Yuck..that was a dark time for this game. The economy was in shambles the players were disgruntled and no one knew from one minute to the next what professions their guild mates would be using it was a horrible system that Raph should be beaten daily for even thinking up.

2) Bounty Hunters had to master two full professions and then were rewarded with no content and broken skills.

As opposed to being able to master a full combat proffession + more and soloing ancients, entire lairs of creatures, healing better than docs pre cu while staying safe inside armor break sliced armor.
3) People could be Gods with a combination of stacked Professions, Doctor buffs, Spice and Composite Armor.

as opposed to my alt being a god by using stacked proffessions, doc buffs, spice, food and armor break sliced adk'd and overpowered healing.
4) Swordsman/Doctor could wipe out armies of Nightsisters and players who weren't melee stackers.

as opposed to my alt again being able to do pretty much the same if it wasnt for the 6 second db timer, tanking 6 players is not much of a problem, soloing lvl96 dark jedi knights on a lvl73 ftw.
5) A Player base in the GcW could be practically soloed to destruction.

still can if you know what youre doing, my guild has 2 slicers who can solo kill pvp deteachment HQ's and do so pretty much every night.
6) Groups were non-existent except as gank squads for PvP

as opposed to leaving the computer frustrated to hell because in order to level im forced to group with other people, even though i just wanted to spend an hour grinding before work or going to bed and i have to spend 30 minutes finding a group, then wait 15 minutes while they all find missions, then another 10 to get everyone to the mission.
7) Carbineer didn't work

Still has borked attacks, scatter shot, full auto area doesnt work all the time, kneecap shot from rifleman is just as good as cripple, a smuggler commando has better crowd control, only gets 1 decent damage shot which is sub par compared to critical or torso from bh, only thing good about carbineer is to use a chargeshot macro to run around while rooted and to go at burstrun speed all the time.

8) Pikeman sucked unless you have a NS mindfire/poison lance... so everyone got one.

Still pretty much sucks, the only line worth anything is the x-x-4-x line, the other good "pike" attack is aoe KD which you get the basic at x-x-x-4 brawler and thats just as good as the imp one, like a friend of mine said : i should go to the pikeman boards and post "the best pikeman template" just because it has no pikeman in it. The pike crowd control warcry, intimidate, and aoe KD can all be gotten and used with a powerhammer or with a junti mace for more damage than any pike weapon, just spend the 42 skillpoints getting 0-0-3-4 swords for better attacks and advanced armor break.

9) Non Pvpers who chose a faction could easily be sucked into PvP if they stumbled too close to the wrong NPC or base.

As opposed to people leaving their alts combatant AFK faction farming to plop down another 200 bases pr planet to control the GCW score, making the smuggler 4-x-x-x useless, except for the faction point reduction, combatants destroying other players items without giving the owner a chance to defend, 80m arms to take down turrets without getting npc aggro or the ability to be attacked by other players.

10) People were complaining on the forums as much as they do now.

People will always whine, the devs should have told the majority of morons who got the old system changed to stf-u from the get go.

I'm sorry but I have been around since the beginning and for me to sit back and think that pre-patch 9 was a bed of roses would make me a hypocrite. There has always been major problems in this game, fixes only reveal other issues that go from minor to major on these forums. I would bet that anyone who ventured over to your pre patch 9 server and played for a few months would come running back to a post CU server after crossing paths with a melee stacking templater with a DOT lance. Some of us haven't forgotten, so we prefer to move on instead of reminiscing on a past that stunk as much as the present.

pre cu is even more unbalanced, and alot less fun than pre cu was. i miss being able to tank without spamming heals, the ability to actually level up solo, watching a jedi fight and going "holy crap this was awesome" as opposed to post cu almost falling asleep.

You seriously think much changed?

What I really meant was that I liked the concept of the hologrind. The way that it was implemented into the game was half-ass and was done unintelligently. Of course, who would expect anymore from SOE.

the hologrind was the downfall for jedi and the game.

hologrind = 32 professions at the most

village = 4.5 months at the least.

it really doesn't matter, the path for jedi is known in both systems.

if people didn't know that mastering professions lead to unlocking, how many people would have actually power grinded through 32 proffessions?

we didn't do it cause we wanted to learn those professions, we did it cause it was the path to jedi.

Master it, drop it, master it, drop it and so on.

the path should have been random and unknown.

everyone can unlock, it's not the same for everyone, and there is no set path.

Someone once said about putting in random badge requirements. I thought that was actually a pretty good idea. It wouldn't just be like "Hey let's go do the warren and the 3 vettes." or something else. That way more content can be covered looking for your "hidden" badges.

It would've been interesting too if they had made it so it was a random collection of badges for each person, with a random number above - for example, 20 - being required to unlock FS.

You could have one person who has to master 3 professions, visit 13 POIs, kill an Ancient Krayt, get the Intellect and Altruism badges and visit the kill Necrosis.

Another person could get a completely different set of badges to get, determined at the outset of their character creation much like the holos were.

That way the whole "path to Jedi" would be entirely random and would actually involve exploring the game to its fullest.

