Thread: Would you have bought or would you still play SWG if there were no jedi? (Updated due to NGE)

No, I wouldnt have. I bought SWG from day one because I knew Jedi were going to be in the game. I knew it wouldnt be easy to become one, but it would be possible, and even if you were one, you'd be powerful, but there were risks too. Honestly, Jedi and starship battles are what always intrigued me about Star Wars the most. I could really give a rats ass about being a smuggler, bounter hunter, moisture farmer or whatever the hell else. But I sold myself on the fact that I would try the other professions and see if they were any fun on my way to Jedi. Two long years later, I am now a Jedi, and kicking myself in the rear for continuing to pay for this game given its current state. I did exactly like everyone always said: "dont worry about Jedi, enjoy rou character and explore the game, and when you get Jedi, it will be all the better"

Well, it looks like I was lied to, I should have pushed and power grinded, done whatevr I could to get a Jedi in the old days, because they are pointless and worthless now. Its like coming home from a hard days worth of work, and having your wife set down a plate of dog feces in front of you, and then turing a blind eye and ignoring you when you complain about it. That about sums up the Jedi experience right now. They took something that should be absolutley fun, rewarding, and enjoyable, and turned it into a drudgery of nerfs, being griefed and harassed by other players, and endless grinding the same thing over and over to just try and scramble to have an effective Jedi for at least a couple of weeks before that template is invariably and inevitably nerfed to uselessness as well. If this is SOE' vision of a long term reward, then I feel like I have been cheated.

I was in Beta 2 and played gloriously for months before a Jedi

No offense to you fine folk....but I liked it when there was no Jedi. People choose professions because they liked it....we didnt choose professions based on how fast the xp conversion rate would be in the FS village.

One thing. There was always the knowledge that at one point Jedi would be a playable profession, we just didnt know when or how.

But to answer the original question, yes, I would have bought it anyway.

True. There was always knowledge that Jedi would be in the game. But the DEVs (Raph and Kevin specifically) stated that obtaining Jedi and maintaining the Jedi would be extremely difficult. Raph also said not to expect too many Jedi on the servers and that seeing one "would be a spectatcle indeed."

How interesting things have changed.

I came into swg after jedi were introduced with no intention of being a jedi from the start. I was more interested in a social experience. Entertainers ftw I'd always say.

Jedi sucks now, so it wouldn't make a difference to me!

I bought it before knowing what any of it was about. I saw it was Star Wars, and as a role playing game, I had to have it.... didn't get hooked on Jedi till months after I started.

Welcome to the New Galactic Empire, a very hidden organization that has managed to kill far more citizens and destroy far more communities than theImperial Navycould have ever dreamed of.....

Back when the game was launched we had no idea how to get jedi. Man I miss the days of not caring about jedi, /Sigh running around in bone armor that is broken good times.

Yes I would have purchased this game if the only jedi in it were NPCs.

yeah, absolutely. I love playing with both my Jedi and my non-Jedi. Equally as fun in my opinion.

Why play swg if their is no way to become a jedi ?

Sadly now days you have to wonder why play a jedi at all.

Someone who was registered from 9/16 should understand jedi is not the only thing in game. Heck I have more fun on a non-jedi now. They don't get any hate tells except from jedi if you can kill them in a duel or in PvP. And normals don't get nerfed every patch. Only thing special about jedi is you don't wear armor, and you get a glowy sword that does very low damage. Personally the glowy stick gets old and if you want no armor there's a great profession called Teras Kasi that you can grind out in a few hours.

no i wouldnt. the best thing about SW is the jedi/sith. a game without it would get old real fast.
