I am sorry people but I find this type of discussion extremely inappropriate! There are people in want of food and water in my own country and we are having debates on the price of gas. Please give it a rest and maybe walk to your local Red Cross and donate blood or a little cash or something. Beleive me, if you remember that the people in Lousiana and Mississippi are facing you would have to put itin a better perspective.

You complain about gas while they need drinking water!

Have a nice day!

Hard to say if the boarding, grooming, and feeding costs would be less, lol

you guys in the states still have the cheapest prices for fuel in theweatern world...- over here in the UK prices per liter are 2.5 times higher than what you pay due to taxes on fuel

Hrmm yea and how big is the UK? How many miles/km does it take you to get to work?

Unless you are driving a fuel efficient car (at least 30 MPG) then you are missing the point. Sure, the US hasn't spent the money on mass transit that works (only the DC Metro comes close to the London subway, etc.), but the average person in the US drives to work alone in a vehicle getting 15 MPG or less.

We all seem to need a huge SUV because it looks cool, when there is really little reason for it. Even with a large family, what is wrong with a station wagon? Most people will try to say that they need to "haul stuff from the store" (My wife and family included), but delivery of items will still save a ton of money over purchasing an urban assault vehicle.

The British don't drive a 1/2 MPG vehicle because it costs too much AND the Europeans seem to have more of a sense of community. In the US, we tend to think of ourselves as more important than the community.

most people take public transprot to go long distances over here - the train system can take you most places you need to commute. and yes i agree - american "cites" are much more spread out than UK ones are. heheh The Uk has 1/5 to 1/6 the population of the states crammed into an area smaller than texas

Only the large metro areas have developed mass transit systems. People like me who live in rural areas have no other choice than to drive.

Ok, how do we generate the electricity to charge the batteries?

1. Solar-take up too much "pristine land" (panel array the size of Vermont to power the US for its current need).

2. Wind-chops up too many birds.

3. Hydroelectric-dams up too many rivers and ruins too many habitats.

4. Nuclear fission-problem with waste/unintentional release.

5. Coal-very dirty but abundant.

6. Nuclear fusion-clean energy forever, but a "pipe dream".

7. Hydrogen fuel cells-need one of the above to generate it.

8. Hydrocarbons-cheap, somewhat dirty, running out...
