Thread: Why has the Jedi profession come to this point!?
Message Edited by Uneshoof on 09-26-2005 03:32 AM
Sadly I have to admit in the harder dungones and the boss mobs id much rather play a mbh mr cm 4000 then any combo I have tryed on the jedi.
Kill faster way less down time can use 2 pools of points for specials way higher damage and get this MD takes more damage then my 5k kenetic recom armour does
.
to make money its mbh mr cm 4000 way better then jedi
to hunt day in and day out its mbh mr cm 4000
to group mbh mr cm 4000
to have fun and not be forced to pvp its mbh mr cm 4000
other then a few nice mage like skills for graphics their is no longer any reason to play jedi.

I would argue that the producers of this game care too much about whatplayers think they want. Most players have no idea what they want. Thats why the majority of complaints on these forums are vague cries of "WHY DONT TEH DEVZ FIX US?!". I hope one day the producers have a vision for what the game is and work towards that vision.Relying on the whines and cries of players that can't even formulate what it is exactly they are upset about hasn't been making the game better.

we were promised and told so many things since launch. countless things. to many to list here. devs dont give a f**k. they tell us something we go cool and then the act like it was never talked about.
one thing i have learned in the last years is
DONT TRUST THE DEVS.
they play with us.
whats left of the swg i started in?
my char name is the only thing they didnt touch.......yet
I fully agree. People make decisions on their own when they have no idea how it'd effect everything else... or may not even care how it'd effect everything else. There always seem to be 2 kinds of people, the people who accept situations, and adapt to them, becoming better, and the others who refuse to accept what their givenand demand change. There needs to be a balancebetween those 2, so things can be balanced without pushing the game to the point where it's become so dumbed down where winning the game is simply the push of a single button.
fixes
1. jedi only factions
2. if norms want into the battles they must go Elite SF and earn extra defenses or offense for doing so
3. cloner sickness(not sure how this would work) would keep u out of battle for short time..zerging is lame and im guilty too
4. Guardian build-changes to template would come via the frs-this would make everyone the same untill u chose your path make several paths within the FRS- and not all skills would be Pvp aquired for a jedi must train...
5. pve and pvp offenses and defenses fixed
6. heal timers-if i have no mind what does it matter if i heal every second?? makes loads of sense to me what do i have the purple bar for? for looks..oh i remember its for force armor lol
7. when the purple bar ment the life of ur jedi-means squat now
8. force armor still not as good as pre cu fix it
9. force run needs increased
10. roots are lame-i actually enjoyed chasing fr3 jedi around cause i had it too added to my enjoyment and 9 times outa 10 it lead to and abush by 20 overts vs 3 of us..was good times not knowing what u were gettin into this is called tactics OMG post cu has little its he who brings the most overts,,,Blah
11. Stop Callin the Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahbulance everytime u dont know how to play or die to another player- get better or change build ask for help- i allways do some worked for me others didnt till i realized im not playin the AI
12. this goes with 11-ever think the person behind the keyboard is better than u? didnt thinkso kthkbye
13.More Dev input to us and allow feedback both ways from vet players directly to the devs and vise versa for each server..no offense to the corrs but you dont play on my server and i dont on yours and we all may play the same game but not all servers are the same,,,just a thought i would gladly offer some input and help i want this game to live and get better by non nerfs and adding the Fun Factor again
14. Bh- well Xp loss dont work-perma didnt either- if im made stronger then i say make it based on each level a bh can bring a max of 4 friends and so can the jedi..and when locked in battle no outside help this includes attacks..the bh tef negates all pvp status cept the 2 groups..20 man ganks of old are gone..i would give anything to be strong again..this sytem dont work needs alot of change to accomodate all..not sure there is an easy fix but current system blows...and i know both sides of it..i hate nothing more than standing around watchin my guildies battle 2 bh's and i cant do squat but offer moral support..that to me is stupid and the old system with mods and fixes would serve better...
15. Make all Jedi stuff craftable by the jedi-this would include robes-color crystals-damage crystals and hilts-this would make me so happy-would stop the pre cu is stronger so nerf em post cause i cant loot pearls-everyone deserves a fair shake and loot isnt it...what happend to crafting? what would u give to be able to do that..Biggest want list for me is this...and i hate crafting but i hate loot only stuff its one sided to those that can play for 15 hours vs those like me who max less than 20 hours a week..and allow some Jedi type armors helms ala KOTOR..if we can have hk in a upcomin expansion we can get the good stuff from it...
sorry for edits spellin and auto posting 4 the win

