Thread: Jedi being the PvP Profession.
/agree... mostly
The focus on Jedi being a PvP only profession, and content for BH play has partially ruined that aspect of the game (my opinion).
It would be nice if Jedi progression was more tied to content rather than a continuation of grinding. Can it really be impossible to desing a progression system that varries with level and profession? I mean it is 2005 and everything.
I don't care if 80% of the population is Jedi, that doesn't change the fact that you have to first grind out a viable "regular" template, go through the months of village phases, and then grind 20-36 million Jedi XP, depending on if you go with a dabble or double-mastery template. Sure, progressing through the Jedi profession is faster now due to these spin groups, but guess what? So is progressing through regular professions. So the fact still remains: it still takes that much longer to grind a fully templated Jedi Padawan as opposed to grinding a fully templated "regular" character.
Hopefully our correspondent will make sure that in the end, the risk vs. reward exists. I've been hoping for that risk vs. reward for over a year now, and I still have hopes that someday it will exist. The lightsaber and sparkies and lightshow from healing and Force buffs definitely isn't enough "reward".
So, ask yourself this: Why by a Jedi when you could be more powerful as TKM/Master Swordsman/4000 Doc?
Basically, right now I thnk SOE is just testing how far they can push the Jedi community before they all start cancelling their accounts.

What if SOE decided to start with your account? I mean. Just to get rid of one jedi? im sure you would not appreciate it, if you like SW and playing jedi. So, why do you say that SOE should do this to other?
Im all for free flow of jedi. It should be balanced to other elite professions, and it should take as today 3-6 months getting jedi. There should not be any forced PvP. And everyone should get a 2nd character as a 2 year vet reward, so they do not need to go jedi.
If this happend, jedi would balance itself: there would not be any screams from BHs and Jedi about imbalances, because imbalances only shows itself in PvP. And since its so difficult balancing jedi and BHs agains eachother, the only PvP should in the future be between non-jedi (GCW) and Between jedi (FRS). easy balance. no anguish screams and no more unhappy people.

just wondering why after a year and half of jedi being in game this is all of a sudden a major issue? what did i miss here? why are all these post showing up more frequently than jedi ruined gcw post..and all of a sudden too. what the hell happened?
i think it has always been the underlying issue. Theres not much difference between those old posts and these newer ones.

Kind of like someone coming to live in your country but expecting you to change your ways for them. They are the "carebear" or mature non-pvp types.
I dunno...
I don't like it though. I can't say I'm 100% happy with pvp in general in SWG - I like pvp but it's not implemented very well. People can group up and kill pikets and get xp together, have a laugh, buy weapons and other items from eachother and then meet in a pvp situation later. I wonder how many people choose not to kill the enemy because... well, they're friends.
I prefer the scenario in other games where you can't even group up, trade (, or in some cases even talk!) with the enemy so that people are 100% committed to the side they choose. Not that I'm suggesting they do that with SWG but it does have it's appeal.
As it stands it's almost impossible to roleplay the GCW. In some other games with open pvp (everyone is permanently pvp enabled) there is no official war to worry about and so players make their own alliances andenemies amongst themselves.
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone will) but isn't SWG the only game where there is an official war going on, has pvp, and yet players can freely group, trade, talk with the enemy?

yes..i realize that..but whats up with it now..why the sudden onslaught of them? in my own experience most people i know start off feeling that jedi shouldnt have to pvp...cause of the simple truth that losing xp sux. but as they gain level and eventually finish their template they realize it was part of the experience and could learn from it and teach others what they learned.and most came to accept it..sort of a right to passage kinda thing.so it was never a HUGE issue with getting it completely removed..it was more of a get it fixed. its just odd that theres so many posts like this all of a sudden.
