Because they have no vision of how this game should be.

Because this game and the decisions that govern what happens to this game are made by people who care about selling boxes. The devs have nothing... repeat... nothing to do with such decisions. I'm a developer for the largest hospital network in the great state of MO and every week I make recommendations and every week I develop what I'm told to develop regardless of what my opinion is.

Ever wonder why we've had two expansions that coincide with EpIII? One when EpIII hit theataers and one when the DVD is released? Both with EpIII content. Even though it has nothing to do with SWG we are 'Force' fed this stuff so they can sell more boxes. It has nothing to do with actual content and certainly has nothing to do with what is good for the game and community.

This is what they assign the developers to do instead of fix bugs, balance the game, and add content...

Different from what I had seen out there on the market. EQ2 and WoW are cartoony games designed for those nerds who were at the Attack of the clones opening where triumph wasted them. Those are the kind of games im talking about. SWG WAS different, but now its all those other crap games that I have seen people play, andread reviews etc. No I have not played them but its because they didnt look like they were worth it.

btw I dont know how to do the "someone wrote this and this is my response" so I tried to make a cheap version of it

Yeah, I thought WoW was a bit too cartoony also. But...a few RL friends of mine convinced me to sign up for the open beta (it was free, why not?) and I got used to the bubbly graphics. Once I got passed the cartoony look I really enjoyed the game. It doesn't have the "realism"that SWG has, but it doesrun a lot smoother. Also...even though it's one of those "typical" aspects of most RPG/MMOs...I love a game that has decent drops when you kill stuff. It's always fun when you play a game like that and loot a rare/unique weapon orsomething like that.

Anyway, as for quoting someone. When you want to respond to a specific person's post be sure that you click on the reply button which is attatched to their post (don't just read to the bottom of the thread and hit the last reply button you see, scroll up if you need to andgo back to the post you're answering) then above the text box in yournew post window look for a littlewhite "text bubble" like you've seen in comics. Click that and it will post the person's blocked quote.

And good at basic math...

"Hmmm...I'm 80 and he's 56... 80 minus 56 equals I can kick his butt."

The CL system, IMHO, is the root of all problems. Not the fact that levels exist per se, but rather the damage multipliers in PvE and stigma associated with being non-80.

It completely killed off Crafting/Combat combo templates.

It ruined any excitement or purpose for wild exploration and experience. Wild creatures are rarely near enough to your own level to make killing them either exciting, challenging, rewarding.

It bound every character to the mission terminals for leveling.

Scores of problems when mixing level-based combat system with a profession-based skillset. A CL80 Pistoleer/Rifleman who wanted to start being a Fencer would have to kill CL80 mobs with a 25 DPS baton, or otherwise get no XP.

Encounters have become predictable.

Broke most all existing loot tables.

etc.

couldn't agree with you more, but what it does is make the toons drop all skills at once an totally regrind, which takes more time to do than dropping boxes off one at a time as you gain xp. This equals more time spending money on your account.

I don’t like the new CL system either… Skill based system made SWG very unique and interesting. There were some things that needed changing because they were overcomplicated and no one (including the new devs) knew how this stuff really worked. In their attempts to “fix” things the new dev team lost a lot of the original vision of SWG. At this point there is no going back, because I doubt CU II is coming, and we are stuck with a strange level-skill hybrid.

As for WOW.. I quit SWG for a while to play WOW and ended up coming back… Wow is easy, fast, well thought out, and very playable… When you compare it to SWG, Wow is like a well oiled mountain bike, and SWG is like a beat up turbo charged Corvette. Some people enjoy the simplicity and reliability of a mountain bike, while others enjoy the roar of an American muscle car. (even though it might stall on you in 5 mins)…. SWG is an infinitely more ambitious project (player cities/crafting/space/ID…could go forever here), and as a result we suffer from slower graphics, much more bugs, etc…

I still think that SWG has enormous potential, but the designers have to start listening to the community that is actually playing the game to see how to change and improve it. If they keep “dumbifying” the game only to attract new customers, the game will lose its dedicated core, and die shortly after.

that is one of the best informative posts ever on this board....If you think about some of the comments about how you have to grind one type of mastery (swords) and have to start from zero on you second mastery (pistols) your initial skills hurt you more than help because you are going to have to use a cl level one weapon when you have acl level of 56. Which means it takes longer to grind, you pay more cause the time grinding. I know companies are just out to make money, thats their job, but to absolutly screw over every player to do it is wrong.

There is no fear, there is power.
There is no death, there is immortality.
There is no weakness, there is the Dark Side.
I am the Heart of Darkness.
I know no fear, but rather I instill it in my enemies.
I am the destroyer of worlds.
I know the power of the Dark Side.
I am the fire of hate.
All the Universe bows before me.
I pledge myself to the Darkness.
For I have found true life, in the death of the light.