wow,
this is a total eye opener for me. I wanted to be a Jedi in the worst way, but now that i see they're not all they're cracked up to be, and about as common as Dwarf Nuna's outside Tatooine, it really isn't all that appealing anymore....
Now I have no idea what i want to do, heh. Oh well, at least thats one problem taken care of.
I don't know, maybe you could try one of the other THIRTY-FIVE professions in the game?
The very first encounter with Star Wars: Galaxies was back in 2002 when Computer Gaming World ran a concept article on it. My big interest? Becoming a part of the Star Wars Universe between episodes IV and V in a massively-multiplayer community.
So many ways to progress from just some no-name bum to a character known throughout the galaxy. All my friends had different ideas: smuggler, ranger, commando, Teras Kasi, weaponsmith, creature handler, combat medic, etc, etc. I wanted to be a bounty hunter. Sure, the path of the Force was appealing, but we were sure that the journey would be long, arduous, and frought with the danger of constant attacksfrom assassins and legendary characters such as Darth Vader. To be perfectly honest, I didn't even think about the power a Jedi might have, I was more interested in my assumption that they would be so rare I didn't even have a chance of unlocking one. Hell, at the very least I assumed enlightenment would include participating in player events, success in the Empire or Alliance, helping new players, and not getting in trouble with CSRs... not something as pointless as grinding XP. In that aspect, not even the earliest Jedi lived up to my expectations.
The real shocker for me is that utter lack of attention people have for non-Jedi professions. People look at grinding Jedi as some sort of way to win the game, when this is anything but the truth for a MMORPG. Believe it or not, but there is more content in this game than running a macro on feral wookies, then "pwning noobs" when you're done.
Then again, maybe that's an over-statement of the truth. So much development timehas beenunjustly focused on Jedi or interaction with Jedi it's ridiculous. I can't help but think of how many different things might have been introduced by now, more thantwo years since release; Smugglers that smuggled, player-contracted missions and bounties, more in-depth quests, capital ships, player designed weaponry, incentives to role play, a Galatic Civil War that actually meant something. Hell, the poor rangers can't even get a revamp now without people flipping out about what it might mean for force cloak.
Of all the games that have ever been thought of, SWG probably had the most potential. The fact that people can't even wrap their heads around something other than grinding a single class, a mere speck on the back-drop of what this game could have been, is just heart-breaking.

The sad truth behind the RPG like gaming systems in MMOs is their inability to allow a players skill to show through in fights. the oridionals poster's description of his jedi's death is uaually what happens in games like unreal tournament or other FPS. The game machanics are fluid enough to allow a smart player to rip through a whole force if the circumstances stack their way. The RPG game like machanics dont do that. RPG machanics origional intention was to prevent players from stepping off the beaten story path and accessing sections of the game they wern't sopposed to be at yet. that system utterly bits for player vs player combat and is something MMO developers are starting to realize the hard way.

We see Obi-Wan taking on a room full of droids and fighting Grievous, who has 4 sabers, all at the same time, and winning. Qui-Gon's saber being able to eat through a solid steel door.Jedi can sense "disturbances in the force" and know before-hand ifanything is out of the ordinary, or if they are about to be attacked.Obi-Wanquestioning and hunting Jango Fett, not the other way around. Boba Fett hunting Han Solo, not Luke Skywalker.Even most of the nameless Jedi you see in the big battle scenes can defend themselves against a very large army firing at them.
These are just a few examples. I could think of alot more if I really wanted to.
What went wrong in this game?

I don't think so. I had a freakish event where i killed 3 regulars, 4 other jedi, then 2 of the of the same jedi reviving themselves by myself within 5 minutes before i was taken down.
