At MLS speed is irrelevant, you're capped with all the sabers, and yes if you go with a 3rd gen polearm you can get as high as 450 max dmg and down to around 8 force cost, the 1hand 4th gen is great once you get all the good stuff in it as well but right now it looks like you'll do a little better with the polearm.

I'm going to have to make a Gen III then Dual I've been using only 1 handed cause of the speed...and the mind hits..but you guys say Dual is better for dmg purposes?

My best pearl or crystals is -7 FC I have no -9

If you're MLS, speed doesn't matter, you're speedcapped with any saber and special. I use a 419-493 9 FC 4th gen Dual saber against BHs, haven't lost a fight since I picked up MLS.

Spooky, those are the exact stats on by Double..

So... I started exclusivly flying a standard Interceptor for PvP and I think I died more this weekend than have the rest of time I have been flying (and that includes several mass battles). I think one of my problems is my crafted engine. While a good one (62yp 58r 103 top speed), I just don't think it is good enough to fight a turning battle in a ship that can't hold a reward shild. I do have a pretty good Nym's engine but I am being very patient before I RE it and even when it is done I don't think I will be able to fit it on my ship. Any tips on how to get out of a turning battle and stay out of one? Any other tips are welcome as well. Here is my loadout:

Mk1 crafted reactor (1200 mass, 12k gen)

Mk3 crafted shield (13k mass, 1700 f/b)

Mk3 crafted engine (16k mass, 62yp, 58r, 103ts) (as of now my Nym's would RE to about 24k with 74ypr and 100ts)

Mk1 crafted capacitor (900 mass, 28 regen, 900 energy)

Mk1 crafted booster (500 mass, 32 speed)

Mk1 crafted armor(front and back) (900 mass, 200 pts)

Mk1 crafted DI (400 mass, 28speed

L7 RE Ion Pulse Cannon (14k mass, 3100 max damage, .32 refire, .68 eff v s/a)

Chaff Launcher (870 mass)

With RO3, EO3, CO3, WO3, CTSS4 (can run EO4 because engine has too high energy use)

Top speed is 1334 and 16something with booster

That crafted engine has got to go. Just get a Freelance Tier 4 Haor Chall Military Grade engine and RE it. It's also level 8, but with (not outrageous) components, you'll end up with a 75 YPR, 92.2 speed, 22K mass, 1500 drain engine that would do much better for PvP.

If you need a crafted engine, get an SW to make you a custon one and have him/her dump all the points in PYR instead of speed

I have two of those... and they both have 67ypr, and < 80 top speed, not sure about the mass but since I have been collecting engine to RE with my nym's I know that they aren't less than 27k. However I will keep it in mind... I might be able to RE one of those now with wasting my nym's. I did try a higher ypr engine but slower speed and at 89 it was just too slow.

Your best bet might be an REd L6 reward engine with a 70-72 PYR and run EO4. A post-nerf is only 82 speed after RE, but you will be able to run EO4. A pre-nerf would be better if you have the luck and $$$$ to acquire one. With only 50k mass, an REd L8 engine will be tough to fit.

I didn't even think about that... I have a few of those and if I get the speed up to about 80 and run EO4 It might be fast enough to keep up with with "normal" a-wings. Thanks for all the tips so far.

Well I am not an avid PvPer but I can tell you one thing, Interceptors with fast engines suck for turning battles even in PvE. Problem is you have to throttle up to 90% to get good turning so you are making big circles when you turn. With an engine crafted for speed you're making REALLY big circles because you're going fast AND your turning sucks.

IMHO try something slower, either crafted for maneuverability or something RE'd. You won't be as fast travelling in a straight path but turning you should be even with the other guys because of your high throttle and 1.0 chassis speed rating.

yeah.... bwings drive me insane. I might give the other engine another try (16k mass, 72yp, 62r, 89ts). Last time I got pwned pretty quick with it, butt that could have been the other pilot was just way better than me.

You have two options on the engine really:

1. Go for highest YPR humanly possible and focus on being able to out-turn/manuever oponents.

2. Go for highest speed possible and joust opponents - nullifying potential manueverability advantages. Scream past them so fast (guns blazing) then hit the boosters so there's no way they can turn around and get you before you're out of range. It completely nullifies their manuevering advantage when they can't catch up to you.

Of course now that I've said that, I'm pretty much screwed if I run into you in space and you go with option 2, since I'm running an X-Wing with a 73 speed engine but YPR in the 70's (Aka. Option #1). I really need to get a reward engine into this thing so it's at least around 80ish...

Engine is key with a squint mate. Then weapon, then shield.

I'd personally hold out for a nice lvl 8 engine, lvl 7 weapon and a mk IV shield or mk III shield or thereabouts. I might even try one out myself because I love the handling mods on the squint.

I always set my ships..well ok 'ship' up with how it was originally 'intended' to be used in mind. That is to say for example an A-wing should be fast light and manouverable. Same idea with the squint....only lighter.

I'll post more at a later time but atm its 3am and I'm kind of tired .

My Starsider alt will be flying a squint I think. Sounds like a challenge.
