Agree.

With 32 profession, it not only required time, it required quite a bit of credits for resources/ weapons/ etc.....

At least then you were forced to explore some of this game's content before you start your jedi grind. Now, all you have to do is become FS and grind your way to jedi. I've had new players ask me what's the fastest way to jedi; and w/ good reason too. Who doesn't want a second slot? And who wouldn't mind going jedi now?

You were at least forced to explore the game's different professions, all you need now is MBH, Master X combat profession, 4000 CM and you're good on capping XP on multiple weapons saving many trips.

I have to point out that based on somebody who started in December '03, I too did SOME of the Hologrind. To be specific:

  • Holo 1: Teras Kasi - Took me as a casual player 3 play sessions (Call it 7 hours)
  • Holo 2: Merchant - Longest one of the bunch - Took me 8 days. Amazing what selling ultra cheap goods did for rapid business. Also, having a Guild that entered my shop constantly paying the 1cpu repeatedly also helped.
  • Holo 3: Weaponsmith - Took me all of 3 days of constant manufacturing.

At that point, I stopped because I found I enjoyed the WS profession. Never bothered grinding another thing out because of that. But the point IS, look at the minimal time investment - That was a LONG grind? I quite literally after I dropped WS ground out Swordsman in another 3 days. Worst case scenario my 4th Holo would have been CH, BH or Ranger - And seriously, those weren't that long a grind either.

THEN the Village came out. Even WITH my free unlocks, I as a casual player didn't manage to get through the Village until the day before the CU. (April 23, 2005) And then again, AS a casual player - I still (Despite Double XP) am not quite Fully Temped. I suppose I COULD have AFKed the Trails and used the Respec upping..

Having experienced both, I rather preferred the Holo system within the Pre CU environment - I fully believe had I not paused to be a WS, i would have been a Jedi LONG befor the CU came.

And you got lucky that you had all the guild come and look at your shop, mastering merchant almost took me a month and took some longer, you also forgot to point out that you needed credits to even get to craft, not sure how the prices of resources are on your server but back then it was crazy on mine, still is even for crappy res, and not sure if you meant it took you 7 hours to master tkm if it did then you are a hardcore casul gamer also forgot to mention that you needed to teach skills since you had the app points too and that took a long arse time too lol i had to keep marksman 0001 during a lot of my holo grinding. Holo grinding was not fun at all most people quit after the 10th prof because they either couldnt afford to go on or just got way too bored. Like you said dude, even after you tried WS you found that you enjoyed that prof and stuck with it, that also happened a lot for people who did holo grind which would also make for less jedi

I can say from that that f your not on your toes a BH should be able to kill a jedi cos its his/her job. All of their kit weapons and knowledge leads to killing jedi.

However - against a Krayt, a Rancor or a Garax they should suck.

What I dislike now though are these stalemate battles that seem to last for ages. Club Club CLub Club CLub - over and over and over.

I would like a stalemate option so you cant fight someone for more than ten minutes.

People don't hate jedi anymore than thet hate anything uber. People hate uber nations, they hate uber has-been nations. They just hate anything uber unless they are it.

(apart from me that is)

iob

It was Jango, and Jango was about to be wasted by Obi-Wan until Boba shot those blasters from the Slave ship. SOE made it the BHs job, not the Star Wars universe. In Star Wars they hunted smugglers and criminals.

And your right, people just love to hate what they are not or cannot become/have.

In all seriousness, I see in almost every Forum calls for Jedi to either be removed utterly from the game, or for our numbers to be somehow lessened to an "acceptable" level.

So, I really want to ask the lurkers reading the Jedi boards 2 questions - YOU know you're there, WE know you're there -

  1. Why do you hate us so much? And remember, I do NOT mean the players, I mean the class itself.

  2. How would you reduce the numbers of Jedi in game and keep it fair to all involved?

Please attempt to keep it flame free, as I want to see if it's merely an immersion factor, a power factor, or something else entirely. And to see how the monumental task of "weeding" us out would be accomplished in your minds.