Food for thought.

I also wish they would go back to the hologrind sure there would be more jedi then there were a year ago but only the people who really wanted it got it, I knew tons of people who said they weren't going to grind tailor to unlock and that was their last profession they had to do... Just how it works.. of course I wouldn't mind a system that went like this

4 holos tell you to master 4 professions.

about 10 Random Badges

Old Man Visit

Sith Attack

Villiage --- with no time limit, you can unlock all your branches the minute you can visit the village or keep it the same as it is now.

The FS xp grind

Old man visit

Jedi.

Something ot that effect anyway, the system is too easy now, I think alot of us really complain about things and then want things to go back to the way it was before which is why we should all stop complaining anyway, I personally don't feel "all classes should be created equal" People play the classes they want to play regardless of how strong or weak it is, I don't think sony has ruined this game I've actually seen a vast improvement to what it used to be. But I think sony messes up the game when they try to please everyone.

And before I get hassled about my jedi system, I haven't unlocked mine yet, so I'm not trying to limit jedi when I already have mine. I just really liked that about a year ago there were handfuls of jedi, and they played how they were supposed to they stayed hidden and I liked that, lightsabers back then "which you rarely saw" was just something to ohh and aww about. Now they are nothing special, I honestly feel jedi should get stricter bring back some of the old stuff and send them into hiding, because that's how it's supposed to be jedi are hunted and killed I don't see why no jedi seem to want to understand that? There were plenty of jedi who got along just fine a year ago yeah the system was buggy but they did Just fine staying hidden and doing what they do. I knew 1 or 2 jedi back in the day, and they really enjoyed playing and felt like all their hard work was worth it.. Even if I had a jedi, which I do plan on doing just to experience that part of the game, I'm going to do my best to stay hidden because that's how jedi were intended to be played when sony designed this game. But with everyone complaining about this and that it probably won't even be fun by the time that happens.

What is funny is I have been through all the Jedi rumors and truths to try and unlock. when I started I assumed that certain players would get rewarded for accomplishments with a Jedi slot. Then after a year people speculated that badges were the answer, so I now have over 100 badges including the rare CsR ones. After that speculation people believed the Mark of Hero would unlock Jedi so I took on the painstaking process of getting them only to realize that 75% of them were broken. Then someone unlocked on another server after doing a few professions... I had been a swordsman since launch, so stubbornly I ignored the concept of profession grinding to unlock. Then they revealed the Holos, so I began searching for them... 30 professions later and no Jedi, the patch to end the grind came about. The village is introduced and I am awarded for my efforts with a few branches, gritting my teeth I ground out the last tree and then it hit me... burnout. I was done, the fun I had with leading a Guild and being in the GcW as an active combatant had be swept to the side for all these attempts at Jedi and it burned me out. I quit the game for a year and returned, finished the last few branches and unlocked Jedi finally.

So for people like me the cries of "I grinded hard pre-cu" or "post-cu Jedi don't know how it is" falls on deaf ears. The hologrind was a burnout and had it been badges people would have grinded that too. Can you imagine all the awesome bios people would write if they knew a Biography badge could help propel them to Jedi status. Lol it's a nice concept but if it were done, I wsih they would have done so 2 years ago.

You were your own worse enemy then.

I unlocked on my 11th profession mastery (see my sig) and most of them were not too harsh, although Armorsmith was a killer both financially and mentally.

I wouldn't have bothered grinding 30 professions though, that's for sure. No offence but more fool you for getting that sucked in to do it. It should've been patently obvious at the time how destructive the hologrind was, and that there was no way it was going to remain as it was. People walking around with Master Armorsmith titles (myself included) with no idea how to make composite armor. It ruined the game for quite some time.

Kudos for getting so many badges, but to be brutally honest if it was to the detriment of your own health or sanity then you really needed to quit long before finishing the 30 professions.

There has always been a way for all characters to become a jedi. Just what was it really worth to them? That's the question.

I think sony would do better to move anyone who wants to to a new server where jedi are spoon fed etc.. Along with whatever other classes wish to go, it would bring back that feel when about 92000 jedi leave your server never to be seen again, me in turn would choose to stay where I am and be hunted, and choose to stay hidden.. It's a good idea and I think it's a simple answer to alot of people's problems, then start working on bugs and what not.

The only real issue I have with the village is this: how could a bunch of Force Sensitive tree huggers and an Old Man you know nothing about set you on your way to the Padawan Trials and Jedi-hood? This makes no sense. I can see how the villagers can enhance your abilities (as they do now) for your character, but what makes the knowledge they give to you anything related to Jedi? Not at any point in the village are you talk anything Jedi-related. Not even the Old Man teaches you anything Jedi-related. It is basically, "oh you're Force Sensitive now, here's a Lightsaber, figure out Jedi for yourself."

It doesn't even make sense that your NPC trainers are some random various skill trainers throughout the Galaxy. The whole thing should have really revolved around a Jedi NPC from the Old Republic that is in hiding and sees your potential. Ah well, SWG2.
