I was waaay impressed to see another pilot in an Interceptor, you fly nice too. This is (more or less) what I have compared to you. I consider my ship pretty nasty in PvP. All of this is from memory, and I'm still working to tune mine:

PaceNebulon wrote:

Mk1 crafted reactor (1200 mass, 12k gen)

Do you need that much juice? 800mass I think, 11k regen crafted mark 1 Didn't see any of these on the SS market though

Mk3 crafted shield (13k mass, 1700 f/b)

Same, not sure on mass but the HP sounds correct. I run front shield adjust extreme in PvP.

Mk3 crafted engine (16k mass, 62yp, 58r, 103ts) (as of now my Nym's would RE to about 24k with 74ypr and 100ts)

Hate this - like others said throw a better engine in there. A careful RE'd 6 will get you speed in the mid 80's and PYR of 70ish. Mine is an 8.8k mass, high 80's speed, 70/71 PYR. Working on a better RE now, but that turning helps quite a bit.

Mk1 crafted capacitor (900 mass, 28 regen, 900 energy)

Same. Or thereabouts.

Mk1 crafted booster (500 mass, 32 speed)

RE'd level 2, not sure on mass. I like acceleration over speed, plus burn time.

Mk1 crafted armor(front and back) (900 mass, 200 pts)

No idea, I threw on whatever was left to fill mass.

Mk1 crafted DI (400 mass, 28speed

Prenerf, same mass.

L7 RE Ion Pulse Cannon (14k mass, 3100 max damage, .32 refire, .68 eff v s/a)

Sameish.

Chaff Launcher (870 mass)

Samish.

With RO3, EO3, CO3, WO3, CTSS4 (can run EO4 because engine has too high energy use)

The biggy will be getting up to EO4.I run all level 4's.

Top speed is 1334 and 16something with booster

Umm, after replying I think my ship is more similar to yours than I thought. An RE'd engine will let you run EO4. The big kick with these ships is they don't slide much, and can't take abuse, so most tactics will have to be head on to your target and fast. Slow targets like X-Wings can actually be harder to kill in this respect - I like to rely on short application of my booster to make a slightly wider arc and come around behind (or where behind should be, if they'd hold still) against faster targets. Honestly, when you and I fought you put up a pretty fight, my level 8 engine and EO4 on that A-Wing just gave me a slight turn over you.

I dunno if you could fit a level 8 engine and still have room for decent firepower or enough shield to take a hit.

Engine, good RE job, well say 23K mass
Lvl 7 weapon, good RE job, 14K mass.
MK IV shield, 17K mass
Total mass needed is 54K out of 50K chassis. MK IV shield is impossible.

So youd have to use a MK III shield. If i remember right, thats about 6500 mass or so. Thats it 43K mass used so far.

Armor, 974 mass X 2 = 44944
chaff ... hmm 1K mass? = 45944
Reactor MK 1 is about 1300, MK II is about 3K.. now were up to 47244 or 48944
Figure 1K or so for the cap = 48244 or 49944 if using a MK II reactor
DI = 500 mass......
Booster? forget about it.

Might work, need a GOOD chassis though.

Can't say id want to us a MK III shield though. Usually with at MK IV you can survive a single hit by the skin of your teeth half the time. Not so with a MK III.

Against a single guned fighter *maybe*. I have acutally survived a hit from ostat/harotak a couple times from his A wing on bria, although invariable something within my ship was put out of action. (weaving around for 5 mins without a gun cause my cap was destroyed was something silly). But regardless if i survived it or not, with component damage i was as good as dead.

Now with a 2 gunnned fighter, forget it, your toast.

I'm notsure who else uses it, but I do find front shield heavy adjust is very useful. I mean it opens your rear shield wide open so if anyone uses missiles on you cna you don't chaff it, you're dead but in gun fights I find it works well.

I find I take a lot of what I assume are single gun hits that my shield tanks just fine - glancing blows from X-Wings, A wings, etc. I would keep the shield. Just don't get hit from behind.

How about a custom 13.8k mass Mark IV shield with 1780 f/b shielding?