Because the induction of a class that was promised to be stronger than the other classes, undoubtly was the reason 80% players migrated to the Jedi Grind. And PvP was total FUBARed from that point on. Most of our GCW players have left for BF2 or some other game. Jedi are to be removed or made a normal starting profession. It's digusting how many sabers we see on the battlefield.

thats easy! #1 they hate us cause there either too stupid or lazy or both to figure jedi can be obtained in a matter of a few months.. hmm lets see lets give 2 weeks to grind a new toon and do all the get glowey crap.. yes can be done faster i know but lets give extra time not everyone is a vet. then your 18 weeks of SOE content(crap village quests) drive here go there or drive there and kill them all or whatever ( i did combat prowess 4444 reflexes 44xx so all i did was drive around or wait around and killstuff) now with current spin groups id say the drive to the village over time would be alot longer than the xp grind. but the clone express would cut that in half! so id say on average with the exit quest and padi trials you can be a jedi in between 20 to 24 weeks for a kinda hard core gamer. 24 to 32 for less motivated. and never for most noobs who want it given to them!.... its easy as it is and boring but im sure they will hate us till its an out of the box prof

as for number 2 thats even more easy! just let soe continue to say "working as intended" and a few more really good nerfs and never bring back premie drops and all the jedi will vanish forever after the the novelty wears out! and it seems like a broken dead end!

Do you realize that 24 weeks is not "a few months"

Why I should think that obvious my naive friend. It is plain that there are far too many Jedi in the game. Also, it seems to be everyone's main goal in the game. EVERYONE wants to bea Jedi. And the amount of Jedi will keep on increasing until the vast majority of the servers ARE Jedi. What fun would that be? I do not aim to unlock Jedi. I really would like it if the game were more like the movies. Everything else with the game is fine. I don't understand how anyone couldn't see the problem with Jedi! It's obvious! I DO wish that Jedi would be removed. And yes I know that it is a valuable asset to the franchise. But if you're only playing to unlock Jedi, then you shouldn't be playing anyway. Is this really accurate to the movies and EU? Many Jedi are around and they all hang out in Theed. WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? None! And alsoall the Jedialways seem to be PvPing against each other all the time inTheed.Thatisn't accurate either.

Jedi has phucked up this game so badly. So in my closing statement, I repeat my main points:

1.) There are too many Jedi in the game. If they don't remove them they should at least make it harder to get.

2.) It seems that unlocking Jedi is everyone's main goal in the game.

3.) All the Jedi are always PvPing against each other, usually in Theed.

Now those are my main pet peeves with Jedi. You asked, you got an answer. Take those glowsticks of yours and shove em up your @$$es if you don't like it.

Okay this is my third shot at a post I hope it goes up this time...

This is stupid. All the posts so far are calling all us Jedi haters "stupid" and "immature" and "lazy".

This is not true. I wanted to play SWG to be a smuggler so, by golly I'll be a smuggler!

Let me try this question:

Why did you GO Jedi in the first place?

I unlock thursday because I'm on my last fs quest and it's one of those "takes 3 days" kind of things... and to be honest even I think there are WAY to many jedi, there needs to be less by a lot, I would give up all the work i did to get the xp for the unlock if they would just get rid of jedi... maybe keep 5 or 6 but not have any more than that... the number of jedi in this game is ridiculous for this time period, I love playing games where I'm a jedi or you see a jedi but not like this... not when it's not in the right timeframe... the only reason I'm becoming jedi is because I know if I don't someday soon (when the new frs comes out) jedi will be more than 1.5 people, theyll be closer to at least 3, and if I'm not a jedi I won't be able to fight one of these one on one... it takes away from my gaming if I can't compete... and that's what would happen... I don't know how SOE could fairly take away jedi now... not without losing thousands of customers... not after they let it go so far... well... I could go on, however I won't thanks for reading.

timeframe is illrealanvent in this game they would have to recode 99% of the game to make it match the time frame not just jedi, they through time frame out the window long ago time frame never was and never will be a vaild argument about the amount of jedi.

