Thread: Please Remove The CL System

Character level has made this game less than what it was. Please do away with it in favor of a skill based system that allows more flexibility, less obviousness as to a character's skill level. I don't want to know the CL of everone I meet on the street...heck, I don't really want to know the level of the npc or mob I'm facing. Cons are ok, but I could do without them too. It ruins the emersiveness of the game, and now, when I see someone with a CL 50, I already know I can beat them. I miss the mystery of the not knowing. Please remove the CL system.

It should be obvious by now that the SWG devs are trying to make this game look more and more like EQ2 every day. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the reason for this is, as someone has already said, that SOE is trying to come up with a common software base from which to develop both games.

From a management and bean-counter perspective that might make sense. But by not only its content, but by its very nature, SWG is totally different than EQ2. It'd be like trying to develop an automobile using the parts scounged from a horse-driven carriage.

The sad part is: we the players and customers have no influence on this whatsoever.

The CL system, IMHO, is the root of all problems. Not the fact that levels exist per se, but rather the damage multipliers in PvE and stigma associated with being non-80.

It completely killed off Crafting/Combat combo templates.

It ruined any excitement or purpose for wild exploration and experience. Wild creatures are rarely near enough to your own level to make killing them either exciting, challenging, rewarding.

It bound every character to the mission terminals for leveling.

Scores of problems when mixing level-based combat system with a profession-based skillset. A CL80 Pistoleer/Rifleman who wanted to start being a Fencer would have to kill CL80 mobs with a 25 DPS baton, or otherwise get no XP.

Encounters have become predictable.

Broke most all existing loot tables.

etc.

Because they have no vision of how this game should be.

BINGO!!!

Already DC comics have sold SOE the rights to develope and maintain a MMOG based on the DC comics and superhero's within that 'universe'. What better way to make MMOG's if you have a common graphics engine, combat system, quest system, map layout and overall content system. It's like FPS games using the Unreal engine for the games.

Cookie cutter MMOG's is where SOE is heading and maintaining MMOG's like that is much easier than trying to maintain 3 or 4 with different systems for each one.

For the most part I agree. This CL system is annoying and I would love to see it go. I do like the chevrons on the boss mobs though, lets ya know if you're gonna have a fight on your hands.

yes i need to agree with you, but...

there is a reason why they put this clvl into game, they are trying to "improve game" into more understand system to some players

it is sad, but true is that they prefere to let player see a creatureLevel of oponent and tell you everything about it, and you have no chance to... explore NPC/Player skill by your own trie, it was soo cool in old system, when you know that Nightsister will hit you more than you can take so you bring a group down there... but at least you tried it, learn from it, now all of that is away cause you can see into what combat you are going in

you just find new creature, and see that it is lvl5.. ? bah... just go away.... yes, all exciting from traveling and discovering, testing is gone

it is same like WorldOfWarcraft where you can see creatureLevel so you know in which location you are, and if y ou will be killed by that mob or not

this game become to more simple and understand game than before, that's fact, some of them like those changes, some not, i hate it cause i like to learn from game and not to see everything on screen.. i like explorations, testing diferent creatures etc.... but some players don't like it, they are too afraid of defeating... i'm sure that those new players will be not able to understand old descriptions like protection agains stun = 60% etc... it should looks to them too hard, thats why we have here simple solution where everyone know which number is higher is more dangerous and better than you

i don't like it, because i everytime have biggest fun to try and kill various animals and see which one beat me, than i just come back and tried it again while i buy new weapon, or learn new skill, or bought new set of armor..... all of that is now just... in my sweet memories and lot of screenshots

you wanna know why they wont...because they ripped off every aspect of WoW. I hate that game but when I was watching my girlfriends little brothers play it I was amazed to see how much of it that SWG ripped off. From the toolbar "Cartoony" icons to the combat level and even the stupid purple xp appearing at the top of the mobs heads. Its a shame that this game turned from a unique game into just another MMO. This was my first mmo game and I liked it cause it was different. Now its the same crap that made stay away from EQ and all those other nerdy games. SWG has become WoW and all I can say is WOW does it suck
