Just a poll, let's say this was a game with an alpha class (like Jedi) very similar, still sci fi ish, the cities and game play and crafting the same. Except every Star Wars reference and character replaced with non Star Wars.

I know I wouldn't have stayed this long, and the sad thing is even what little Star Wars feel is left is barely keeping me here since I have nothing to do in game.

I dunno how to answer this one..its a very good question to ponder. I am a hard core Star Wars fan..I wasn't around for the actual opening in theatres but I am a diehard fan none the less and when I heard of a SW MMORPG I was estatic..My bf got the game for me on my birthday when it came out but alas we couldn't play it till after CU because of our computer specs. So it was the -name- of star wars that initially hooked me..it was great in the beginning being a new player and visiting the different poi's it was like I was actually in the universe but then as the months passed I saw soe true face and its started to decline. I still very much enjoy the game but I think mostly due to the friends I have made along the way and the reluctance to leave them behind.

Before SWG I played on Everquest..I've played Diablo as well but nothing compares to SWG..the graphics are increadible..I love the new cloning system as opposed to Corpse runs of Evercrack..the Crafting/player economy are by far one of the best things I've found as Everquest crafting leaves very much to be desired..so I don't know..I think I would still play it at least for a little while

This is absolutely not the case.

There is almost as much out there in SWG as there is in everquest, even though it has been out far less time.

A long time ago people used to actually go out and DO things in the game. Now that people have been grinding for so long, the community in general has forgotten that there is a whole complete game out there.

It's so bad that the many players don't even know what that little I abovesome NPCs heads means.

Just because the content isn't in your face, or offers an uber awsome reward, doesn't mean it's not there.

No.

The LaserSword Wielder class and Mystic Powers class are unbalanced compared to the rest of the classes, there are many bugs regarding crafters, merchants are half a waste of points, the landscape is clogged with derelict buildings, every publish is seriously bugged despite the fact that paying player-testers find them prior to going Live and I've lost faith in most of the Development Team and feel the ones that really care are hampered by suits higher up the food chain.

I will not play any other SOE game after what I've experienced here and discourage others from doing so.

No decay + uber loot = /spit on crafters

Fix the economy and give crafters their $$$ worth... give us real revamp.

Remember... to Cancel you have to go to Register Expansion in the Launchpad.

Hard question. The fact that there is no other game like SWG, completely open ended, with ground and space. The ability to be any profession you want to be. There are some great features in this game.

I guess if I look at other types of games that have had Star Wars competition (namely space sims). I enjoyed Freespace and Wing Commander games as much as I enjoyed X-wing type games. So, looking at it that way, yeah, I would probably still play SWG even without the Star Wars name. If you look at Anarchy Online (a MMO simular to SWG, however no space, and the ground is more like EQ with guns), and it is not very popular at all, most people in the US probably have never even heard of it.

yea....so think about how great this game would have been if it lived up to its full potential .

Yes, I would still play because as far as I know no other MMORPG gives you the freedom that SWG does. In every other game if you don't like the way your template is going its time to create a new char and you cant take advantage of your old char's standing with factions or credits (without a tiresome workaround with guildies if you have a guild). Despite it's flaws this freedom to do what I like when I want to and to go where I want to within the world is what keeps me here and enjoying the game, the fact that it's Star Wars style (important word "style" this ISNT actually Starwars) and I get to wave a glowstick around is just a bonus.

Actually as someone who has made many alternate characters on many other games I disagree with you on this one.

Why do you hear so many old school people from say EQ or DAoC that had a couple level 50s or 60s on these forums? (Well you used to, but most of them are gone for better games.)

Because you can transfer plat or credits or what have you to another character easily, you can transfer items and weapons and you can have that character run around as a "bot" and level them up faster than you would be able to start a completely new character in SWG. In fact no other game requires you to grind as long as SWG has you grind.

Have you ever played EQ and tried to get to level 70? I can grind out a cl 80 on SWG in a week..compared to the months grind to get to that level in Everquest. Not to mention that after you get to Level 11 in Everquest you lose experience everytime you die regardless of your class, as well as some races having an experiance penalty imposed upon them. I played for 6 months and my main character on Everquest has only gotten to level 34..I have a friend on there who before I left to play SWG was level 54, I come back just today after 6 months of being away from EQ and see his level is now only 67, 13 levels gained in the 6 months I was gone...I can get 13 levels in SWG in 5 hours of play.

SWG = Grinding is the game. Every other MMO = Grinding is the "trial" and "Work" to enjoy the game.

Plus you can have multiple characters on the same server without having to grind for months or buy another account. You see why now on SWG you can only have one char per server per account, unless you are Jedi. They saw this as a way to make more money.

For me, SWG is sad because thinking of it makes me sick to my stomach and actually makes me dislike Star Wars as a whole more because I relate the crappy experience that lately is SWG so much to the brand: Star Wars. I don't buy as much Star Wars merchandise that is for sure.

About the only thing that makes me happy is watching the Original Trilogy over again once in awhile.
