you've heard a rumor that has spiralled out of control.

if it were true, business ethics dictate that they (soe / LA publicly release this information to increase ther net worth.

and lucAsarts do not approve every aspect. they do hava onboard consultant that oversee's things, but SOE have free reign over the majority of things in swg.

besides, if it were true, lucasarts would either

a) have to recode the entire game from scratch including the basic game engine

b) buy the game from SOE which wouldnt be cheap

add the fact, that lucasarts have no experience coding/designing in the mmorpg sector and have yet to release a good game.....

my thing is, why is SOE so convinced that this game is so insanely difficult? Why? its not. not even close. but they do need SOE out of there...

Simple answer, their target market since the CU is 11-17 kids. This demographic is well documented to have a short attention span. They also want instant satisfaction and have no concept of work = reward.

Of course the game is MUCH easier than at launch. We didnt have the benefits of a guild to give us a house, 1 million starter credits, a barc speeder we can sell for 5 million credits, a vehicle from a quest, heck vehicles at all or mounts, easy access to tons of crafted goods, shuttles located near every single POI or anywhere else you need to go, forums full of walk-through guides for every possible quest, game is much safer as there arent those rings of death mobs outside cities like before, food is way better than from launch, etc

Why else do you think World of Warcraft is so successful ? They made that game so easy and everyone can jump right in and kick some but right away.

SOE will continue to dumb this game down to make their new target market happy. And the vets who dreamed of playing in a star wars universe for years will continue to leave in disgust

Sandsifter is correct. The target audience seems to now be 11-17 year olds leaving us older players in the lurch. Those of us who saw the Episode 4 in theaters (the first time around) will probably not find what we are looking for here anymore. Though I'm not sure how they came up with that... I'm pretty sure I can afford more than most teenagers and yet noone will make a game for someone like me (well past 21... lol). I'd pay more if it actually worked.

Yes exactly right! Nearly all the newer MMORPG's are the same, dumbed down for a younger and less patient player. This isnt by choice guys its about survival, SWG has to adapt and attract these players or basically die.

Now before some player who is an SOE brown nose starts there defence of SOE consider the rumors that have flying through the forums concerning major changes to the game, such as no melee professions & no grinding. While the advert has stated that there will be a revamp of the first 30 levels, this would tie-in with the rumors that have been circulating.
I do believe that Lucas arts will make an annoucement shortly concerning a take over of the game by them. This is something that has been circulating in the games press for sometime. If this does happen then it will be the end of SOE's involvement. This is something that I would welcome.
As for the saddo brown noses who have posted there usual SOE are great crap, well guys wake up & smell the coffee SOE may shortly be history in the game. You're in denial of this information stop deluding yourself. SWG has major changes coming to it hopefully for the better! I will not reply to any post on this thread from those who support SOE & claim the starter kit is a hoax. The cat is out of the bag SWG is a getting a reboot for the better!

Zara, I agree they are dumbing it for their own survival. I suppose that even double the current cost there would not be enough older players who want a good game to make up for the throngs of kids who only care about instant gratification.

Let me od some clarification.

Lucas Arts will be taking over the game that is the reason for the Starter Kit.

SOE would not know until November 22nd they got the boot. But, reason why Press is saying they are 400 Game Develoers some which you may know not mentionigng names, 1/4 of them were my boss at one time or another. Lucas has 50-100 servers. Is SOE getting the boot more than likely, yes.

That is why SOE nor Tiggs and Amazon ccannot listen to SOE since it is a Lucas Arts game now. Lucas Arts own everything in this game from Source Code and all the trademark and copyrights.

This game was made by Lucas Arts/Activision. Lucas Arts only problem they did not have servers. SOE job was to run servers and keepthe bugs fixed. And, add cntent upon approval. They did breach of contract multiple times. It is on those grounds SWG will finally come home where it belongs in Lucas Arts. And, finally have this game fixed.

If this is true I might be apt to stick around a while longer then I originally planned. I was hoping LA would see the crap that SOE has turned this game into. Maybe we'll see some expansions that make since like Hoth or something more with the timeline. Heck since the timeline is basically out the window it's more like SW but in a different dimension. I planned on giving SWG another year and then see where the games at so theres a chance it'll be in a good place with all the bugs fixed and all the classes gettting some much needed lovin.

Newsflash: LucasArts doesn't develop games anymore.

I don't think they've internally developed a game since Jedi Knight: DF2, but wouldn't be surprised if there'sbeen one or two releases. Bottom line is, they farm out their development work now (certainly on the MMO-scale), and it's up to LA to decide how short or long of a leash they want to keep theirsoftware vendorsat.

For this reason it's real unlikely that a company (SOE) so entrenched in the ongoing operations of a game (SWG) would be dropped cold turkey. If LA is really unhappy about the game's performance, you're more likely to see core changes in the relationship (tighter content control, management replacements, etc.).

Good news is DDO is coming early next year and I highly doubt it'll follow suit with the dumbing down line of thinking. Granted its not Star Wars, I prefer scifi vs. trolls and such but at this point I'll take any in depth, engaging game.
