Thread: CIVIL Discussion about a New FSCS system
Fairness
I guess I agree that people who have been grinding 24 professions should have a chance to keep going. So I suppose that is a reasonable way of doing things. Those people who have reached their final holocron, should be able to continue on the random profession grind until they unlock. Perhaps though, they could still be required to do one of the quests. Or perhaps, if they DO try out any of the quests, all their work on the holocron can go away and they then must follow the new system. I dont know. I agree that they need to see some recognition for their work, but in the end they are now grinding for a different system - one without permadeath - and therefore I believe it should be somewhat more difficult.

please keep in mind I have opened my slot, and I understand it is very cheap for me to now be saying 'make it harder, make it harder'. I acknowledge this. However, I still feel this way ![]()
on profession 20, if all this time I have spent grinding professions is wasted, I will cancel all 4 of my accounts. This is absurd changing it when people have devoted so much time into the grind itself. 2 months of non stop grinding for what? for then to say thanks, but no thanks... um, yet another smart move.
The only way I can see them saving face is by allowing people to continue the way they have been, or choosing the new path. There is nothing wrong with allowing those that have been so far down the path to continue it. It just another form of attaining the Slot. there is no one set way, and this should not limit those that have devoted so much time into it already.
Profession 20, UGH
Let's take2 people. Both with 5 hours playtime a day for 7months.
First person Masters 20 professions, the other master only 10.
Does any of them have less right to that slot? Number of professions should never been and should never be part of the FSCS. It's flawed.

Forgot to add and someone brought this up about the Epic Quests in EQ.
I DO NOT want them to resemble the EQ Epic quests, those were too dependant on uber guilds and large groups. Opening the FS slot should bea solo and personal process and it should be doable by all professions, including crafters. That means no uber combat quests...
i read a brilliant post by NJ-Ragman about his ideas on what the quests were going to be
i hope he doesn't mind but i think he may be right so i'm onna paraphrase

