Thread: Making Jedi Harder to get.

I gotta disagree with the whole bring back holo grinding thing.. The current system is way harder then it was to grind out a few professions. Also, combat xp converstion has been nerfed too... so no more commando/nades to become a jedi. I sometimes think that it should be harder to become a jedi, but as some one else already stated... it is easy to say that since I have been a jedi a while.

Biggest problem Isee is not the jedi grind (the village and xp conversions that is), but the visits from the old man. I feel that the path to getting the old man is way to fast. Pretty much everyone knows what quest you gotta do (and the easiest ones) and all the poi's (minus 2 that I can think of) are mark on the planetarymap.. I know several newer players that have not even played 3 months, receive thier first visit within 2 weeks of playing.. these guys were not even at level 80 yet.

Simple fix (IMO) would be to simply remove ALL poi waypoints from the planetary map and make it feel like you have actually discovered something.. and make the required quest random for each character. This idea would simply slow down even getting into the village and would force newer players to enjoy atleast a few of the quest they may come upon rather then trying to breeze thru everything.

but once again, it is easy to say this once you are a jedi... and I do think the current system is fine.

I dont think making jedi harder to get will solve anything . Reason being is the majority who begin for first time playing this game will more of likely want to become jedi, especially since we are playing in star wars universe in a real life time of the release of Episode 3 . Everything right now is lightsabers and jedi incase you havn't noticed.

If you make jedi harder to get most people will not play this game long they will lose interest , especially if jedi is their goal .

I dont think very many full-template jedi even play their jedi very much to begin with, and when the FRS comes back , people will play them even less. Your not gonna be online with your jedi very much if you are permanantly overt . The only time you will be on is when you are feelin ready for some pvp action. Which for some people this is what they love to do, but for most I dont belive is the case.

The jedi population isnt the problem in this game right now . What is the problem is the " general Population" .

We need players ! Our servers used to be packed and now they are bare cause most people leave for probably the 2 most popular reasons. 1. Lack of content after jedi , or the nonjedi profession they chose. 2. Sick of everything constantly being changed, nerfed, however you put it.

SOE can easily bring people back into this game , and i will give ya 5 sure-fire ways right here and now on how to do it , then i will close and give ya something to think about .

1. Upgrade the Combat and make it a combo of whats good in CU and what was good in pre CU .

2. Add new quests , pois, and such every few weeks to give players continuosly new stuff to look forward to.

3. Bring combat and assualt vehicles into the galactic civalwar . players who are not jedi can fight jedi with these! Make jedi more powerful to accomadate for the power of the assult vehicles , droids etc.

4. Make crafters vital to the game once agian ! Vehicle parts can be made by all sort of doff types of crafters . Weaponsmiths, shiprights, droid-engineers . How awesome would that be to put some credits in the DE's pocket for once!

5. Get this FRS going , and make it totally like nothing SWG has evr seen in terms of leveling and RPG questing to be a jedi master ! Make people want to be jedi agian ! give people reason to go out and pick up a copy of SWg and put their spare time into a game worth while!

I can come up with many more tactics to sell this game and im not a even a sales man nor do i want to be , but this is the only way this game is ever gonan be comparable or better than what it used to be , we need GENERAL POPULATION! --Jakatta

Wrong. The EU is full of Dark Force users working for the Emperor, many of whom are in game. Mara Jade and the other Emperor's Hands, Lord Hethrir, Inquisitor Tremayne, Jarec, The prophets of the Dark SIde, Azrakel, Executor Sedriss... Not to mention, in the movies the two of them talk about Luke and say, "If he could be turned, he would be a powerful ally," not, "He's a Force User, all must be exterminated."

You can stop there, becouse that's where this post is wrong.

Jedi is nerfed becouse there's not enough time to redesign them to work post-cu, and before they are revamped theese small "adjustments" made to streamline them to the system is only making things worse.

Mindcost and cooldowns to heals is now near exactly like Doctorheals, but it was done without revamping forcebar or the Healer skillset.

Snare is added to Cloak to make them exactly like how other invisibility skills work in the rest of the game, but it's done without revamping the Powers skillset.

The effect from Force Speed was reduced to make them balanced along with other speedbuffs, but it was done without revamping the Enhancer skillset.

What we see is an attempt to "quickly" patch up a leaking hull of a boat that shouldnt have been put out in the water in the first place.

The rest of the suggestions wont fix a thing. Nobody will exchange something they worked for in a year (counting the hunt for pearls) for a character they can buy at any time. Hologrinding and slower xp wont reduce the current population, the pandoras box is open. Just adding Jedi content without fiing visibility inside cities wont fix a thing.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

I got this from a post reply and i agree with it. I also believe it deserves a post of its own.

Yes Jedi are getting nerfed because they are entering the game at an alarming rate, and if the numbers keep growing the nerfs will get worse. what will happen is a tricky situation for SOE, if they bring back permadeath they run the risk of losing a customer every time a Jedi is killed i.e bad for business. what can they do to control the onslaught of Jedi.

