You're right! I think he was in Weird Science too!
I would like to take a moment to reply to the interview posted with Mr. Smedley of SOE.
I am a veteran player of Star Wars Galaxies, with well over 2 years of play time at approx 2 – 6 hours per day. My wife and I both play and are extremely aggravated by the recent changes for the following reasons:
SOE never made any announcement regarding the revamp or rehash until a day after everyone had purchased their expansion of which according to my conversion testing, most of the items introduced there are being rendered useless or obsolete. The player base was baited into purchasing an expansion full of rewards that are now converted to useless paper weights.
The promise of Jedi exclusivity and then revocation of that are a slap in the face to veteran players who unlocked under the original system and endured the strife and hardship in order to reap the rewards promised, only to have them snatched from us, so it can be given out like candy to the masses. This represents complete fraud to those players who worked hard w/in the current and previous rule set to obtain.
Making massive changes to the live game, not once, but twice in less than a year is under minding the community’s trust in SOE as well as completely toppling the economy and hard work put into this game by its player base. My wife and I and countless others in our guild have spend hundreds of millions of credits building our characters based on the framework and rules that pre-existed, now all that work is lost. It’s not a minor hassle; it is a complete wipeout of all that we have worked hard to obtain. Why should we work our way back up? It’s been torn from the community twice. I have no confidence that this will not occur again.
Condensing professions have wiped out the one thing that made Galaxies unique and fun to play. Dumbing down classes into 9 iconic routes will cost SOE countless subscriptions after it goes live. Not because we hate the enhancements, but because they are no longer needed. As an example, I have the following characters: Jedi, BioEngineer/Chef, Merchant/Dancer, and Bounty Hunter. My wife has an Artisan/Doctor, Jedi, Creature handler/Pikeman. That totals 5 accounts. With this upgrade I will keep my Jedi as will she. I will make my now defunct BioEng/Chef a merchant specializing in domestics, and cancel my bounty hunter as there are no more player bounties to hunt and my dancer/merchant as it is no longer needed. She will cancel her creature handler as there is no such profession now and cancel her artisan as there is no need since my merchant specializing in domestics can do everything she used to do. There are three 15.00/mo subscriptions gone, even if we love the game.
I have played the NGE extensively in test center, and although I agree with the face paced combat that has resulted, I am very disappointed in the death of one of the most unique and captivating games I have ever played. It is not just the few doom and gloom nay Sayers on the forums. Log on to Bria, the largest server, and listen to the crickets in the once most populated cities and locations… The server is all but dead, and this happen w/in 6 hours of the announcement of the changes that the player base supposedly wanted.
I will stay on and try the New Game Enhancements, but with the current track record of SOE and what I have seen of the current conversion process from the current system to the new… I do not believe I, nor many in my guild will have the gumption to waste our time rebuilding everything we have lost for a 3rd time in hopes that SOE will maintain a stable and balanced game. In addition, our consolidation of no longer needed accounts will cost SOE thousands over the player base, as I can guarantee it will not be just a small group of cancellations once the player base realizes the reality of what is taking place.
Just my two cents…
Sincerely

I have quite alot of business experience with both game development and corporations, so I am very attuned to what he is saying. I believe he's alot more honest about the changes and underlying reasons than what's normal in this business.

and you even remotely agree with that bull**edit** he spewed about jedi?

I do not disagree with his post at all.
The main issue with NGE is the horrible interface, not the vision.
Some of the interview is even positive with regards to the future plans.
The only thing I do notentirely relate tois "There are a lot of different levels within that [profession], so the people who've been [working down the Jedi path] for a long time will be much more powerful than the people just coming up. We're still rewarding people for their loyalty over the years" since you can respec to Jedi after grinding a carbineer in less than 2 weeks.
Lol I swear you probely have SOE undies at home. Are you vying for Tiggs old job lol, keep it up and you just might get it.

In other words, you don't know who's in the minority either. Kthnxfor saying nothing.

This game have a very strong silent minority. Whenyou see an issue we are upset about, it's often the same players posting about it over and over again while positive gamers only post once or twice then go back to play the game. With the high forumcount of the "negative" posters, it's easy for a forumdweller to believe they represent the "large mass" when they in fact are no more than a few hundred players next to maybe two-threehundred thousand players.
