assistheal.

It could be great for a straight out healer but that's it.

Think I'm pretty much with most people here, this mechanic is more a hinderance than a benefit. You have to work around something that is not predictable. I use macros to heal myself, I have to because the default action is no longer to heal myself anymore, if I wanted to heal a group member then I'll select them to heal them. This pass through healing is a waste of code, has too many problems with it, it is probably the reason why at one stage if you where fighting a player that if you hit the default heal you healed them not you, even if the attacker was not friendly such as a BH with a mission on you or someone of the opposing faction.

Simply REMOVE IT, it is a waste of code.

Good idea. I'd support that.
