Sabers are great when they are close to perfect. Too bad many of us don't HAVE Perfect.
You pick and choose situations where a saber can be shown to be just as good. You keep picking Power Attack to base damage on, even though it has a 6 second cycle time. Then you pick critical shot which has a lower multiplier but can be spammed faster. Compare with a rifle and Advanced Sniper shot. Then show what damage a 400 min 500 max saber can do against a PvP opponet wearing 8100 Energy Armor with a 75% Armor Break slice while running COB. Like most other things in this game you can pick and choose sistuations to show most anything. In the overall game new Jedi are gimped with low end sabers.
Funniest one is where you compared PvP damage to a rifle that I wouldnt use as a beating stick. Any true PvP rifleman will have a rifle around 500 min 1183 max 82 SAC, probably with a speed/critical slice. He can then choose from a SAC or Damage PuP to suit the situation. Jedi get what the sabers say and that is it.
My saber is over 600 min and 700 max so I have little to gain from the Pearls being fixed, but I'm not going to come on the forums and tell other Jedi that they don't need them anyway. With that saber against most normal mobs in game, ie lvl 78-82 a rifleman with a good quality rifle can do just as much damage as me.
Uhhh huhhhhh...

But I think you are forgetting that a lightsaber is supposed to be strong enough to cut someone in half in one hit. I realize that wouldnt be fair to other players, but uhm....thats what lightsabers do! They shouldnt be balanced with a capped pistol! They should be able to kill a person in a matter of seconds with little effort, which is extremely far from the truth.
you should be comparing saber throw with critical instead of powerhit with critical......they both have no warmup and both have the same multiplier.....power hit is horrendously limited as to use in actual combat.....your choice of using powerhit leaves the saber with around a 22% bonus based on the special. speaking as someone who has a near perfect saber, the reason people don't "understand" your theory is that it's simply not true, in addition to the fact that some ranged weapons have much higher max damage, better speed, and comparable min damage, with a much lower sac, they also have the advantage of range.....the great equalizer is valor and saber block.....now, when you look at melee weapons, you see how gimped sabers really are.....remember, ranged fighters are considerably weaker in regards to damage than melee fighters.....melee fighters have a huge advantage weaponwise, not to mention with a line from swordsman, armor break, which Jedi can have no resistance to due to us not being able to wear armor and thus being unable to have it AB sliced.

Why did you compare adv. crit shot to power attack? Why these attacks. What are the stats behind these attacks (ie are the modifiers the same?). I understand the stats behind power attack, but i have never played a pistoleer so I am ignorant of their specials. You ask everyone for the stats on their guns but lets get it straight first what excatly you are testing.
ok i picked adv critical as it is one of the highest damage multiplyer ranged specials that can be viable used in a pvp contest
for comparison saber power attack imp 2.5x mod
adv critical mod 1.9x
adv leg shot (carbineer) 1.9x
adv sniper shot (rifle) 3.4x BUT nasty warmup etc
imp body shot (pistols) 1.5x
imp saber head hit - 1.8x
adv saber throw - 1.9x
i piscked critical as its a BH special and its mods are typical of the high end of ranged multipliers
In addition, I have spoken to many of the young jedi in my guild and a 400-500 damage saber is more than "average" to them. Many of them have no crystals or pearls with damage over 50-60 and many use less than a 4 gen because the FC and SAC are too high for them.
Correct - 500 max dam saber needs 4 perals/crystals at about 60-70 dam i think
244 on a good hilt +60x4 is 484
i wasnt comparing FC at all here just talking damage which is what most people moan about
Correct but it is quite a bit slower than firing adv crit shot. I'm not sure about the exact times but i'd bet you could fire off two adv crit shots(with just mbh) before or soon after the completion of one power hit.
you couldnt fire 2 off but you could alternate specials - again that comes down to speeds which i havnt adressed here as there is so much that can modify them. also you can power attack then follow it up with head hit - alternating specials plays havoc with any dsort of speed calc

saber + armor break = the best weapon against high end mobs, hands down, nothing can come close
except a 5-15 mil PH (orany lvl 54 melee weapon you have mastery with)+ armor break weilded by a swordstack which makes a saber laughable

Too many of you got full template with less than a week grind using multiple respecs. Pre-respec full template Jedi lost their rank (well was rank 0 because of what i think was a stupid frs) and spent a lot more efforts to reach that stage. Having a better saber is a minimum to make it even.
I think the previous poster was correct. Why are you comparing Power Attack and Critical Shot? Power attack has a warm-up and a larger damage modifier, but is STILL coming close to the same as a non-jedi weapon. Compare saber throw and critical shot
400-500 (125 element) saber vs: 500-1100 Advanced Laser Rifle
Hitting at min with saber throw: 400 x1.9 = 760 +125 element = 885
Hitting at min with critical shot: 960
Hitting at max with throw: 950 +125 = 1075
Hitting at max with crit shot: 2090
Looks to me that an unsliced, unpupped ALR destroys an average lightsaber, and does it from potentially 80 meters away. For fun, lets compare to a high-level saber.
Saber 600-700 (200 elemental)
Min w/throw: 1340
Max w/throw: 1530
That looks better and is probably about where the high-end average of lightsabers should be. Why only the average? Because other weapons have the capacity to be sliced and powerupped pushing their damage ranges even higher.
A low-average saber would should be 500-600.
And incredible saber should be 650-750.
