My concern is that jedi will become too common. The original design stated that they should remain rare due to continuity. The proposed replacement for permadeath doesn't sound like anything that will keep jedi rare. No matter how you twist and turn this matter, it either boils down to a) making it very difficult to unlock the jedi slot or b) making it very difficult to bring a jedi character to "high levels".

Forgot to add and someone brought this up about the Epic Quests in EQ.

I DO NOT want them to resemble the EQ Epic quests, those were too dependant on uber guilds and large groups. Opening the FS slot should bea solo and personal process and it should be doable by all professions, including crafters. That means no uber combat quests...

Also, it's not about the Holocron grinding so much, it's about everything I did before we even knew it was nothing more than Mastering Professions.

It's about the 3 weeks I spent North of Mos Eisley looking for the Mark of Altruism.

It's about the 16 days I spent North of Mos Eisley after that looking for the Mark of Intellect.

It's about the 10 days I spent between Bestine and Wayfar dealing with a bugged Quest Mission.

There's more time and effort invested in becoming a Jedi for me than just the Grinding.

Im curious as to how the devs are gonna implement a quest based system to attain jedi. once someone finds the npc that gives the quest its gonna be camped like nothing we have ever seen. and how will the proffesions we have done already be recognised in this quest based system? I have faith that will find a way to do it but if they dont do right then they are gonna have a lot of screaming/crying players to deal with. the changes havent even taken place yet and there is already people canceling their accounts cause they dont want to change to different maybe even easier system to attain jedi. I for one am looking forward to this change as proffesion grinding is a terrible way to unlock a jedi character.

I spent just as much time trying to get those badges (I only got intellect), but at that point we didn't understand how to unlock so that was just a guess. No one told us to go play in the desert for weeks.....we just hoped that was part of unlocking the slot....and it wasn't

So to compare that you would need to compare any time or actions taken by anyone that had a theory which isn't plausible.

Some things I'd like to see in a new Jedi System

1. Less of a grind (The endless grinding is driving me nuts)

2. A new way of getting holocrons. The holocrons are still insanely hard for any non-combat class to get one, and this is effectively shutting out a good portion of the population.

3. Make holocrons No drop, No trade items. This would allow people that truely want them to go look for them. This would eliminate people farming them for cash.

4. More developer feedback on the forums. To randomly take shots in the dark as to the system can have ill effects on the temperment of players. People begin to feel as the developers don't care, and thus we end up being a very hostile board.

5. Jedi issues need to be addressed faster and with more diligence then your average profession. Why? Because they can easily get messed up as far as balance goes.

6. If we are to keep the system as it is...the "Silent" profession should in some way reveal itself. Theres no excuse for having players master 20+ professions and call that a good system.

7. People in the same faction as the Jedi should NOT be able to attack him. This ruins any concept of having faction involved with the Jedi.

Lastly, my own personal opinion of the current system is that it was ill thought out. Why? Well, it forces players to go against their style of play. Second, it burdens other professions by having people who come into their profession with no desire to be there or in some cases respect for the profession. If you want a example of the overflow of people in a profession goto Coronet's Cantina. I also have to say that I am personally disappointed in the system, and feel as though it was done out of haste.

I think this system will work much better, the proffession system worked for a while to keep the numbers down but as I was grinding through professions I found that some professions I really grew attached to, like fencer, but now that my holocron says bounty hunter (which I am interested in doing also) I have to drop fencer cause of the skill points. If the path to Jedi becomes quest based, we will see alot more content added, dev pending more group play, and alot more purpose and story to the game than being able to play the entire game grinding proffessions without ever doing a single quest. I don't feel that me grinding any of the proffession that I have was a waste of time, each was a great way to experience more out of the game than I did without, however a quest based system is going to be a welcome addition to the game that has me very excited, I think the developers are taking a very positive step forward.

The only comment I feel strongly about isthere should be something done for thoose who have mastered tons beyond their silent holocrons like a few more clues to help find the quests

On a side note,I have a few thoughts one what they could do with holocrons, why not have the holocrons give you clues as to where to find the quests neccessary to open the slot. Obviously having someone sitting on a street corner in Coronet handing out jedi missions is a little weak, so let the holocrons help us find these NPCs.

For all the time doing those quests it does suck, but people did them on just rumors and it was nothing ever confirmed that they opened the slot. Now we know that grinding professions does eventually give you a slot. Myself I am working on profession number 13 and I have been silent for a while after mastering 4 elite holo professions to include merchant. Im just hoping that when they do implement the change they will allow those that are on the silent holocron to continue along the path by grinding.

Maybe the best way to do it would be just to stop holocron drops so that people would not be able to reliably continue grinding professions unless they are on silent atm. As far as the QUEST system goes its got its pros and cons but I pray to God that this doesnt become another EVERQUEST epic system. The epic quests were one of the worse things that they ever implemented from a guild leaders perspective. People would fight over rare spawns, join guilds only to get epic then quit, and all sorts of crap.

Personally I'd like to see the new method to unlock FS retain a Mastery requirement. Cut down the professions that must be mastered to 3, and allow Holocrons to reveal them all. Holocron grinders will still have some progress taken care of that way. Mix in a number of random assigned accomplishments from the game and I feel we're on the right track. The path to FS should definately be reminiscent of going after your Epic in Everquest.

I made a post about this before I knew Arjun was making one himself. Since this one will get more traffic, Ill repost it in here. Its just my thoughts on a possible idea.

I was thinking, and it would be kinda cool if they combined the quest with the profession mastering. for example.

Quest 1: Track down an NPC named (insert name here). NPC tracking is a ranger skill (tracking III or IV?) so you start up on Ranger.

Quest 2: A high ranking Imperial Office has been relocated to a different planet and is need of a house. Construct a large naboo house and give it Col. Clank. (Large housing requires Housing III or IV?)

Quest 3: Col. Clank is bored in his new house, find him and give him an exotice dance (or some other high-end, elite dancer dance).

Quest 4: Col. Clank is bored, and needs a firend. Build him a protocol droid with personality chip.

Anyway, you see where Im going with this. now obviously you would only be dabbling in each elite profession, but you can require 10-15 or so missions from each person. This would still require lots of time, and the items crafted would need to be created by you, to prevent someone making it already for you. This idea can be taken into great detail, and possibly be presented to a dev....what does everyone think? THis would at least make it someone fun to grind professions....at least more than it is now anyway.
