Thread: A simple solution to forced PvP
ctsDruid:
Lol i love these whining posts Jedi is a PVP profession, i think that BH should stay....
I find it fustrating that a BH comes along at bad times but thats the risk for been a Jedi you accepted this when you became one..
The way i see it is that either lose your Jedi and become a normal character prof again or don't get any Visability..
The choice is yours..
False, they removed the TEF so they can remove this

Hmmm if this happened when i was grinding my jedi template i could be neutral and never get hunted or loose xp wot a crap idea sorry but there would be hundreds of full temps running around. i liked the danger when grinding it keeps the game more interestingOceanic
I'm not sure this is true.
I've had a BH after me before when I was neutral (very early on in my template). He even asked me (after he'd found me) which faction I was going to go for, so he knew whether he wanted to attack me or not.

Dagis on the corbantis server is a Jedi i have been a Jedi since Pre CU..
You think it is hard now, wow back then i lost xp to any death then i had a BH come for me as a result of vis and lost xp TWICE...
You guys now have it so damn easy..
If you want a normal profession and don't want to risk anything then there is plenty to choose from just leave Jedi be as it is, it is a PVP class it is or was a ALPHA class it is not for care bears who dislike to fight it is for those dedicated enough to play and take risks of been one...
Please stop with trying to make a Jedi a normal template it is not it is supposed to be a Alpha class not something that is easy achieved..

arrrrr no i ment IF wot this guys saying wentinto the gamei would go neutral to grind and i dont think this is fair since every jedi would just go neutral till there full temp then change to reb or imp after

I think what he meant was that if you chose to go neutral jedi, you could not get into the FRS and thus whether you were reb or imp doesn't matter. You'd be nothing more than a reb or imp jedi toon who could enjoy the PVE aspect of the game, but are locked out of the GCW part of the game. It's really no different than taking your rifleman, making him a imperial and staying on leave forever but every once in a while you go overt to fight the rebs. That's the option we all have with our regular toons and yet we don't pay any dues to have that right. As a jedi though, we pay many dues, yet we don't have the same rights as our non-jedi toons. Does anyone see the irony here. You do little work and can avoid the elements of the game that you don't enjoy, but you do all the work in the world (which took some poeple 2 years) and you are forced to be involved in some small part you don't "always" enjoy.
First I think PvP needs to be clearly defined. A true PvP system is where both players have the ability or option to enguage the other player at any place or time of their chooseing. If this previous sentence is a definition that everyone can accept then what we have in SWG is not PvP. What we have in SWG is a limited form of PvP to give one player an advantage over another, this in itself is a disparity that creates anger and division among the player base. So in its present form the Jedi BH confrontation is flawed in its basic conception. If it were possible to get someone to listen (which many of us beta testers tried to explain) the following system could be implimented.
Jedi vs Bounty Hunter
The first big problem is how visibility works, for a Jedi to get somethings done in its present system a Jedi will get Vis if he does anything that will give himanykind of awardor gear from a two legged NPC. So Jedi are either forced to go into the wilderness and avoid everykind of person or two legged NPC around or get Vis. The primary reason for this system is that is was fairly easy to code. A potential alternative would be for the Jedi to gain Vis if he displayed any Jedi ability in a city he would gain Vis at a very rapid pace, also if he/she were declared ie rebel/imperial then those cities both npc and player would be off limits and would incurr an automatic attack from npc's of opposing factions. This leaves the jedi the ability to do things in your dungeon crawl and quests without generateing massive Vis. The major trick is avoiding this in cities or the wilderness areas where there are opposing factions. All Jedi and Bounty hunters have to declare a faction and they are always overt. this way a careful Jedi may avoid Vis for along time but he will end up on a list eventually.
Some folks say they like the "rush" of PvP well lets add to your "Rush" and let the door swing both ways abit. If a Jedi is on your opposing faction list and you take that particular Jedi's mission, there is a chance that the Jedi will feel a distubance in the force lets say a straight 50/50 chance. What could be better for the "Rush" that to know or not know that you may or maynot have complete suprise. This has the door swinging both ways , since the BH or the Jedi has the oppertunity for the ambush. This also will promote some response to the Jedi to enguage into PvP since the door is swinging both ways.
Rewards, this is probably the biggest flaw in the whole present system. Jedi have no reason to enguage except for bragging rights. I would think a point system, based upon the level of the BH, the more succesful the BH or Jedi the higher the reward. The rewards should be a point system of sometype with the possibility of cashing in for either gear or maybe an enhancement or possible special crystal. This gives the PvP system a method of rewarding players for particpateing on both sides, both Jedi and BH's have something to gain and loose with PvPing.
Finally, in it's present configuration it was supposed to be acontrol devcefor being Jedi, the problem is there is nothing to gain for a Jedi. so many because they have nothing to do at the upper level except help others enguage to avoid boredom or they play their BH alt. Jedi need a reson to enguage in PvP , to make the door swing boths ways and to give them a reward for enguageing in it, well then there might be some major fireworks. Well thats how it looks to me anyways.

Hold up.....If this is true that Jedi do not get hunted while in Nutreal mode....Then this must be as intended..Every charecter can go either imperial / rebel / Nutreal.. Then the jedi not really being on either Rebs side or Imperial side shoudl be able to go Nutreal. And If they dont get BH attacks for this then why would this not be ok...yes they became jedi but nothing says they cant be a Nutreal player in the GCW..maybe they wish to roleplay a none Military Jedi...none rebel none imperial Jedi in this universe..which should be perfectly OK..![]()
THis is all if being Nutreal and not being able to get a BH after you is still how this works...
Nuff Said...
There is a substantially easier solution: Increase all timers globally. This would increase the speed of all combat and thus make it so there aren't any more 30 - 40 min fights. Additionally, the best way to avoid forced pvp is to not gain visibility. These two factors would decrease the needs for people wanting to be pve only jedi.
Did I ever mention that I don't believe in PVE only jedi yet?
