so.. r we losing them or not ?
NO we are not losing them.
Are you positive about that, the key word interim sort of tells me that, we can keep them until now, then lose them when the "new premiums" come out to put everyone in the same spot.
always willing to lend a helping idea...
lets think about possibilities SOE has.
1) keep current tuned crystals/pearls as is. ---- doing this will make the stats on sabers drasitcally change once a new system is implemented. we saw this with the CU with looted items. it will happen to sabers as well if they impliment a change.
2) un tune and re implement the drops. ----- the pearls that we destroyed due to bad tunes will still be gone and only those people that kept their tuned crystals/pearls regardless of post tune will have a benifit here... seems most fair since the pack rats used their storage space as either a display or a just in case. ---- this route seems most likely
3) create a spawn with the level required to drop these loots again. I.E. lvl 300 - 500 krayts. ------ this is stupid but more likely than option 1. the people hunting will have to have a full group of lvl 80's and then fight for the pearl. look forward to "lotto groups" on tat. and then also spawn camping/loot stealing
4) continue with option 2 but generate moreSPAWN POINTS other than the dune sea and the grave yard. so after the pearls/crystals are un tuned, the 2 points of spawn are not over camped.
With all of these options the devs know that putting the premiums back in will cause problems on tatooine with server stability.. the amount of jedi on all servers has more than tripled since the village launch, and krayts were camped to hell pre village too. the change though neccasarry is a difficult one and requires alot more thought than just how it will affect your weapon... im sure there are more options out there, but these are some of the most obvious ideas and very generalized

Clarification to what is exactly ment by the following statement fromthe Stratics Chat logs found here: Click!
Premium Pearls Currently, Premium Pearls do not drop. We will bring them back into the game once we figure out a favorable implementation of these special items; there is not specific ETA for this change and all players that have the old Premium Pearls will get to keep them in the interim.
"interim" refers to the time between "now" and "when premium pearls return".
:smileyvery-happy
Its definately hard to trust SOE will come through on this one, especially for those that have busted their ass to get a near perfect saber. To be honest it seems like it would be a motivation of trying to milk us jedi for subscriptions in any way they can.
I.E. making our near perfect tunes < that of what new premiums would tune....or making us retune our current pearls / crystals which in the end is just as bad unless they have an incredible chance to tune perfect.
So what do we have to look forward to when premiums come back? Months and months of seeking pearls to make a decent saber to pvp with? Seems all SOE is motivated by is money...better hope they dont screw up on this one.I can see a lot of vet jedi accounts canceled depending on how hard it is to aquire a premium pearl and to geta near perfect / perfect tune.
I'm involved in project management for the UK Govt. You never make a positive statement in such a high visibility position; promise one thing, then are forced to deliver another....and you end up in a world of sh*t. Even if you make the right decision.
If they plan to let us keep the premiums we have, and tell us we can, then the post CU guys would be in uproar. Far better to not really tell us anything positive and just wait unti, the change happens.

Its nice to level the playing field but I believe that the vets of the profession deserve the high ground on this one....
This is how it should be - allow the pre CU Jedi to keep their pearls but before the FRS comes out, get the new premiums in game. The acquisition of these pearls should not be dependent on the current power of your saber - that would not be fair. It should be difficult but something that both pre and post CU Jedi can get. The results of the new tunes still need to be random to encourage diversity but 4 of these pearls need to be far better than 4 120 / -9 pearls. Everyone has a choice to stick with your current setup or upgrade. For those serious about the FRS, everyone will choose to upgrade to get the chance of a perfect weapon. By doing this we resolve the 2 main issues - saber damage and balance. You get out what you put in. Currently comparing pre to post CU pearl harvesting is like comparing apples to oranges. They need to be questable objects to give some meaning - critter drops is not the way. Just like Ahazi, Farstar also appears to be devoid of life around the Krayt POI - I have better luck hunting for crystals from FS npcs on dantooine TBH.
Cheers,
Im not even a vet jedi I unlocked just before the CU maybe a week or so since they launched it early....to be honest I have no sympathy for the jedi crying about having a crappy saber. My jedi grind was that of passion, I wanted to compete in the FRS, I wanted toplay a template that is fun and not the FOTM...etc.
I did my homework and hunted krayts during the boom, stored up my premiums for when I unlocked. For that I have a decent saber to pvp with today, its not perfect but hey I do well with it. There is no reason why people couldnt have done the same. The amount of krayts that were spawning at that time was kinda unreal, and you could get a pearl almost 1/5 loots.
None the less they deserve a chance to still make a good saber just like any other combat class has a chance to get a high end weapon. Problem is that our saber is pretty much our only "weapon" and if they screw up our pearls then maybe master powers will be FOTM soon...
Im not trying to flame, but the fact that there are two groups of jedi is what is kinda causeing an uproar here. One end you got the pre curb that have near perfect sabers with some post curb that planned for the future. Then thereare the ones that unlocked recently because of all that double xp and such, ones that are quiting because they have no way of getting a decent saber. Its almost like a catch 22 on what the devs should do, I think the stats should stay the same so they dont have to screw with all the pre expansion pearls / crystals. Improving the tuning chances for a perfect tune on premiums couldnt hurt, especially if they are super rare drops or quest items.
Why do BHs get loot drops for ranged weapon components that allow adding as much as 190 points of damage to a ranged weapon and in some cases multiple looted components can be used to up the damage of the weapon to well over 1000 max damage?
Then ask yourself, "Why are premium pearls not dropping and why do jedi have to tunepearls/crystals for a random result when BHs loot weapon components with 170-190 max damage additions?"
What is the purpose of this imbalance?

It's not as if any decision they make is of earthshattering importance. It's a game for chrissakes. They should just make a decision, announce it and stick to it. I mean, everyone else is expected in business is expcted to be proactive andstick to their word, why should SoE be any different?
As for pearls, why worry about acapped saber when it's relatively much easier and cheaper to get a double capped gun that does 30% more damage which can then be speed sliced and pupped?
