Thread: How would you react or what would you think if they villiage was disabled?

The only real issue I have with the village is this: how could a bunch of Force Sensitive tree huggers and an Old Man you know nothing about set you on your way to the Padawan Trials and Jedi-hood? This makes no sense. I can see how the villagers can enhance your abilities (as they do now) for your character, but what makes the knowledge they give to you anything related to Jedi? Not at any point in the village are you talk anything Jedi-related. Not even the Old Man teaches you anything Jedi-related. It is basically, "oh you're Force Sensitive now, here's a Lightsaber, figure out Jedi for yourself."
It doesn't even make sense that your NPC trainers are some random various skill trainers throughout the Galaxy. The whole thing should have really revolved around a Jedi NPC from the Old Republic that is in hiding and sees your potential. Ah well, SWG2.
It makes as much sense and mastering proffessions to get your lightsaber.
What did mastering chef teach about the force?
What did mastering dancer teach you about the force?
What did mastering bounty hunter teach you about the force?

You were your own worse enemy then.
I unlocked on my 11th profession mastery (see my sig) and most of them were not too harsh, although Armorsmith was a killer both financially and mentally.
I wouldn't have bothered grinding 30 professions though, that's for sure. No offence but more fool you for getting that sucked in to do it. It should've been patently obvious at the time how destructive the hologrind was, and that there was no way it was going to remain as it was. People walking around with Master Armorsmith titles (myself included) with no idea how to make composite armor. It ruined the game for quite some time.
Kudos for getting so many badges, but to be brutally honest if it was to the detriment of your own health or sanity then you really needed to quit long before finishing the 30 professions.
Apparently you misread my post, with the degree of negativity prevalent on these boards I understand why. I am not complaining about my path, just pointing out that for some of us we wanted it that badly. I am not sure if your eluding to unlocking on the 11th is a boast or what, but the relevance isn't clear. Many others I knew unlocked on 31 and even 32, some got it on 5, the point I was trying to make was in reference to the badges. Maybe you should have only read my last paragraph, but my sanity and detriment were not in jeopardy over this game, it was 2 years in and the grind snuffed out my fire, nothing else. I usually read people's posts twice over to thin my chances of misconception or emotion, I could easily take your answer as a flame, but I know how words are when they are read versus heard.
SpaceSnail wrote:What I think would be cool but probably could never be implemented, is if everyone once they've finished their steps to unlocking FS they could learn some from the village but it really relied on other Jedi, basically once you unlock your FS There a a handful of jedi who are able to sense this in you, not all jedi maybe 10 who are active, and they have to guide you from there, this also brings about the mentoring system, but don't actually let the jedi choose who they want, have it randomly pre assigned. But preassign a handful of jedi to each new person who unlocks. What makes this interesting is you make jedi able to advance further by instructing a padawan which would make them seek out these FS people in order to advance up the chain
This also adds ALOT more content to the game considering if your IMP and get a rebel padawan you can try to turn him, or if you are reb and get an IMP padawan you can try to bring him out of the dark
I think that's a really cool thought, even if I don't think it coudl work, but maybe it could
You get a bonus for having a padawan etc... meaning you want him on your faction, but your padawan can always stray from his teachings. Which will give benefits to each no matter what path they choose just different perks depending. Hope this makes sense and I hope some people will at least thing this is a very cool idea.
Roleplayers, casual players and Star Wars fans would love this... unfortunately I don't think the hardcore PvP templater Jedi would. I don't see them taking time from scrounging and vis tactics in order to generate some sort of PvP, to actually mentor a youngling. Many of the players I know or from what I see post here, represent the latter half and I could bet money that the common theme of "Remove Mentoring!" would flood the boards. If it counts, I'm a bit of both and I love the idea, but thats because I'm a Star Wars fan.
the ruining of this game went as follows , in this order in my opinion.
1. pub 9
2. the village
3.cms and ridiculous dot weapons
4.the cu
5. again the nerfing of jedi
6. again cms and ridiculous dots, plus any and all roots snare stasis slowing down of movements etc. i dont mind a knockdown, as long as it cant be trained,
7 timers timers timers timers timers timers timers timers i just dont have time for this.
the cu was suppose to get rid of of ridiculous DOTS, all it really did was give them all to one profession, MCM, a profession i still cannot find anywhere in star wars. i can find medics, i can find docs, but i cant find any disease poison fire paralyzing mad lunatics running around doing what cms do, it just not there. so if were going to play with toons that dont exist in star wars, and now docs heal with magic anyways, can i bring my dwarf paladin in from wow in kik some real arse?

I dont think that would affect many people but total n00bs..
And since thats really their big marketing point...buy game and become jedi..I dont think they could afford to close it off.
Personally, for as "lame" as the holocrons were..it had more randomness and a feeling of not knowing more than the village, and I prefer that method over the viallge quests...
IMHO I have never liked the idea of a "village that makes u a Jedi" but meh what can I do..
I wouldn't be mad if they revamped it AGAIN. (After fixing smuggler, crafters, entertainers, FRS, and the GCW)

What about brand new players to the game now trying to do the village?

Define total "n00bs". Brand new players to the game or those just now trying to do the village? And if your meaning is the latter, it sounds alittle conceded and naive.
I would love to have the "unlocking" mechanic of pre-holo grind. You were still able to get your jedi, but nobody had a clue to get it. it was a total mystery and the very, very, very, few Jedi that appeared were constanlty stared at in awe because they were practiculary unheard of. Now.....its like "oh..jedi. ok. Oh cool, vader is landing!"

oh and he just said village closure, he didnt say you couldnt become a jedi. my toon became a jedi without going to the village once, there wasnt even a village.
its pretty sad seeing level 5 toons running around asking for help to do theme park missions so they can become jedi.
i had one the other day asking me to group and hangout with him til the sith came, i forget what level he was, but he only had master marksman or something silly like that. to become jedi before, it took me lucky number 28 professions mastered to unlock a fs toon.
the village has really screwed up this game for everybody, and has made jedi a lot less meaningful . its practically automatic.

