There have been many many posts regarding this subject and i have posted in alot of them. I have said many things trying to make a point. Some were valid some were not so valid. Some points were only a way to flame back to those that flamed me. But i really think this point is important (and of course i would being that i made it LOL.)

Ask your self this. What happens when everyone ends up becoming a jedi, even when jedi is supposed to be the end game and or alpha profession that is 1.5X stronger than any other profession?

We will become weaker and weaker because 1) We will all be 1.5x stronger as a regular profession making us all 1x stronger than each other and 2) The jedi profession is being judged on its relation ship to regular professions and to each other.

Why did this come about? Why is jedi being judged on its relationship to other professions?

Its because of the pvp aspect of the profession. To level the playing field SOE had to create some type of balance to eliminate theabuse of power that was given to Jedi in the past. Ultimately this has pushed this game into an online Star Wars version of Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. Think about those two games. Then think about SWG now. What do you see that is simular? Basically you have different named professions with basically simular moves just about as powerful. Think of the characters in Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Those characters were about as powerful as each other with just basically the same moves having different names. I' ve heard it said that the Jedi profession has been reduced to its current state because people cried to make it easier to achieve, or that because "carebears" cried about not wanting to pvp. I say its because of the very nature of pvp that it has been reduced to its current state.

If pvpcontinues to bethe main focus of this profession then it will continue to get less and less powerful. No new content will need to be added. Once we all have a jedi then there will be no need for npc's, quests, buildings. If pvp remains the focus of this profession all we will need is one planet that is nothing more than an open battle field where we can have it out with each other all day. Pvp requires no plot, no quests, no storyline, no new content, to maintain. PvP should be a bonus portion of this game for those that want to have some friendly compition. It should have never ever become the focus.

Is this really what we want the game to become? A twisted Star Wars version of Street Fighter?

How do we solve this problem and move forward making Jedi powerful andalpha again?

1) We need to move away from this mind set of dwellingon how things were.

2) We need to move away from this mind set that jedi need to be rare.

3) We need to move away from this mind set of Risk vs Reward.

Those days are gone and lets face it they are not coming back and rightfully so. This is after all Star Wars and as long as jedi is obtainable you should better believe any one that plays this game is going to work to achieve it. Does that mean Jedi should be easy to obtain? No it doesnt. But there should be a greater reason to obtain it.

We need to push for Jedi to move away from being PvP driven or in other words Street Fighter driven. We need to push for Jedi to be powerful and special because they will need to be that way inorder to complete the quests, storylines, plots, and content that should be unique to the profession as it is the end game profession.

Imagine if you will that a Jedi in this game would need to have the skills and power level to defeat6 CL 111 mobs during a quest,all at the same time, in order to progress in the ranks of jedi knighthood.Would said Jedi need to be more powerful than is currently possible? Or imagine if there is a speciall quest that comes out that has some awesome reward that any player can receive where again you have to defeat 6 CL 111 mobs in order toobtain the reward item. Who, are friends thathave regular professions going to callupon? Would a jedi need to be much more powerfull then is currently possible so that friends would call upon them?

Does this mean that all quests need to be geared towards jedi only? Of course not. There should be unique quests, content, plots, and storylines that are geared towards each and every profession individually. But the end game quests, the absolute most difficult quests should be geared towards jedi only as it is supposed to be the end game. And those end game quests, story lines, content, and plots should require a skill set and a mastery of that skill set that is much more powerfull than a regular profession.

Why does any Jedi need to be more powerfull then now when we are judged and compared to a regular profession in regards to pvp.

We dont. There is no need. There will always be a need for balance, fairness, even playing fields when the focus of this game remains to be pvp driven. Again as i said we need nothing more than an open battle field, were we can spam street fighter moves that basically do the same thing with diffent names inorder to PvP. The focus remaining pvp is what will ruin the game and kill the fun and stop the need for new content. Have we seen this happening at all?The focus of pvp will never let jedi or any profession to reach its full potential as we will forever need to be judged by our strength and weakness between each profession.

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

I ask again show me any SOE documentation tha states that Jedi is a PVP profession, 1. Jedi as a profession is exactly what each player that unlocks and pays his $15.00 a month wants it to be and not a single one of you can tell anyone of them any different. Some Like PVP, Some like PVE and some like a mixture of PVP/PVE. now lets examine the JEDI for a moment.

PVP constantly proving that your better thqan the next guy is mastery of others. this is a darkside trait not a light. so if Your playing a lightside jedi and going around challenging players to duels you should go IMP and roleplay properly.

