I'm confused. So should a MLS Jedi use vegasparsene and not thundercloud? Maybe I should start drinking.
you and me both...but this issue has been brought up before without any DEV comment....

So is it a true statement that the ranged defense branch in the Defender tree (x/4/x/x) is pointless?
Man, my head is spinning, but I think that unless you hold a gun, it is.
well the ranged def mods +90 in it are not any use to a saber wielding jedi - BUT the armour mods in it most definatnly are - however based on our new understanding the line should now only be held if your going Mdefender... dabbling in this line is rather useless now
Bahahaha, I just thought of something....all those people who were choosing the Ranged Defense tree over the Melee Defense tree got screwed and didn't even know it.
Why do I get the feeling Devs are reading that post in the Chef forum saying "ohhhhhh, so that's how it works".
Nice research guys. Looks like I need to find myself a crate of Veg.
I do hope they fix this though.

I don't think this has been proved - the tests were only done against a melee attacker from what I read.
So Sheep, in my tortured previous post, do I have this right now?
If so, this is nuts. But it does explain a lot.
Bottom line - we have no ranged defense unless we hold a gun. That's why the devs have put stuff in the .TRE files to take our force powers away (in a future publish) when we do. If we hold a gun, we have no melee defense.
Why? Because we are 100% melee to them, including Master Powers.
Bottom line - We have our melee defense when we do not hold a weapon, when we hold a melee weaponor when we hold our sabers. Plus, Vegesparine is screwed up and lasts until we uequip our sabers or log out.

Yes - you have proved that elshandruu works based on teh weapon you're using, but not the mods from def 0400.

pretty much right - except in your phrasing
when you have a melee weapon equipped tyour melee def mod covers you for all attacks
the same is true for a ranged weapons and ranged defence
its not that a melee weapon means you have 0 ranged defence
just that your ranged def doesnt apply when holding a melee weaon and vice versa
example
400 melee def and 100 ranged def
hold a saber youll take little damage from anything (ranged or melee)
hold a pistol and anything (ranged or mellee will pummel you)

Actually that was shown in the test with no food taken and switching weapons
Any ranged defense mods are useless to a saber Jedi at this time. however I do not believe this is intended, otherwise they would have just removed ranged defense from melee professions.
Look for this to be fixed in some way down the line.
