Thread: Windu Vs. Obi-Wan

Who would win, and why?
Obi-wan was no match for Mace, at any time in Mace's life. Now, maybe later on he would have been, but not at the point of Ep3 or anytime before that.
Mace basically defeated Palpatine, but did not realize that Anakin was the shatterpoint. Palpatine was defeated yes, but he knew that Anakin would choose him and Padme over the Mace andthe Jedi. It was Palpatine's knowledge of Anakin and his strategy that was the winner. Straight one on one, Mace had Palps beaten.
Yoda states that Obi-wan is no match for Palps, so how can he be any match for the person who was winning a one on one with Palps before Anakin intervened?
The answer is he couldnt.
Maybe down the road, he could have been a match for him

Dark vs. Light, yes, Mace beat Palp and in fact fulfilled his destiny with regard to the prophecy of the one that will bring balance to the force.
Light vs. Light
I agree that when comparing only combat vs. combat, Mace is the better of the two.
However, when considering the force, Obi-Wan would defeat Mace, Me thinks.

wow two in the same thread saying Mace beat Palpatine ... don't you guys think it's more than a coincidence when Palpatine "throws" his lightsaber off the window Anakin is walking in ?
Again, while someone watching the movie by itself cant know for SURE whether Sidious was pretending or not, the databank at starwars.com clears it up.
"The two dueled, transforming the office of politics into an arena of lightsaber combat. Windu overpowered Palpatine the instant Anakin Skywalker came running into the offices."
Unlike the movies, (where a character might be lying about something and its left up to the audience to decide for themselves whether what was said was true or not), the databank simply tells us what happened, and is nota character that might be lying, so what it said happened is what actualy happened in the movies.
The information in the databank is not told from a character's point of view, and that being the case, isnt subject to debate as to whetherit was a character lying or not. All it does is present in written form what happened in the movies, not whatmovie charactersthought happened.

Well, lets look at it this way: Yoda told Obi-Wan to go after Anakin even though Obi-Wan wanted to face the emperor. Why? Obi-Wan wasnt powerful enough to defeat Sidious. Earlier, Mace had done this. No, Sidious wasnt faking, check the databank at starwars.com. It says Mace overpowered palpatine, not that palpatine pretended to let him(remember, the databank isnt told from a characters point of view, it tells what actualy happened). Anyway, the point is, if, in fact, Obi-Wan wasnt powerful enough to defeat the emperor but Mace was, then that makes Mace more powerful than Obi-Wan through logic.
From the book, I gather that Yoda sent Obi-Wan to face Anakin because it was his Padawan, not because he could not defeat Palp. Obi-Wan was the best one to face Anakin to either kill him or save him. Unfortunately he did niether because of his love for Anakin.
While I agree that Mace did defeat Palp, he also had three other Jedi with him at the start of the Melee.
BTW, Yoda was owned by Palp. So sad me thinks.

Yoda past his prime.
This is why he could not defeat Dooku in a short time. Dooku was Yoda's apprentice just as Anakin was Obi-Wans.
While true that Obi-Wan sacraficed his life, he would have been defeated by Vader in the end. He too was past his prime. "I am getting too old for this kind of thing."