A Jedi uses the force for defense, Never attack

So to all you Imps out there claiming PVP, i have no problem with your darksideview of the Profession.

Your going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view

THE JEDI CODE

There is no emotion;
There is peace.
There is no ignorance;
There is knowledge.
There is no passion;
There is serenity.
There is no death;
There is the Force.

The Sith Code

Peace is a lie
There is only passion
Through passion I gain strength
Through strength I gain power
Through power I gain victory
Through victory my chains are broken
The Force shall set me free

Decide for youselves, Roleplay well, But quit telling other players how they should spend thier money.

ok, ether you read his post, and just didnt understand it. or you just glanced through it , and made this statment. your statment is the exact thing he is talking about. centering jedi around pvp only is what is killing and numbing down the profession. what he is talking about is bringing jedi back up to were it belongs, by elevating it above pvp to make it something more than just and form of "unreal tournament" or "quake", or any of those other linear first person fighters/shooters that grace game store shelves.

i agree with the OG poster in his statement. however, i find that the shear fact that jedi is "powerful", in the strength and "combat" area's of the game, is the main reason why so many people lean towards it for pvp aspects. i too think jedi should be more than what it is and more "powerful", but a different type of "powerful". also certain points need to be addressed as well,such aslooting, or others will draw to the conculsion that people will take it up just to get good loot and what not, which i agree to even though i myself might not do it.

this is why i feel that jedi should be no more "powerful" than any other profession in the game "as far as strength and combat goes". thats why those who love the game just for its pvp aspects can do so with just a normul profession and move some of the focus away from jedi and them being a pvp class profession. also this will leave just the true die hard jedi fans to make jedi for what they should be and not just for pvp.

IMOtheFRS was the real thorn in the jedi profession because jedi were already on there way to becoming justpvp oriented due to the bh vs jedi system. then theFRS gave them even more "combat" oriented power by killing each other and not just bounty hunters. this idea on paper more than likely sounded great in its concept phase, however when you put it in the hands of the players you then see what they did with it. im sure this is why theFRS was turned of after being abused, becuase it was leaving from what the developers intended for it to be. instead of it become a sort of ranking club for the jedi ranks it became a quest for more and more "power" to remain the top dog in pvp to (as the kids say) "pwn all".

so i do totally agree with your assesment of the situation and the reason why things are becomingdangerously pvp oriented to remain true to what it means to be a jedi. i disagree that they should be more powerfull. im sure that we all know the old saying "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutly".

Nice post abbink! Can't say I agree with everyword, but it is rare that a player can put together an intelligent post on this forum instead of whine "they nerf my jedi...precu rox...pre9 was better...nerf nerf nerf." Good to see you make true effort and think through your idea of how the game should be. You gave me something to think about, I'll say that.

I repeat...very nice post!

I WOULD agree IF it was not Star Wars.

Jedi in SW is uber or it's not SW.

Conclusion jedi need to be removed from PvP - jedi should not be able to attack non-jedi, only non-jedi should be able to attack jedi and take the risk of getting owned. Also jedi should fight jedi mostly as we also have seen in the movies or fight whole groups alone. If there is a jedi to kill, get there another jedi to kill and make jedi PvP to be a lockdown situation, like BH vs jedi is right now - also let 5 BH's share their mission up to 5 BH's(ohh dont forget to make jedi uber too lmao).

Ahh and I forgot make jedi rare.

That WOULD BE Star Wars, this game IS NOT right now.

Agree with several points and yes a good one, jedi should be removed from PVP. the jedi should not be able to challenge non jedi, but should be able to accept duels if challenged. there should also be serious penalties for jedi using sabers/powers within NPC cities such as automatic tef's or being hunted by imperials, and make lightsabers contraband much like sliced weapons are.

to abbink yes i agree with 1,2,3 and we also need to get away from im a pre patch 9, pre or post cu jedi, we are all jedi playing in the same boat it will only get improved when we all work togather towards something we can all be satisfied with

i think in order to help the illusion of being rare, jedi should be made to were we simple could not equip our saber's androbe's and go into a city. if we tried we would be warped to the city limits apone the shuttle landing and not be able to come in till we un equip them. as far as a title over our heads, well, i really dont think that should matter as you have the opption in your control panal to turn that off were you cant see it your self.

now, with that being said, i feel that with the exseption of faction npc's you should have free range outside the city limits. no matter were you are and what your doing, as long as you are outside the city limits you can do what you want with no trouble.
