ok tested this - and wasted 200k xp /cry.. oh well


results are


damage taken with saber in handwith just xx3x defender from a level 76 enemy - 220


damage taken with saber in hand with x13x defender (+20 more ranged def and +2 innate armour) - 212 (8 extra mitigated by the armour increase so ranged def mod made no difference)


however id caution you before you go dropping x4xx defender - they may fix this as it is clearly not intended

just change your weapon - it willtake effect when you go from weapon in hand to unarmed - but then of cause youll want to re-equip your weapon - what i did was to switch to my spare saber and back again

Got it.


What I'm going to do personally, until or unless they fix this baloney, is to always have my gun or saber equipped, eat the food, de-equip and then re-equip and go off to battle!

Im still a little confused. I read the entire post and all the replies. Im a MDEF and almost MLS.


My take on this here is that if what you are saying is true then there is no point to ranged defense at all for my defender skills. Since Im holding a melee weapon it will use my melee defense. I can see how Force Valor may still work since it uses block instead of just upping my ranged defense but I still am confused.

The way I understand it is this:



The Defense mods work for the type of weapon YOU are holding, not what the attacker is holding.


So if you have a Ranged Defense of say 100, and you are holding a gun, then the +100 will help you no matter what weapon your attacker is holding.


If you have Melee Defense of say 100, and you are holding a melee weapin (Saber) then the +100 will help you no matter what weapon your attacker is holding.


When it comes to the foods - Use the melee defense foods if you are using a Saber, also when you eat the food unequip and reequip the saber to get mods.

I will test this right now since I am Master BH/MCABRS/CM4000 with tons-o-defense. With a carbine Equpied I have 245 Melee Defense and 280 Ranged Defense. With no carbine Equiped I hae 180 Melee Defense.


No carbine = 180 Melee Defense +100 Veg = 280 melee Defense


With Carbine = 245 Melee Defense and 280 Ranged defense


My damage vs ranged attacks was exactly the same both with no weapon equiped,( melee) and with a weapon equiped.


This shows that with a melee weapon you use your melee defense and with a ranged weapon you are using ranged defense.


I think it is time to switch food.

All very interesting with regards to food.

Here are some comparisons I did Saturday as I tweaked my template to drop x4xx enhancer for x4xx in defender. I had a guildie attack me with the same ranged attack before and after I changed my template. Neither of us were on foods or buffs.

original template, no FA on: hit for 469 damage

original template, FA on: hit for 316 damage

new template: hit for 299 damage

Since the innate armor added by x4xx defender is less than that provided by improved FA, one could believe that yes, the ranged defense mods do work in defender.

I am doing that guardian template or what ever it's called. It would be a touchy situation to drop the X4XX line of defender, but if you are in a quandry about whether to go 4440 def or 4040 def w/ 0400 enh, this certainly gives you a lot of decision making ahead of you. The inate armor is the only favorable part of the range def line. This certainly makes my head hurt.
That may even mean the preternatural defense line would be an effective defense stacking choice since it drives your def w/saber up to 205 with range def being only 95.

I find these results very interesting. I'll be sure to do some testing tonight, especially w/ powers.

And a second thought, anyone doing tests, please DO NOT look at damage after armor as different test targets have different armor ratings. Look at before armor damage instead.

So a little recap about whats needs fixing.


1- Change defenses (melee/ranged) to work based on attackers (his)weapons and not attackee's weapon (you). (So if you get hit with ranged weapon your ranged defenses work and if you get hit by melee weapon your melee defense works)


2- Fix issue with having to un-equip and re-equip weapons in order for melee def food to work.


3- Fix issue with melee food ending after its time elapses rather then at the end of your session.


So the real question here is... would you rather they work on this OR they work on the FRS?

Spiffy, and I was working on the x4xx Def tree lol.


Thankfully I have my last respec sitting on the very bottom of my screen


I will still wait to use it untill this gets fully confirmed, and see if they are gonna do anything about it.