1. Offer an incentive such as a third character slot to those that permadelete their Jedi. Those that are tired of playing Jedi would take this offer just for the third slot (and remember i said those that are tired of playing a Jedi)

2. Redo the requirements for becoming Jedi, bring back the mystery, hologrinding, make the requirement random per character and only when you finish a requirement may you find a holo leading you to the next, in essence make it hard again. SOE made it easier because they didn't have the amount of Jedi they were expecting now they have to many. Now you can ask anyone or look online for the requirements to become Jedi or detailed instructions on how to finish any village quest. This has to be changed. Jedi is supposed to be hard not come with instructions.

3. The group XP bonus have made grinding faster for everyone. They need to remove it, or not have it apply to Jedi to slow things down.

4. Jedi Content: constant additional content for Jedi, that would keep them out of the cities and off the radar of the non Jedi community. i.e get rid of the village, come up with a unknown planet where their is a lightside and a darkside temple, only Jedi can land there, planet has 100% Jedi content

5. Change all village content to make it so none of the current Jedi can provide instruction to the new upcoming Jedi, slowing down the grind even more.

Anything to be added to or commented on pls let me know.

ok first of all, i unlock this phase, and ive been playing for a long time as my forums registartion shows. i have 70 million xp to grind out to get the last two rows of FS xp. I grind xp at a slower rate than a jedi does. The problem is that a person that can grind the 280 million xp to get to jedi can get full temp jedi in less time. I can still master a profession a day for any combat or medical with the exception of BH and commando. Bh took me two days, commando is maybe 3 or 4 days max. Any crafting can be mastered in two days max, and the entertainer can be done in 2-3 days. I could master all professions in maybe 2 months, and unlock with Holos pre patch 9. I was dumb, however, and thought it would be easier now after the CU. I think that jedi is hard enough to get, but it should be a different type of system. Maybe quests, who knows, but I agree it needs to be done differently. i do know however, that the Old school BH took forever because of the old seeker problems, i was BH pre CU as well, and respecd out of it and then remastered LOL. Point being, i dont think it is any easier to get jedi now, you can just do it without changing professions and getting an idea of what everyone else in the game has on their plates.

One and All,

My gaming days go back a long long time and I have watch the evolution of the gaming industry with interest since I use games to deal with the stresses of my business . Being an engineer and doing product development for over twenty years the problem is not Jedi, it's not content, it's not alot of things. The one thingthat changed it all was Everquest.

Everquest changed one thing in the Gamming world , it organized the player base. The player base organized itself into power guilds that now span several games besidesEvrquest , The fist of light is one good example. They will send volunteers to check a new game out and report back. These new organized groups consume games like a lion consumes it's prey. These guilds also put their brightest people into figureing out quests and puzzles for new items.

So how is a 50 or even a 100 man Developement team going tokeep up with thousands of peopletearing everything down to base numbers , posting on alakazims, statics, Warcry, just to name a few. How does a few people hold back the thousands plus the information sites? They can't, games get ripped apart and the maintenance people are there to try and keep it going for as long as they can. Everquest would release a new moldule that they spent months and months developeing, and within thrity days or less is was mapped, guidlined, and clued to death.

when an MMPORG ages it does not age well, it's like waking up one day and the wonderful beautiful mate next to you became an old person. The rose colored glasses came off and your saying "What the hell?". Most of the game developers and managers are game dabblers and their time in games is very short, many times MMPORG's is all they know, so their expierence in gamming and understanding the mindset of those who game is not very well understood, and so their solutions to fix certain issues is usually very short sighted and more quick fix orientated, because they want to move onto the next new techie thing. SWG is getting old and needs a face lift, if LA is so interested in this being some sort of flagship software, then I suggest they put their money where their mouth is. This MMPORG need's a loving hand and from someone who understands what gamming is all about.

"Force users"and directly for the emperor, Not dark jedi running around in masses killing rebellion forces. Never seen that in anybook or movie either.

Also Mara jade was not a jedi. Shewas also hand picked and trained by the Emperor himself, How many have Jedi training that you can list?

Just because someone walks the dark side does not make them an ally of the empire, and just because Some one walks on the light side should not automaticly make them an ally to the rebellion. Yes there where force users around allied with the empire, but force users that didn't where slaughtered good evil or indifferent.

wow, you have zero clue how much jedi cost for the people that carried this game to when you started playing.

the reason you say stupid stuff is because you do not know how to reason

I agree with the post and yes I would be willing to start from scratch again if being a Jedi was a bit of a rarity and had the Hologrind power. I think the hologrinding was easy... once people figured out what needed to be done.

It would be more fun though if it was a bit of a mystery like it used to be. Poke and prod at the game, not knowing how to unlock; then once you unlock you get visited by the Old Man and are allowed entry to the village that has 4 week long phases, and continuewith the way it is now. Also, change the group vis back to the way it was with one exception... make it so you could group with one other Jedi and not get vis. Oh, and bring back the cloning penalty... that was good for making me decide if what ever I was doing was worth the xp loss.

There are soooo many Jedi out there, I feel kind of dumb playing mine. Many of the older Jedi have stopped playing, but their toons continue on thanks to Ebay....

i think i does!

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.