In civil terms /Rude the EQ way of questing. Rare random drops from rare random mobs, requiring Guilds to Raid and kill. This isnt EQ in space, or its Not supposed to be. Dragging 40 whining disgruntled guildies to PoA for 3 days is No Ones idea of Fun! Guild requirements go in... more players go out. Not a threat, just facts, MANY players came to SWG because it was Star Wars and to Escape EQ.
Couldnt have said it better myself!! And dont forget the ultra-rare spawns with ultra-rare loot towards the epic quest. All of these spawns were heavily camped and contested for, and during these camps the real virtues of humanity shined through. Not to mention the joy of spending endless hours helping someone get his epic only to have that person give his guild the finger and leave.
Best way to implement it would be to:
1) Allow those on the silent profession continue until they unlock or get bored and move to the new system.
2) As read earlier have the road to jedi based upon a hidden jedi faction. But split the faction between the darkside and lightside.. Have each of these quests either give darkside or lightside and if you gain one you lose the other. Also to note if a person maxes his darkside faction he should start out as an imperial while lightside would be rebels.
3) Those that have not reached the silent profession have more jedi faction based upon how many they did master.
4) Make many random quests throughout the game that dont involve camping a spawns or fighting with other players but involve doing quests for Jedi npc's that give faction and each of these npc's will be rare but findable by those who are truly looking not just rangers. Have them spawn in some static locations like Old Ben's hut or ancient jedi ruins and random locations like out in the middle of BFE for those explorers. The quests could involve :
a)talking to the jedi npc and learning about the force.
b)fetch an item for this npc that will spawn only for the quest reciever.
c)go investigate an area dominated by the darkside of the force or the lightside.
d) an epic quest for those EQ lovers to build a lightsaber.
e) Help the Jedi / Dark Jediin a life and death battle against a rival Jedi / Dark Jedi.
f) Help old Ben get a ship to leave Tat...
g) Help an npc bounty hunter kill a Jedi to get darkside faction.
h) Defend a jedi as a group of stormtroopers charge into the cantina to kill him.
5) Also have the npc's triggered to the person that first spoke to it, meaning that others can interfere but not steal the reward. Example would be a person see's a Robed figure sitting in the cantina and sits down and talks to him. Immediately after the person talks to the Robed Figure several bounty hunters spawn at the entrance of the cantina and start attacking the jedi. Others can help the person that first triggered the quest or sit back and watch but wether or not the quest was completed with others help or the person died the only person that can get the reward would be the first person who talked to him. None of the crap where people wait until the person fails then easily mop up the rest and get the reward for the other persons effort.
6) Get rid of holocrons or just have them stop dropping.
7) For the lightsaber quest for those who liked the Everquest epic system allow those the quest to get the faction but as suggested earlier its only one of the many quests that give faction. Maybe make it give a good lump summ and have easily static locations that can be done quite regularly but the quest would be alot harder that the others due to the reason that it is STATIC. But let me stress just one of the many ways to get faction and not the only way.
If the devs do decide to change the path from grinding to quests the system remain a mystery. Also some thoughts on the quests:
every player has a random npc they must find. (different for everyone like the proffessions) to start the quest
Holocrons point you to a planet and a city or location.
The completion of the quest requireds one or many advanced professions dependant on your starting profession. i.e. start as a marksman you would need an advanced combat profession to complete the quest (like having to fight a tuff mob or master weaponsmith and make a t21 rifle for a former jedi)
you finish the quest for one then must find another jedi supporter on another planet. Using a holocron to point the way.
the later quests be given by jedi like a set of trials to become a jedi
just my 2 credits
The on-going debate here is "I mastered x number of professions due to this holocron madness and I want something tangible to show for it, in the event of the new system change!"
I can sympathize as I am working on my 22nd profession overall. I have done BH, BE, and Chef post-silent holo. While it is cool to a degree to say "Hey, I mastered 'em", it's also dually frustrating.
What I think will work and make people happy is firstly, re-route the holocrons. Don't make them no-drop, no trade, or anything to that effect. Keep them lootable, but install a new quest someplace - one geared for combat, one geared for crafting, and so on - that is fairly difficult and time consuming, but not ridiculous. That way holos will be more attainable, but not a hand out.
Secondly, keep the current 4+1 profession system, but make a twist at the end. Once that holo goes silent, you either have to do a chain of quests to find out that profession OR even better for the current Jedi's would be that you can group with a silent-holo person and similiar to the way you teach, you could see their hidden profession and tell them. This would give app exp to the Jedi and you could only check once to prevent exploitation. You could even show a system message onthe silent holo person's screen in case the Jedi was a mean one and would tell you Carbineer instead of Dancer.
I think this would make both sides not completely happy, but content. We need to find a medium of compromise rather than simply A or B. This would prevent excessive profession grinding, such as in my case, but would also make it difficult enough to make it a challenge.Personally, I think it would work masterfully - but share your thoughts and we will see.
Arjun, throw this to the devs and see how it flies.
Also implement a rewarding guide system like everquest or develope an intricate scripting system where GM's can set up random events that give minor Jedi faction points to everyone that participated. A thing to note these events shouldnt only be for those that play on the nights / weekends but those that play during all hours.
Imagine having a raid in wich you have to help an Imperial Dark Jedi escape from the warren. Drooollll!!!!
Or helping Vador himself and a handfull of troopers raid and destroy the last remaining members of the Jedi council meeting in secret at a heavily fortified rebel faction base.

Do we really want Jedi's to be as common as TKMs or MCs? I sure don't.
I may be the only one that feels this way but yes I do want jedi to be common.Star Wars episodes 4-6 may not have had many jedi but they played a very big role in the movies. There was a jedi or force sensitive in more than halfof the scenes.Jedi is the defining element to Star Wars, every thing else can be found in other sci-fi movies. To me the single biggest thing that can make this game more star warsy is jedi.
