I think it would have been fine had soe developed the game from the beginning, modelling it after eq (or ii). A common engine is really cost effective, and would have left soe more budget to implement other things.

CL is fine. Especially for new people. I think that the resistance is to change, not the change itself.

So in order to get content and expansions that benifit this game we as players should hope that Lucas releases the SW episodes 4-6 where Han shots first still? The addons I seen from folk who had the nerfed dvd set were horride. The dewback in Ep4 was just so awfl cgi rubbery plastic looking. For all the special effects at Lucas's disposial its sad he put out such a shoddy product. Puppeteers are better.

Well I do remember Han having a one piece suit made out of carbonite but it weighed a ton. Still it didnt require any ironing and was very wear resistant.
Thanks SOE! The CU and NGE gave me my life back. Thanks! Bitterness is the taste of love lost, a tear of acid that burns the heart.

why cant the dev's make some of the game of how players would like it to be? the people(players) would enjoy it more if they had atleast a larger view(more than 1.5%) of what will go into the game.

the CL system is awful... there's no sense of adventure to the game anymore if you can't go kill insanely hard beasts cause you already know what will happen

Pre-CU I could raise a brand new character... with the right combination of medic, rifleman concealing, and some other stuff.... could get a T21 and go kill some really tricky stuff... but be very afraid of dyin' the whole time.. hell I remember hitting Novatroopers for 4000 points with Novice Pikes before (uber looted pike)...

Back then it was maybe more related to your skill and your weapon...if they just coulda nerfed the dots and changed up armor so we all didn't wear composite... redone buff system as they have now... that'd be a nice little upgrade right there...no need for all this CL/windup/timer/healingvshealing/AI/CL80 crap

I have to agree. The CL system is absolutely horrible. I really miss being able to hunt/grind in the wild.

I find it really funny how the new creature handler pet training that recently got implemented is right out of WOW.

The devs love their new cookie cutter game

It should be obvious by now that the SWG devs are trying to make this game look more and more like EQ2 every day. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the reason for this is, as someone has already said, that SOE is trying to come up with a common software base from which to develop both games.

From a management and bean-counter perspective that might make sense. But by not only its content, but by its very nature, SWG is totally different than EQ2. It'd be like trying to develop an automobile using the parts scounged from a horse-driven carriage.

The sad part is: we the players and customers have no influence on this whatsoever.

BINGO!!!

Already DC comics have sold SOE the rights to develope and maintain a MMOG based on the DC comics and superhero's within that 'universe'. What better way to make MMOG's if you have a common graphics engine, combat system, quest system, map layout and overall content system. It's like FPS games using the Unreal engine for the games.

Cookie cutter MMOG's is where SOE is heading and maintaining MMOG's like that is much easier than trying to maintain 3 or 4 with different systems for each one.

QFE

The other major motivation to this "Cookie" approach is creating a common pool of support and development staff.

Thus reducing some of the labor costs / fixed costs.

you wanna know why they wont...because they ripped off every aspect of WoW. I hate that game but when I was watching my girlfriends little brothers play it I was amazed to see how much of it that SWG ripped off. From the toolbar "Cartoony" icons to the combat level and even the stupid purple xp appearing at the top of the mobs heads. Its a shame that this game turned from a unique game into just another MMO. This was my first mmo game and I liked it cause it was different. Now its the same crap that made stay away from EQ and all those other nerdy games. SWG has become WoW and all I can say is WOW does it suck

err no if anything WoW ripped it off EQ nad EQ2 which are owned by SOE. therefore SOE didnt rip anyone off but implemented a system they use into one of their other products

I get kinda bored of the whole 'ripped off WoW' line tbh.. the above poster has it right, the ideas they are usuing are their own from a different game.

MAC vs IBM

SWG was far from perfect when it came out, but it was very different from EQ2. We weren't as popular, maybe, but SWG had a loyal following that appreciated the unique character of the game.

Sort of like the Mac versus IBM competition...

MAC is still alive and well...iPods are definitely helping...though IBM continues to dominate.

In our case, SWG sold out to become like EQ2. End of story.

On the bright side, we old-timers will not be around much longer so the newer generation will never know the difference.

The CU has great potential...and it will always have only that...great potential...
