The hologrind was idiotic. Grinding is NOT content. If the holos did anything they should have opened quests that actually revealed aspects of the force and some time gated process of adventure and discovery. Perhaps something that might even have been..... GASP....FUN!
The hologrind as a way to become a Jedi without a fully fleshed out idea of what a Jedi was suppose to be in the game was uninspired. Too much time and energy was spent on this while the GCW, battlegrounds, and combat / artisan classes floundered and many, many very good, creative, dedicated players bailed out of the game.
I must play devils advocate here
You say grinding is not content. I agree with that. However, isn't the village just a bunch of grinding too? The only difference is you don't have to change professions every other day.
To be honest, I felt the hologrind was better at stopping people from being Jedi. For many, it would be harder to accumulate the credits/resources to master some professions than it would be to mind numbingly grind out their weapons/combat xp a million times. I personally stopped trying at around profession 13 and opted to wait for the village. The village was much easier because I didn't have to butcher my template anymore.
Edit: typos

While it's true that you HAD to learn something about the profession to get XP in it (how to craft in crafting profs, healing in medic profs, etc) - it is (and was at the time) insulting to compare that level of knowledge about the profession to those who were actually doing that profession because they wanted to do it.
I was Master Armorsmith (for all of about 30 minutes) at the same time there were only a few others on the server, with well established reputations and well established prices, etc. If I had started farming out junk composite or whatever and clogging up the bazaar with it (I didn't do this, I'm hypothesising) then I would bring the whole profession down as a result.
As for Combat Medic (another one of my Holo profs), I just sat in a friends house and macro healed him for hours on end while he macro'd "Roll to Standing" (which took health to do). I didn't craft anything up to and including getting Master Combat Medic, I didn't have the slightest clue how the profession worked.
I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone at the time in grinding the professions in this way. Anyone who truly believes those that were grinding Holos either cared or spent any time learning that profession above the basics of how to grind it (there were countless guides around at the time for each profession of how to grind it) is deluding themselves, or those people doing it weren't bothered about getting Jedi anyway.

Well as a player base, we asked for a quest based system, and when a poll was taken on whether we should know each step towards becoming a Jedi, the majority answered yes, so here we are.
Shhhh man, whiners hate to have the truth pointed out to them. Makes me want to necro the thousands of combat upgrade wish lists from pre patch 9. Alot of these kids started playing last month, just forgive them. Alot of us remember the past, we dug our own ditch.
People would be stood outside Coronet begging, even paying people to train them.

I was just curious when thinking back on it, was there ever a pattern to the Holo grind?
Meaning like what each profession your holocron told you, would it lead up to another profession that you had to guess at to unlock? Was there ever a pattern that you could guess correctly?
No one has yet found a pattern - it does appear to have been random.
On the subject of the gaming "enjoyability" of the hologrind system, like everyone else I can only truely speak for myself.
Looking back on my grind of thirty one (31) professions - the only professions I did not master were BH and Politician - I can say that I did, overall, enjoy it and I learned so very much about the game and saw it from, well, thirty one different angles, if you like.
Most fun for me was Bio-engineer (DNA sampling was always fun) and the combat professions. The crafting professions gave me carpel tunnel syndrome. And despite what Bhozar may tel you,I certainly did not enjoy toasting the poor Greater Sludge Panther to practice my wound healing...
The village seems to me (never did it) just a grind with a place to go at the end.
Profession number 31 - Ranger for me at Lakeview village, Dantooine, Eclipse server. Boy did I sleeep well that night.

The Hologrind was wonderful for producing knowledgable and experienced jedi. They should have just added the village to it...sans grind.
Why? Because you had to do it? Outside of myself most of the hologrind Jedi are elitist whine babies that have visions of grandeur about some imagined golden past. Really the hologrind murdered the game and the only left-overs from it are people like you who want all the new players to suffer like you did. The village is here and it's real, deal with it and read my sig!

I didn't feel that it was suffering, I feel that I have a more throuogh understanding of the game because of it. This might explain why you disagree with me on most things. You never did 20 professions to understand the nuances of how all the professions interract.