Reactor - L1 crafted 875 mass 11.4k energy
Engine - L8 REd 23k mass 1500 drain
Shield - L7 crafted 13.8k mass 3085 drain (An REd Protecto-Net is a good candidate here too)
Armor - 2xL1 crafted panels 950 or so mass each.
DI - L1 crafted 430 mass 593 drain
Cap - L1 crafted 970 mass 1070 drain
Weapon - L6 REd 9k mass 1800 drain

Total is 49.9k mass, capable of running EO4. With a high quality Interceptor chassis there's enough mass left over to fit in a lightweight L1 crafted booster, or with some mass adjustments, a chaff launcher. It all hinges on a 23000 mass REd L8 engine though, that's the hardest part.

Suffer me a moment to brag on the L7 RE shield I did for a friend the other day:

Mass: 12,570

Drain: 1483 1783 (edit: 1483 would be nice though huh?)

F/B: 2152

Regen: 15.2

Three protectos in that. Still not quite as good as the monster that Higginsis threw together, but I'm proud of it.

I think someone flying a TIE Interceptor without shields would be extremely cool. Would bring me back to the old TIE Fighter game trying to take out that minefield in your shieldless Interceptor, hehe.

I think Maudee had one with no shields or armor for a while, and an 8 or 10 engine. It was a beast, until you looked at it funny.

thanks to everyone for the tips... I took some of the advise and here is what I came up with (I have actual numbers this time... not guesses)

Thaumaturge
TIE Intercetor 50884 mass

L3 crafted reactor 13529 gen, 3207 mass
L6 RE engine 1339.1 drain, 9858 mass, 69.2p 65.7y 67.2r 82.2ts (bought this one till I can get the parts together for my own RE done... should be about the same except 70+ypr)
L5 crafted shield 3367.4 drain, 6705.9 mass, 1317.5hp f/b, 7.89 recharge
L1 crafted armor 285.1 armor, 983.3 mass (f/b)
L1 crafted capacitor 1173.1 drain, 972.2 mass, 961.6 energy, 28.1 recharge
L1 booster 991.8 mass, 26.1 accel, 33.3 speed, 9 sec burn
L1 crafted DI 431.7 mass, 24.4 speed
L8 RE Borstel Disruptor 24992.7 mass, 3876.4 max, .68/.69 vs s/a, 13.4 energy/shot, .39 refire
Chaff 890.7 mass
MK1 concussion missile launcher 864.6 mass (I figure every little bit helps)

I run RO4, EO4, CO3, WO3, CCTS4 with shield adjust front - extreme to test it out
top speed is 1150

(heh... this is the really good part)

mass used 50880 of 50884

so far I have tested it in DS against npc's but couldn't find any rebel players to try it out but I am really liking that engine. I considered dropping the shield all together since as Ducimus said a mk3 probably won't take even on hit but decided to leave it on for npc's

First off I'd like to day that I'm very happy not everyone has forgotten about the standard intercepter and I have been meaning to reply to this post for some time. Unfortunatly my laptop and I haven't been on speaking terms lately.... It underwent unautherizedopen heart surgery today. Although missing about 4 screws and a few random parts, the patient has made a full recovery.

Yes, I do occassionally fly a squint with a lvl 10 engine. Of course it there are two crippling flaws.... One: A lvl 5 blaster is about the biggest thing you can fit, and it's fairly easy to shunt through a hit from it. Two: You'll die to NPC's as much as other pilots... No shields and NPC accuracy = death.

I do remember one fun fight in my squint with that setup. I was flying against and Awing UPA pilot (forgot the name, sorry). I scored a couple of hits but she shunted most of the damage aways. I kept the preasure heavy and she bugged out about 2k fly around a nearby vette (very smart seeing as I had no shields :smileyvery-happy I sat back for a sec trying to devise a strategy to pursue. I decided on bomberstrike3'ing the vette to spread the agro and made a mad dash in at her. I missed an easy shot and went out to make another pass, confident that the vette wouldnt agro me I swept in on her lining up carefully this time. Well this time she was prepared and was turreting dead in space for me.... her shot hit first. Kaboom! Vaped. Regardless, very fun. Anyways... back to the point of this.

Attacca's comments are in Red, mine are in Blue. Attacca is one of the best squint pilots you'll ever meet so take his advice to heart even if I disagree with something. And remember, this ship has 50k mass. It is not a JSF. I can and have killed JSF's in mine, but plan on losing more than you would in a RotW ship. Its the price you pay to be unique.