Pre-holo?
There were no Jedi unlocked before the Holocron was inserted into the game..that was the reason they inserted it. They had waited for months for someone to unlock and no one did though a few were close. Close though is a misnomer here because it means they needed to guess which of the 30+ professions they needed to master next without knowing that they needed to master any.
Random systems and mysterious systems suck. They give the players no way of knowing that the system actually works as it should or that something isn't broken and it just frustrates paying customers which is a bad business decision.

the village was a result of the hologrind.
hologrinding was the worst possible thing to happen to this game.
The game today might be very differen't were it not for hologrinding.
As of yet there has been no way found tostop people from trying to getJedi. This means that no matter what system isimplemented, it's only a matter of time before a player will get their Jedi. That is unless a system of random or handpicking of players to get Jedi is implemented. It was stated even before launch that this would not be the system, and I agree with that decision.
The village puts a minimum required time on unlocking Jedi, which the hologrind didn't. A talented hologrinder could probably unlock in a month with the old system. At least the village increases the required time needed to unlock and provides a more interesting and engaging path to do so (not to mention one that doesn't destroy the economy and result in half of players doing mindless orafk grinds).
yeah it has the same bugs, same inbalances but in a less enjoyable setting, and in the old system there was always counters, can you tell me a counter for a stacker with doc in the new system? in the old it would be a rifleman.

i would love a pre patch 9 server, hell id pay 30 bucks a month for that one to be able to actually fight without having to spam a heal every 6 seconds with stims between them, to be able to chose a template pretty freely without having to have atleast doc or cm and so on.
So in essence you would love a server where:
1) The only reasonable armor was Composite
as opposed to post cu where all armor is devided into 3 classes with the same stats? same could have been done while keeping the pre cu system without wow'ing it into a ton of misc grafical annoyances. Armor is the same now, like my armorsmith friend says : the look is just a skin, and in pvp the only valid armor is pretty much either assault or battle both with pretty similar stats.
2) Bounty Hunters had to master two full professions and then were rewarded with no content and broken skills.
As opposed to being able to master a full combat proffession + more and soloing ancients, entire lairs of creatures, healing better than docs pre cu while staying safe inside armor break sliced armor.
3) People could be Gods with a combination of stacked Professions, Doctor buffs, Spice and Composite Armor.
as opposed to my alt being a god by using stacked proffessions, doc buffs, spice, food and armor break sliced adk'd and overpowered healing.
4) Swordsman/Doctor could wipe out armies of Nightsisters and players who weren't melee stackers.
as opposed to my alt again being able to do pretty much the same if it wasnt for the 6 second db timer, tanking 6 players is not much of a problem, soloing lvl96 dark jedi knights on a lvl73 ftw.
5) A Player base in the GcW could be practically soloed to destruction.
still can if you know what youre doing, my guild has 2 slicers who can solo kill pvp deteachment HQ's and do so pretty much every night.
6) Groups were non-existent except as gank squads for PvP
as opposed to leaving the computer frustrated to hell because in order to level im forced to group with other people, even though i just wanted to spend an hour grinding before work or going to bed and i have to spend 30 minutes finding a group, then wait 15 minutes while they all find missions, then another 10 to get everyone to the mission.
7) Carbineer didn't work
Still has borked attacks, scatter shot, full auto area doesnt work all the time, kneecap shot from rifleman is just as good as cripple, a smuggler commando has better crowd control, only gets 1 decent damage shot which is sub par compared to critical or torso from bh, only thing good about carbineer is to use a chargeshot macro to run around while rooted and to go at burstrun speed all the time.
8) Pikeman sucked unless you have a NS mindfire/poison lance... so everyone got one.
Still pretty much sucks, the only line worth anything is the x-x-4-x line, the other good "pike" attack is aoe KD which you get the basic at x-x-x-4 brawler and thats just as good as the imp one, like a friend of mine said : i should go to the pikeman boards and post "the best pikeman template" just because it has no pikeman in it. The pike crowd control warcry, intimidate, and aoe KD can all be gotten and used with a powerhammer or with a junti mace for more damage than any pike weapon, just spend the 42 skillpoints getting 0-0-3-4 swords for better attacks and advanced armor break.
9) Non Pvpers who chose a faction could easily be sucked into PvP if they stumbled too close to the wrong NPC or base.
As opposed to people leaving their alts combatant AFK faction farming to plop down another 200 bases pr planet to control the GCW score, making the smuggler 4-x-x-x useless, except for the faction point reduction, combatants destroying other players items without giving the owner a chance to defend, 80m arms to take down turrets without getting npc aggro or the ability to be attacked by other players.
10) People were complaining on the forums as much as they do now.
People will always whine, the devs should have told the majority of morons who got the old system changed to stf-u from the get go.
I'm sorry but I have been around since the beginning and for me to sit back and think that pre-patch 9 was a bed of roses would make me a hypocrite. There has always been major problems in this game, fixes only reveal other issues that go from minor to major on these forums. I would bet that anyone who ventured over to your pre patch 9 server and played for a few months would come running back to a post CU server after crossing paths with a melee stacking templater with a DOT lance. Some of us haven't forgotten, so we prefer to move on instead of reminiscing on a past that stunk as much as the present.
pre cu is even more unbalanced, and alot less fun than pre cu was. i miss being able to tank without spamming heals, the ability to actually level up solo, watching a jedi fight and going "holy crap this was awesome" as opposed to post cu almost falling asleep.
You seriously think much changed?
Changed enough for you to whine about it.
