Thread: Hey I don't like PVP
abbink wrote:
i would have to say that alot of people got jedi, atleast most everyone i know on my server, because to most people Star Wars = Jedi and the force not necessarly because jedi = pvp. Especially now because there are alot better templates for pvp than jedi. If there is a chance for a star wars fan to play a game and work to become a jedi most fans are going to become a jedi wether they like pvp or not and no matter what it takes. In my opinion they should make a new alpha profession for the hard core pvpers. id bet you wouldnt see a population overload of that new alpha profession if it had nothing to do with jedi and if it was solely for the power gaming pvpers.

Well said! Pretty much every game has a PvP server for the hard core kiddies that enjoy that kind of game mechanic. This game is PvP optional, heck even factional PvE optional, yet this mechanic (BH Jedi missions) continues to stay in the game despite it having *no point* to be here any more. BH already has enough "content" with NPC missions that pay decently and give decent to great loot. No other single profession in the game has any kind of content like that. Yet they also get to hunt player Jedi, and their purpose for doing so went away eons ago. This really no longer has any use, and has only brought about disgust and profanities among players.

So you're saying because Bounty Hunters no longer control the population of Jedi we should just scrap the whole system of Jedi being illegal and player Bounty Hunters being contracted to hunt them?
That's a load of garbage.
That's exactly what I'm saying. If BH *should* be hunting Jedi because they're illegal, why aren't they pulling Force Sensitive NPCs or Dark/Light Jedi NPCs as marks for their missions too? I think your statement of Jedi being illegal was thrown out the window when:
- They allowed players to become Jedi.
- They allowed Jedi players to choose a faction, specifically Imperial. Or rather, forced Jedi players to choose a faction until recently.
I'm sorry but continuity is gone, and Star Wars Galaxies: As the Jedi Turns is the new order. ![]()
lots of people don't like PvP, honestly its the worst aspect of this game, next to all the profession nerfing.Sadly, its shoved down people's throats in many aspects of the game. First people complained about being ganked when running faction missions,or beingforced overt dueto healing someone on your side, or some overt bh hunting a jedi so his friends could join in.This is why combatant and special forces status's were spun out of the old covert vs overt system. Sadly this just allowed people to take over planets on a whim, effectively ending any idea of a galactic war because everyone runs around combatantby safely bypassing PvP from the galactic civil war, farming faction by taking down bases, and utterly destroying the GCW for those who liked it and wanted to actively participate.
Its utterly lame to be hanging out SF near your bases while a group of imp/reb combatants come along and take out all your bases, while you sit there and watch, unable to do a thing. working as inteded i guess. The prevalence of this in my server has caused nearly everyone who participated to simply say this is screwed and lame, and give up,and stop participating. the sorry state of pvp has also ended the wonderfull startport annoyance that meant constant duelling and pvp in busy public places.
Yay imps, you all own every planet on our server, you've gone combatant to own the galaxy, and now you finally go SFand hide out in gank squads allcloaked/covered in rebel towns waiting for any unsuspecting person to shuttle in so you can load kill them because you can't find any PvP anywhere unless you gank un-suspecting people like smugglers looking to buy faction and now cannotor people gearing up for a planned pvp event by camping the recruiters. Exploit no. not at all working as intended, but while the intention was to promote fun, it mainly, as usual promotes annoyance and frustration, and a lossof customer. The sad state of PvP means it takes 3 to 5 people 3 to 5 minutes to even takeonetkm/mpistoldown even when i don't fight back and just stim once every60 seconds lying kd'd and not recovering.Ihad just attempted to buy some faction and could not, and was launching to help a friend finish a spacemission when i got ganked. I sat on the ground laughing my ass off about how lame and stupid pvp and how their two jedi couldn't even dmg me beyond the power of my stims to heal. it took the rifleman to oncover and come down to turn the tide. I even had a nicecrashing festival left and right due to all the cloak/decloaking andlogged back in about 3 times before they finally killed me and I couldjoin myfriend to help them finish a space mission after attempting to buy some factionlol. And that's not even with my jedi. lol
my advice:
get fr2, and cloak while it lasts, andjust run. choose life and pvp denial.
let the ppl on the GCW forums whine. they do that better than the BH and Jedi and always have.

