Thread: Don't people realize that Ebay is ruining this game's economy?
We had a credit farmer operating out of our dantooine city. Obviously it was 1 person, with several accounts, as 1 person was ATK, the rest were marked AFK, and on follow running behind his vehicle to each mission.
All toons were master carbs, master rifles, with no other badges. He pulled NPC missions, and would only attack the lair/base until destroyed, then move to the next leaving NPCs behind. At one point there were hundreds of NPCs outside our city, causing massive lag if you approached them. Informing customer service did nothing.

There is no punishment Jergens.
Everyone still operates as normal.
You still get credits from a /covercharge for your services, you still can trade stuff to people, there is no punishment except for the ebay sellers.
- Getting loot takes effort
- Getting loot takes time
- To find a buyer for loot takes time
To really make money in this game they kill Meat Lumps... no joke. You see, ML's spawn in groups of 5-7. Each drops about 30 credits on average. You can kill 5 of them in 5 seconds. It takes them another 5 seconds to spawn (at some locations). So in 10 to 12 seconds you've made 150 credits.
- In 1 minutes you've made 750 credits.
- In 1 hour you've made 45k credits.
- In 1 day you've made 1.08mil credits.
- In 1 year (minus down time) you've made 378mil credits.
- At $6 per million you've made $2268.
- You've spent $140.
That's not good money for most, but there are some unscrupulous characters that multiply that by 1000. Someone will always take advantage of a system ![]()
So, they way they destroy the economy is to drive prices up since there are more Credits to be spent on the server.

LOL wow pushing more credits into missions or drops on corpses will only increase the problem cause there are more credits that the ebay sellers can get to.
Eliminate the ability to tip and you solve everything. No one is adversely affected accept ebay sellers who can't /tip.
Give everyone the ability to set a /covercharge like the entertainers do with a cap of 500 credits, this is what they are left with, why not everyone else??
You have rare loot, sell it to vendors like you would in real life.
This is a terrific solution, what is adversely affected by this?

The only people that would oppose such a move are gonna be people who profit from the ebay, lets face it who wouldnt want cheaper prices onitems?

Again, entertainers have a cap on their /covercharge in case you didn't know, problem solved.
The vendor problem is just as easily fixed when people aren't able to afford their prices and most players aren't going to bother with the skill required to get a vendor and place it, this wouldn't survive at all.

I have huge storage of cash but basically nothing I need to spend it on. I have never sold on ebay. SOE was talking about setting up a forum to do cash and item exchanges to avoid the ebay problem. But til they do that and then crack down on the ppl selling on ebay this is never going to help or solve the problem. The ppl on ebay either need ingame cash right now or dont want to wait and earn it. It is capitalism at it best and worst. I have know a person making about 2k per month rl cash from playing these games and selling it for cash. Not saying I approve of that but it what going to happen until SOE does what is in there power to do.
1. cripple the ebay ppl by buying it themselves and crashing those accounts
2. set up a ingame system so it can be regulated
If they do these two items or just really enforce item one. either way would certainly slow that aspect of the game down.
It is just stupid to get rid of ingame tips or money transference via trade window. SOE tracks every credit that is exchanged between toons so it really not that hard to find who the credit farmers are and ban them.

When someone sells a million credits on ebay for 6 bucks, it drives the prices in swg-land through the roof.
This is simple math and I am not sure why the Dev's refuse to fix this.
If someone is getting 6 US dollars for every million swg credits, then the drive for the greedy is to make more credits through selling loot or higher vendor prices so they can thereby makemore cash.
Even if you are just getting credits to afford that rare item, the item is being sold so they can afford something else that eventually rolls down to the "ebay dealer" who is getting his real life cash for credits.
We all suffer in this when people get away with this crap.
Ok, you do realize that the six million somone buys on Ebay already existed in the game right?
It doesn't just mystically appear out of nowhere and suddely add 6 million credits to the ecoomy. Somone went out and earned it legitamately, then sold it.

/watch; (accept cover charge)
/watch;
/watch; (accept cover charge)
Repeat as needed.
tip and covercharge only? thats stupid. the ebayers would just do something else so stupidly simple to get around it. like require buyers to have a vendor set sale price on a unlocked container at the price that they want to buy from the ebay seller. Seller goes there buys it and walla..
The even more stupid part is you think that will solve it so much that you keep peppering the thread with lame reasoning.
Face it, you want the ebayers to stop selling, then stop buying.
Other rational is to have the economy take it back at the same rate it can give it out. The ebayers will exist still, but it will be curtailed somewhat, at least the rising prices will be forced down.
Oh how about decaying money... say maybe every month 5-10 percent of total amount disappears.
just throwing ideas, might be a good one maybe not.

Why it may seem that ebay ruining the economy it is not!! I'm a merchant and Crafter. I buy low and sell high. I started with nothing but the loot items i had in my house then started trading on the forums then selling in my shop. The economy is driven by supply and demand. EX: premiums were selling for 2-3mill. months ago. once they stopped dropping regularly they went up to 4ml. The respec, double xp and other things caused players that stopped, slowed down or in the race to be jedi in the village rapidly increased and caused a influx of jedi.
This time frame made the demand for premiums high , but no supply. now that they have stopped dropping the premiums have gone up to 8mil.
The reason why the economy is bad is because
1. missions max is 9k roughly compared to 36k mission one guy could do on dath with rancors
2.Doctors/Combat medics/ have gotton means of real money making taken away.
3. Crafting has become more complicated. and material scarce with all the changes.
4. the game has become more combat base therefore the items needed for combat are more AA's CA's and loot for slices or components ans stuff
Now the economy is fine by my part and others that are making millioins on all type of things. Chefs, BE, DE, and some others aare making good money. The CU and time itself in the game from other publishes hascaused a change in how we do business.Crafters are nolonger the big ballers in the game. Now average players including BH can capitalize on the market.
Ebay has always been here with credit buyers. If you look at the number of players on each server compared to the ones buying credits is not much at all. a mere 8% or less propblably. Truthfully the only things are high are the rare items. So i think your problem is not with ebay; It is with your abilty to be competitive. We must take a look at us and how we do things before we blame others. You cause your success by doing what successful players do. I started merhant to make money a whole year after started playing because i stayed broke. I move with the times and make it work for me.
My friend change has come and we must all change with the times or be extinct like the dinosaurs.