This game is suppose to be at least pre episode IV in a very basic breif summary, IV luke leaves tat for the first time in his life, finds out about the force and that he can be a jedi, joins the rebels, goes to the death star where obiwan is killed rescues leia, goes on to blow up the death star.

Now, due to timeline why is luke at the masi temple in a rebel pilots suit, the last part of the rebel theme park? shouldnt be there lets nerf him !!

Due to the time line why is there wreakage of the death star ? according to the timeline it does not even exsist and luke has never seen an x-wing let alone blown up the as yet non exsitant death star.

Due to the timeline why is there a mission to go luke for obiwan and luke on tat at fort tusken where it turns out obiwan is dead? First of they have not meet yet according to the time line and obiwan does not die until episode 4 many years from the supposed game timeline.

The point being time line is long gone look around the game there are cases of things being way out of wack according to the timeline there was no attempt from the begining to maintain timeline.

Are there to many jedi in the game ? yes way to many not cause of a timeline but because everyone and his sister not to mention his sister's dog should not be a jedi. On the other hand jedi is so weak now it really makes no differance we go out on my server we do base raids and pvp a few times a week the planets go back and forth and life goes on. Not one moment of all this do i feel like I grinded an elite class, I feel like I grinded a waste of time with all the nerf bats they hit jedi with.

I am not like these imature adults or the children that play and wanna "pwn" people nor do I care weither or not people think i am uber. The simple fact is SOE made it easy to get there, there most recent attempt at population control is to make us easy to kill and for anyone that did not get pre cu pearls we can be out damaged by anyone who just started the game 5 days ago and every major patch one or two more jedi skills get nerfed into uselessness.

Dont worry jedi will be gone soon because people will be leaving the game after a week or two of constant dieing with the FRS nowhere in sight.

When I first started this game, back at the turn of the CU, I read-on what must have been a horribly outdated website-that getting Jedi in SWG was very rare and completely random. I thought, wow how cool it would be to log in one day and discover that you had won the lottery. But since there were so many people playing I never really thought it would happen to me. A few weeks later I found out that there is a set list of things to do that will make you Jedi. And it is this very aspect that ruined it for me. It means that anyone who visits certain POIs, gets a certain number of content badges, and masters a profession has the chance to join the elite. And, of course, what does most everyone want but to be a spectacle, for others to look at them with envy. Within a month or two after CU I began to notice Jedi everywhere. There were a few in my hunting groups that behaved like I always thought these honorable knights should. But the rest-running around bare-chested or wearing two-tone formal skirts, killing lvl 2 npc's at the MO, hanging out in Theed like bored thugs-really upset me. Star Wars A New Hope was the 1st movie I saw. I grew up thinking how much our own society needed Jedi, arch-heroes who valued honor and self-sacrifice above all else. So I refused to go Jedi with any of my toons. I played on many servers, trying out all the combat professions. Then I joined a guild with a really great leader, someone I thought was the archetypal Jedi. He was kind, a good teacher, brave in the face of overwhelming pvp odds. I wanted to be like him. So I did the Warren and BAM, I got glowy. I started the Village on the 4th phase, the invasion. And there were so many people there that they instantly decimated the Sith spawn as soon as they appeared. All those people, more Jedi than there ever were in the Old Republic, ruined it for me. It wasn't anything special to get that status. All it took was extra grind time. After my third unlock at the Village I decided it was much more special and unique to be a "normal" character. Sorry this was such a long post, but wanted to get this off my chest. As for your question, I don't really hate Jedi. But I certainly don't look at them with pride-there areexceptions here; there are a few that really deserve the title Knight...and to those people, you know who you are, /bow.
