Well the age old question popped its ugly head.

Yes the true battle for most of us was Pre-9 vs. Post -9 unlockers

Pre-9 I did 30 holo's, don't think its makes me better than anyone, but at the time I think it did make you a more well rounded player because you knew every profession in and out ( or at least i did, I didn't afk anything till like the alst 2 weeks and then I didn't have much choice) I could answer everything about a profession.

Now for those that want to say the Village is more limiting, yes I agree it has its limiting aspects, however I know probably 100 jedi on my server that would have never unlocked had it not been for the Publish 9 change. They simply refused to do the work required. ( Yes I know its a game and work is relative).

Now Solo-Grinding vs Group Grinding

I remember this feeling the OP was talking about, I remember making the mad dash to the jedi trainer, or calling your Master Jedi ( I'm an RPer too ) to come train you before a BH got you. Each box ment so much. Being solo, just like the hologrind, you had a chance to learn each new saber skill ( or at least I did, I ground using each one because I wanted to know how to use them all effectively, although 1 handed was always my favorite) each healing skill, or whatever you chose ( yes I ground Post -9, missed Pre-9 by a day or 2 )

I am currently regrinding now, being my beloved Master Healer was completely destroyed. I have to say IMO I undersand why new players want to get done quickly. I always thought Jedi gridning in a group would be more fun, but honestly its not. Its very boring and mundane and even though its 100x slower I find myself pulling missions solo on all kinds of planets and not really worrying about the xp.

In the end, it doesn't matter. Jedi will never be what it was, nor will the game. I still enjoy playing somewhat I just do different things then I did before. I would find it interesting to know how many people would be jedi now had it not changed.

I am always asked how to unlock jedi by new players, my answer.....

Play the game, chose a profession, go exploring, and play the game as a regular character. Get the experince of SWG before being a Jedi, once the grind consumes you and then your finished its just not the same.

I have 2 jedi. Yeah 2.

One i have unlocked prepub 9.....was hard to grind and hard to unlock...but really rewarding in the end!

The second i have unlocked 30 days ago and now i already have a FULL TEMP JEDI....so what remains of the jedi profession?

Its power? No not really...jedi are not that powerful believe me

Its coolness? Well, if you need to have a jedi in SWG to feel cool........you have some problems

Its exclusivity? No more......as you can see i grinded a full temp jedi in 30 days...chatting with 8/10 other jedi...smashing lairs without thinking.

Where is the old good SOLO grind on Endor ?

Where is thatunique feelinginspired by the fact that you were fighting in an hostile planet on your own?

Where is that sense of risk that made the grind exciting? pre cu the grind was a bore dont act like it ever was real exciting

Where is the adrenaline given by a dot appearing on your radar? adrenaline? i more felt fear when i saw a dot and went crazy with trying to store my padawan stuff (saber, robe)

Post CU

Full-template grinding time: 28 days in spin groups

Max EXP gained in one playing day (8hrs): 3.2 Millions (!!)

Pre CU

Full-template grinding time: 3 months and a half (when i unlocked it took me a lot longer due to the fact that i got many sports outside the game, didnt even complete before the cu hit. Unlocked jedi i think january or february. Cu struck april)

Max EXP gained in one playing day (8hrs): 950k (i always got around 400k before i burned out)

BH encountered: 7

I got my Jedi in February, three months before the CU. And I remember going to Endor and getting 200xp per Borgle Bat

The nervousness in seeing a dot is not comparable to now, but I still havent got a full jedi template. I do not power grind everyday, but good luck to those who do.

No point in comparing the old vs new method, as the old method is long gone. Just let the Jedi who are grinding now do it the way SOE have allowed.

Im sure new Jedi, me included, still get that emotion when a BH appears, or a dot hovers at the edge of your 256m map. The original poster's issue seems to be personal, he has two Jedi, one with each method, and he didnt get that excited with his 2nd Jedi. Thats probably cause he has done it before, only longer.

Just my thoughts...

I really wish I could go into hiding and grind out my skills solo. It would make me feel more like a jedi in this time period. I unlocked postCU and I have to say you are right to a certain degree.

The CU made grouping for xp almost necessary. Unless you want to take 2 years to finish a template. I'd kinda like to be the jedi hermit that lives in the wilds of Dathomir or Yavin4 or Endor.

But I deal with the cards I'm dealt.

Respect to you young one!

Actually i do not hate the new jedi...i just dont approve the new game mechanic.

With this game mechanic you do not experience what being a jedi in this period means.

Jedi is now just another mere profession...not a goal.

I will admit. Spin groups are probably the mostgame changingstrategy that I've ever seen. Anyone can make truck loads of xp in a very short time. However, that's not just for jedi. There are other temps making that xp just as fast. Actually faster because they get 3 times more xp per kill and only need 1/6 (or whatever) the xp we need.

I was in mos veros grinding an alt yesterday. I had level 23 coming up to me and saying "is this a spin group. If not, Im not in". I took a group out and taught them how to grind the old way. We did quite well once we had some organization and control. It's almost like the new wave of players don't even know how to grind anymore unless its by spin group. So when I hear jedi say they grind full temps in a couple of weeks. I cant say that anyone who has done so is any worse or better than anyone else. But I can say that if you don't take the time to learn how to use your jedi, youill be a crafter with a glow stick. Learning how to use your jedi makes the difference betweent the jedi y ou constantly see on their backs and the ones you see standing in theed, overt tapping the hilt of their saber waiting for you to jump if you dare ( smile ).

Everyone can see the main problem with SWG now, its all Jedi vs BH. The GSW is as good as dead, everyone is too busy FS grinding, jedi grinding or running bh missions for loot to sell.

Everyone should probly stand back and look at the situation as a whole, and how things use to be and are now, before they start flaming people and rasing havoc.

GOOD POINT MY FRIEND!

now everyone is in that damn village..............i send tells to friends and the answer is always : "Cant, im in the village"

**edit**..............at least with hologrind someone was forced to know every profession...Doing hologrind he actually MASTERED the game, knowingalmost everythin' from CH to Image Designer.

Now most of the ppl are Village-addicted that DO NOT PLAY SWG play VILLAGEGalaxies.

Cheesis K. Reist!!! What difference does it make? All of this harping about what was more challenging, and mine is bigger than yours gets old. The game continues to evolve. A new publish is on the horizon. Any move will cost more action, some will cost more mind. Time to plan and deal with what is coming. New food combinations and must have CA's. Get your your minds out of the morass of ignominy, and make good with what you have at your disposal. Play the game, or leave.

not exactly on topic, but i remmeber the first time i encountered a jedi, this was waybefore pub 9.

we were in an overt grp of rebels, and an imp jedi apeared. we must have been about 10 grouped players.

we all died very fast.

as much as i learned to hate the later jedi gank groups, man it was impresive. of course this was before anyone had any clue how to take on a jedi, but he was FR3 all over the place, swoosh swoosh swoosh back and forth, and i was barely even able to get a shot off on him, that missed anyway.

Once, Jedi were impresive.
Once seeing a jedi was like : /g chat Cmon, there is a Jedi in Ancorhead! lets go see.

now its like. "so when do YOU unlock?" "Are u full temp yet" "Got any extra jedi sea's?" and not even a jedi!!