Can you guys give me and people like me a no-pvp switch, one time choice, and send cool NPC's after me instead. I'd have more fun then. PVP people can go deal with the trash talking idiots, and I'll have fun in my own little world...
Ok I'll stop dreaming.
Nah there needs to be some discouragement to stop everyone wanting to be a Jedi, and forced pvp discourages a lot of people. All Jedi know they will have to pvp - it's in the job description.
Nothing will stop people from wanting jedi, save the removal of the profession from the Game. Its pretty much the center of the whole Star Wars allure for normalpeople.
Why go imp to be a clone or a slave? I still wonder why peoplethink that anon-democraticregime is attractive, but then people are gullable to a charismatic person as hitler, napolean, alexander and many of histories great conquerorsonce proved, plus i guess from a RP point of view its easier to be evil since in RL evil has real consequences, whereas in game there are really no consequences so the anonymous idiots hiding behind their toon's cancan growvivaciously and be idiots together.
IfJedi had never been the center of the movies and star wars existed without jedi. then the problem would not exist. Take jedi out of the game now, and nearly everyone with a jedi will end their subscription.

I agree with you there, but what I meant was, pvp is not what keep people away from Jedi, pvp is what makes people go jedi.

A bit harsh there wouldn't you say MsNil? I love PvP and this is what drove me to become a jedi. Do I trash talk and go showing off my talents all over the galaxy, no. I do frequent the popular PvP spots, but that is the aspect of the game I enjoy. I stay away from the RPers for the most part, and when I do encounter them I RP to the best of my ability in a very respectable manor, usually. I also love the high end PvE, but it would be extremely unrewarding to me to be forced to finally grind out my alt's template just to participate in PvP. No area of the game should be locked to any class of character. If a Master Droid Engineer can go declare his factional standing and fight (even if only to lose) then surely my combat class should be uninhibited in the same way. PvP is like the ultimate combat... You either love it or hate it. PvE is just too predictable, though it too can be a rewarding experience.

The direct opposite is true. Forced pvp and a pvp rewarding system is what encouraged most of the current Jedi to become one.
Disable pvp 100% from Jedi, and you will see them drop like flies.
disagree 100% I went jedi because i wanted a glowy stick and force fun and the animal mind tricks. For me it made pve more palatable and gave me something else to do after doing it all.

hmm jedi pvp disabled = over half of all accounts being cancelled...sounds like a smart move
I think what people are asking for is a choice, just like everybody else in the game!
I finished my grind many many many months ago.

then dont grind kungas..do pickets or bols and drop the mission if npc's are within 100m of the lair...(100m just to be safe) oh and corpses of npc's give vis so having someone kill them then start to grind wont do u any good...staying off the terms can be done and im sorry its not as easy and just riding up to a lair and killing without thinking about your surroundings...

Cant play the game and stay off the terminals.
You are back on the terminal after your first pve mission, even if not a single player saw you.

I said "playing the game". Grinding is not playing. It's highly unlikely that I die from a Bounty Hunter attack, but since I cannot actually beat a Bounty Hunter without ArmorBreak, they manage to cause very long delays when I am trying to be social with friends. This is extra annoying in a group of Jedi becouse the same BH will most likely come back to each one if he is having an active day.A fight may last up to 20+ minutes, and watching it get's old very quick.
Pretty sure using what you call an 'alt' (supposed to be your main) would enable you to:
1. Stay off the terminals (especially for the 3 weeks it takes for vis to go away.)
2. Enjoy all the game content with your friends. I don't play my jedi and I'm able to, why can't you?
3. You can also socialize with this 'alt' (again, the toon thats supposed to be your main) You Jedi toon was supposed to become your alt the minute you unlocked.
I did not spend 9 months on my favorite character to play another. If I wanted that I could just have purchased another account anytime.

Well I guess you should expect anyone to feel sorry for you, since you decide to go against the way they have it set up. Sorry but, 'I don't want to play it that way' is nothing other than you not liking the rules. I put in as much work towards my Jedi, I seem to be able to keep within the rules of how you are expected to play, how are you any different?

The game today is not the same as it was when I became a Jedi.
And the way Jedi act and the continuous breaking of the rules is what got it to where it is today.
