heres a thought...

the devs have no idea how they are going to implement a new system so they put up a vague friday feature and go home....leaving us here throwing out ideas for them all weekend long...

they come in on monday and voila...they have their new system all wrapped up and ready to be coded

so lets do this right...

my theory on their new system is that anyone who has ever killed a meatlump gets an email detaling exactly what they need to do to open their FS slot, along with 100million credits to help them along their way...

this only makes sense if you think about it...the devs are smart...i bet they use this method

Arjun:

1. It goes without saying, butanyone that unlocked their slot would of course retain their Jedi and their progress

2. The new method needs to be just as difficult and time consuming to keep the population down, and retain the thrill of becoming a Jedi

3. Anyone who is in the middle of their holocron professions, especially those whose holocron is silent need to be either placed along the new path at an equal point or if that's not possible or undesirable they may finish the traditional holcron method.

Anything else to add to this? There's a heck of a lot of uproar right now over this (not to mention PM's about it sorry I won't answer them I have no information). So I figure we can at least organize our thoughts in this thread.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for voicing EXACTLY what I had in mind. The NEW method should be the long run method, but there should be a "grace period" wherein the old system still works. I think this should be a certain time frame that is not too long but not too short either.

Given knowledge of the current system, I've mastered the following professions: Marksman,Medic, Combat Medic, Creature Handler, Armorsmith, Doctor, Dancer,Entertainer,Brawler, Artisan,Scout,Bio-Engineer, Image Designer, Fencer, Swordsman, Pikeman, TK Artist, Pistoleer, Smuggler, Rifleman, Commando, Bounty Hunter, Carbineer, and Ranger.

As you can see there are a number of profs in there with a LOT of work. I have ZERO desire to be told I must now do a ton of other stuff that is some huge tight lipped mystery that must be puzzled out.

This sounds like their idea of "organic" population control. I am not sure why we are adding a bunch of quests to the game, but considering this is Sony, they could be a nightmare. I left Eq because you couldn't do anything without 80 of your closest friends on multiple, multiple raids for hours at a time.

This change is bogus, and will set back those of us that have made progress towards opening jedi. For those of us that want to progress simply with holo's, let us. If there is going to be an alternate way to unlock, that's fine. If you add a bunch of mindless quests, I will be cancelling my account.

Changing the rules midstream is not right.

I'm still wondering where everyone got this information that the unlocking system is going to change. I saw NOTHING in the new anouncement that mentioned anything about a change to this system... Can someone please enlighten me???

"I am very hopeful it will be like the Epic Quest in EQ... maybe with some alterations... but similar..."

Man, I hope that is the last thing it is like.

For perspective, I'm an ex EQ player of 4 years. Got my Epics (I was/am a ranger, once a ranger always a ranger) early into the velious era, back when compitition was still very high on the mobs/drops.

I never want to deal with having to keep track of week long spawns and the like again. As annoying as the holo grind can be, at least you can do it on your own time.

As long as this happens, I dont care. Been silent a while and losing it all and starting at day one would make the choice to pay another monthly bill hard.

Having gone through a series of emotions regarding this topic, I would like to offer my opinion on the topic for the developers to take into consideration.

1) Grandfather Rule - existing characters should be allowed to continue on the path the development team set them upon. You have already coded the professions, the data exists. Allow characters created before a certain date to continue on the original path if they choose.

Both new and old system can be compatable. Adding a series of quests for pre-system change characters to find out the silent holo profession would be an excellent way to marry old with new.

2) Remove the Holo profession generation code for new players created. This will eliminate the old system will preserving it as an option for existing characters. Changes like the ones being proposed hurt the community that has supported you from the beginning. Or should I say, hurt the members who have dilligently worked towards become a jedi instead of sitting on their laurels. Why must the person who does nothing always be rewarded? (see: 2 free holos).

Jedi_Jet ... I have played this game for the last 3 months doing exactly what the devs told me I should do to become a jedi, and that is grind proffessions. I'm now working on #18 since they released the holocrons, and have spent literally hundreds, if not a thousand hours on this. The only reason I did this is because this is currently the way that you unlock a jedi. There is no other way to get a jedi... if there was, trust me I'd much prefer to do it.So after spending so many hours, and so many credits (close to 8 million on this now) and being so close to being done, and only doing it because SOEtold me if I completed it I would get my great reward... you don't think I deserve any compensation for my efforts?

Ignorance is every hologrinder out there expecting the devs to focus on their needs when there are many other things wrong with this game. Jedi are supposed to be a small insignificant portion of the player base. Yet it seems the entire DEV team has been busy working for your needs to make it better for the few, while leaving many professions out in the cold without a fix in site (smuggler/chef/pikeman/ etc etc infinitum) I did not post to be rude or ignorant, just because you don't like my viewpoint doesnt mean I am being ignorant....

I would say you all deserve to be recognized for your efforts, I do not agree with everyone sayiong SOE told them to do it (the grinding that is) Just because the path to FSCS was proven and Sony in their stupidity let everyone and their dog get holo's does not mean you were forced to grind those professions. Alot of the people I have seen be the most vocal aboout grinding are the ones that were telling people 3 mos ago to go play KOTOR or Academy to play a Jedi. This is not a JEDI game....it is supposed to be about STAR WARS thus the name STAR WARS GALAXIES not JEDI GALAXIES.

If you dont like the change remember the side of the box, and the instruction Holocron, they both say GAME EXPERIENCE MAY CHANGE WHILE PLAYING!

Actually they wouldn't even need to change any code. Just have mobs stop dropping holocrons, those who already have holocrons can use them, if anybody else wants to take that route they can pay grossly high prices to get somebody elses holos.

The jedi issue has always been a touchy one.

More so now more then ever.

Back when holocrons were introduced(or just a bit before) there was loads of moaning because people could not open the slot.

Now there is even gonna be more moaning. Why?

Back then a good portion of the player base were not utterly bored with the game.To be honest there is very little to do in the game after a few months at best.It lacks any purpose like say the RvR in DAoC.No dungeons worth crawling like EQ ,no intrestinging or even worthwhile quest like again EQ.

It has all the problems plaguing all the games made since 2001 no real ideas or content.

So only thing left to do for most is open the FS slot.

So everyone goes on this endless grind just to see the one side of the game they have not and are told after a boring grind this is not the way to open it .

Now why was this not made a quest based task from the start?Quest based made much more sense, was not utterly boring like a profession grind and might actually have brought some story to this story lacking game.

They used a quick fix to stop folks moaning.

It is amazing that for a company that made EQ they could go so wrong with this game. But then again you have to wonder how many of the original verrant developers are still with the company.

In a nutshell I think the developers have little idea of what they have for the future of the game .

Oh and is it not suprising that they closed the general board shortly before a)annoucning this b)offered free trial period to ex customers.

definately. why is it that there are those that have mastered 20+ and still working, and those that get the fs with very next profecian after there silent total of 5-6 profecians...if there going to change, and reward those that are so far along 12+ profecians, why could i not have been playing the melee charactor that i desire rather than crafting clothing and numerous profecians since silent holocrons. we should, and need to be informed quickly, can we finaly stop grinding, and start playing? do we have to dig thru forums to find answers, it was clear that there is going to be changes in opening the fs. lota of upset people, lota waisted time, lota no fun where fun could have been involved. i like the mastering various profecians, jedi are supose to be excelled and knowledgeable in many of these things, but there must be a limit. it would be much easier to have all 5 holos be specific, then 5 more be specific for 10 total profecians rather than 1 silent profecian and alot of unknowns and disapointments