Attacca is right on the money here. You have to cut power as much as possible to gain mass. Run with the smallest reactor you can safely run EO4 with.

Mk3 crafted shield (13k mass, 1700 f/b)

Same, not sure on mass but the HP sounds correct. I run front shield adjust extreme in PvP.

Er... yeah I think those number might be a bit off. Regardless, I run a Mark 3 with front shield heavy, I chose heavy just to avoid the occassional NPC shot to the rear. Extreme works as well if not better. Remember that even a 1900/1900 shield will rarely stop a medium to heavy blaster. So why die 100% of the time when you can run a shield mod and die 50% of the time. Just keep your belly away from your opponents and stay on they're 6 and you'll only take front hits.

Attacca is correct. A lvl 6 RE is your best bet, a lvl 8 RE can make a mean machine but you will take heavy loses in firepower and especially shields... I'll post a lvl 8 RE build another day, as I recently loaned out my lvl 8 and it was sold to a chassis dealer . Anyways, there is a problem with running a lvl 6 engine... squints have 3 strenths and many weaknesses. The strengths are, speed/manuverability, hitbox size, and weapons's spread. The problem is, that a ship which is inhearently less manuverable can dump in a lvl 10 RE engine and keep pace with a squint with a lvl 6. HOWEVER. If you understand how the squint turns you can make and engine which will help bring out the strengths of the 1.0 speed mod and the PYR accelleration of the chassis. This is going to sound counter-intuative but... I suggest a slower engine over a faster engine. I suggest building a lvl 6 RE without using the reward engine but instead using a speed of around 75 pre RE. This will bring you up to around 78 post RE speed. Now why the hell would you ever want to do this? Simple, squints turn best at 80+ percent throttle and you don't have an insane PYR lvl 8 or 10 to allow you to turn at speeds which Xwings (You're worst nightmare) turn at.With a slower engine, you'll be able to remain at you're throttle sweetspot while dogfighting. Not to mention that EO4 is basically mandatory in a squint, so you wont be too slow, just slow enough to turn with the big boys. Now yes, this makes you more vulnerable to fast moving small ships, however, remember you've got a small hitbox and a weapon spread that most of those don't. Pilot well and you'll have an even match vs ROTW ships and Awings, which is the best you can hope for. Remember that this is a standard intercepter and it will never be a JSF.

Mk1 crafted capacitor (900 mass, 28 regen, 900 energy)

Same. Or thereabouts.

Same.

Mk1 crafted booster (500 mass, 32 speed)

RE'd level 2, not sure on mass. I like acceleration over speed, plus burn time.

I also like specifically crafted boosters with no speed subcomp and high acceleration + burn time. Why? Because you can use a booster with a low speed mod but high burn time to keep up with Awing, etc. even with you're slow lvl 6 RE built to take out heavy X's. It adds some speed which you lack but doesnt throw you too far out of your throttle sweetspot like a 30-35 speed booster will.

Mk1 crafted armor(front and back) (900 mass, 200 pts)

No idea, I threw on whatever was left to fill mass.

Anything you can fit after everything else is taken care of properly, armor on the front first if you can only fit one piece.

Mk1 crafted DI (400 mass, 28speed

Prenerf, same mass.

Prenerf, same mass. Don't worry, shunting wont save you very often with front shield extreme.

L7 RE Ion Pulse Cannon (14k mass, 3100 max damage, .32 refire, .68 eff v s/a)

Sameish.

Sameish as well. Currently working on getting a setup with WO4 workable.

Chaff Launcher (870 mass)

Samish.

Samish.

With RO3, EO3, CO3, WO3, CTSS4 (can run EO4 because engine has too high energy use)

The biggy will be getting up to EO4.I run all level 4's.

Agree with Attacca, EO4 is a must to be competative. Run atleast RO4 and EO4. Don't forget front shield heavy/extreme in pvp. Yes, even in furball fights, like I said, 50% chance of dieing is better than 100%.

I'm constantly tweaking my Int and will post new configs in greater detail once I've reach a point which I'm completely happy with my ship kit. I'm planning on doing some engine testing soon.

Good luck, and once again, glad someone other than Attacca and I still love the good old squint!

I'll give you a post-re pre nerf for what you're offering mate. Has some good stats on it. 9k mass though. Served me well on my Mk IV or was it Mk V version of my A-wing.
