Thread: Details of Cloak Nerf

Since you can damage a cloaker with Area Attacks, and you can follow a cloaker by his shadow (working as intended? theoretically not, but I think the devs like this), then this snare is very significant. Duel a friend hit him with area attacks. Bring a group to surround him and drain force. Also, just follow him now. It will annoy the hell out of him and will force him to fight sooner or later or logout I suppose.

If you don't want cloak, then why the hell did you put it in?

Next, if you gonna strip Jedi of usefullness of A.I. (defender), Cloak (powers), SAP (healer), Force Speed (enhancer), (next up...MLS)and also ignore the speed bug and ignore the horrible pearl/crystal drops/tunes, then at least GIVE JEDI something!!! continual decay of Jedi will not lead to increased revenue for SOE...Peeps will simply stop grinding Jedi, which is and has been the BIGGEST reason many many many subscribers have stayed for so long.

Chew on that SOE, chew on that like a big pile of cud.

i think it all seems "reasonable" except for not being able to heal yourself and the snare effect...

I can understand that Rangers, when being "Stealthy" should by definitiion be slower but Force Cloak is something different altogether...

The reasoning behind adding the snare to prevent it from being used as an escape mechanism is rediculous... why shouldn't jedi who choose to be evasive rather then combative be penalized?

If they add the snare without taking the ability to use /follow or the other exploit that alllows one ot attack a cloaked jedi, then this is indeed a heavy nerf

HOW is it that huge of a nerf. Because you sprint in? Does Burst Run not work when snared? Parawan cakes? In it's currenty incarnation, the skill is on par with a Master Level skill, not some 0400. The change is simply a change in strategy, nothing more. If you use it properly, it will still be extremely effective. Adjust your tactics.

There's the real SWG Jedi attitude.

I don't think these changes are drastic enough to cause people to go nuts (like it has been). If you think about it, the ability to become invisible should weigh heavily on a the mind a jedi where he/she has to use a great amount of concentration. In the movies, if a jedi has to do something that requires a lot of force he must concentrate heavily and seems exhausted afterwards. Healing, attacking, etc should not be allowed the same time he cloaks. Cloak should be used for escaping and spy type activity, not to prepare to sneak attack someone. And yes I know, some things must be fixed for this to happen correctly.

Hi,

You may want to ready our Jedi correspondent's post here that confirms that the devs see cloak as an alpha strike for powers users - yeah, I know a lot needs to be done so that powers users can do this but it is supposed to be used for offence.

I don't see the nerf as all that bad. The snare sucks, but if that is all they are doing to cloak there will still be people crying for more of a nerf saying that it wasn't enough.

Adding an Avoid Incap-type snare to cloak makes this skill useless for everyone but the MLS/Defenders who dabble in cloak. They have the defenses to survive a snare, while MLS/MPs and MLS/Master Enhancers don't.

Another incredibly stupid move, if it goes live.

burst run and parawan cakes do not work while under cloak.

you have to burst run first or eat parawan first then cloak.

I think a Dev, I've seen Blixtev's name being bandied around unfairly, needs to step in here and clarify what their vision of cloak is to see if it lines up with the players vision of cloak. IF a snare is working as intended, I think powers users can live with it as long as someone up the chain comes in and clarifies the devs visionfor it.

I'm specifically thinking about the offensive versus defensive arguments in a couple of other threads. Many powers users I know usecloak as a defensive ability to *get away* from combat and recuperate. This is a completely legitimate use of an ability that takes you out of combat. To me, the new changes will do just that: remove the user from combat completely. I don't like the fact that a few people are using a few obscure dev quotes, without links to the original sources mind you (!!), to stir up the pot on this system change to the game's stealth invisibility rules.

I agree totally that the exploiting needs to stop and these changes will hopefully fix the worst ones. But I think the community needs more clear information instead of all the rumormongering going on right now.

The offensive use of this has been confirmed by our Jedi correspondent - he would not have confirmed it if this was not the case. Having a snare would make this alpha strike very difficult to pull off.

Ok...doesn't seem that bad...no worse than the FS nerf that brought many jedi, both powers and saber, to their knees.

Loot - containers - switches ... OK great legitimate cloak users dont care about this anyway

healing others .... could care less

snare AFTER cloaked ... I dont understand what this accomplishes anyway, you cant scout anymore while cloaked long distances ?

no healing self or channeling while cloaked ...ludicrus .. there is absolutly no need for this

As it is mpowers has to be very cautious about who they choose to take on. Why dont we just go back to pre cu where atleast it was fun not to be a mpowers.

Just to add insult to injury...My BH has been wiping the floor with Jedi...I am 5 out of 5, and 7 out of 13(4 deaths,2 escapes) overall since going BH 3 weeks ago

I luv BH'ing, but my Jedi is pathetic (and thats with a 704 max saber)

I killed aJedi yesterday in 30 seconds...sure, he was only a 145k payout (as it turns out), but still...

Even funnier, I went SF, killed an uber Melee character in 3 minutes with my MCM/BH/P0003/M0020 toon...My Jedi would have ran or lost

JEDI ARE PATHETIC !

Part of it depends on how drastic the snare effect is.My guess is that the snare will only apply while the cloak is toggled on. So you should be able to sneak up but just slower than before it will take more force to get to your target. And as far as retreating, get 20m away and you will cloak. Sure, you will be snared and you should be able to get away if they can't target or hit you (but it will work only if theyfix /follow).

And if you have force run the snare effect should be mitigated a little (if they let you use force run). Also, root would help in escape tactics. In this respect, dabblers with enhancer skills would be least affected.

You are losing with a 704 max saber? The problem is that you don't know how to play jedi.
