complaint:jedi hurt the community by being too self sufficient
my response: jedi should be, for the most part, self sufficient. However, certain things should ALWAYS be a necessity. Jedi, as well as everyone else, should regularly need the services of a doctor, droid engineer, dancer/musician, and bio-engineer. The other crafting profs would be utilized at lower levels (guns to help leveling or a thin armor for some protection at padawan). I think there are several core professions (doctor, dancer, droid engineer) that need to have more use by all players. Jedi should be able to circumvent some of these professions at higher levels provided they have the proper template. i think jedi should not have the ability to heal wounds... luke couldn't, anakin couldn't... why can players?
Jedi Healers. Also, Luke often healed wounds of people...Mara Jade being the most often. Let's talk about other professions that benefit from Jedi: the jedi never healed any wounds or damage in any movie. luke required a doctor to heal his wounds on hoth just as anakin needed a doctor to heal his wounds
Read a book. I suugest the Thrawn series, which has been adopted by Lucas and is offical SW content.
- Doctor: Jedi still get buffs, and most of us still need wound healing from time to time
the tip rate to docs and dancers is about 10-25% depending on the day. i know this from being both a doc and a dancer.
And...no more or less than other professions
- DE: Umm..I have like 5 droids...not to mention the flight computers etc
no one relies on DE's for anything. thats more of a general problem with the DE profession
Has been a problem since day 1...only people that use DE's now are BH's and a few Dancers or Medical types...BH's keep them afloat though.
- Dancer/Musician: We get buffs too
again... the low tip rate of these professions makes them less viable than other supporting professions. saying that you use them does not mean you are contributing to the economy... you are contributing if you tip dancers/doctors 100% of the time.
My first profession was dancer..so yes, I tip ATK dancers 100% of the time..afkers get squat unless I'm forced
Bio-Engineer: We still use stims and BE Clothing
again, this is a profession with a limited resale of items. BE clothing can still be worn when broken and after the first sale is hardly ever purchased again. im a tailor... i know.
I use a lot of stims...a LOT of stims. Plus, they sell to chefs too.
- Tailor: Most of us wear clothes besides out robes...see above
see above + the most expensive non BE item a tailor sells should not be any more than 10,000 credits. your occasional purchase of a 1k sunguard or a 2k jacket does not make a dent in the overall economy. Other combat professions regularly need 500k suits of armor and 5 million credit rifles.
I require 6 million credit premium pearls/crystals. So? I am a girl, so I buy a lot of clothing because I like to change. The problem is that everyone feels that they should be rich, and that's just not the case unless you can provide to the community a service that is unique.
- Bounty Hunters: They provide the SEA's that help us...and crystals sometimes
good point, although i think loot is generally over-valued... thats a different discussion for a different thread though.
Of course it is....for now.
- Smuggler: Good for Faction Points and Spices
you could just as easyliy AFK faction farm. Spices have a low profit and and dont sell for much.
Seriously, they aren't being hurt by the jedi population
- Chefs: We consume MORE foods than most as we are 100% combat
you use the same amount as other combat profs. this is about the only profession that every combat prof needs on a day-to-day basis
I still say that jedi account for most of their sales...I'll ask Eerif about it.
- Artisans: We require resources, bikes, and a lot of other things (vehicle repair kits like mad)
not everyone gets their vehicle destroyed as much as you do.
Two things let me know I am being attacked by a BH...my lightsaber igniting and the screen shake from my bike exploting.
- Combat Medic: For doing high level caves, POI's, missions
everyone needs healers... but some jedi can heal themselves (i know master healer sucks and should be revamped)
All both of them
- Shipwrights: Most of us fly a lot too
i hardly see anyone in space, and, you can play the entire game without ever going into space (unless you wanted to go to kashyyk.
I spend a LOT of time in space...best place for a jedi to make money...or am I the only person who figured this out.
- Archetects: We use buildings as much as anyone else
unless you mine resources or re-decorate your house constantly your not really contributing to the architects business. in order to contribute like other profs do you need to make a purchase more than once in your career. as a crafter i have purchased over 40 different harvesters of various sizes and am looking to purchase another 8. again, this is a general problem with the architects wares being one time sales and thats that.
Since I am a Mayor, I will be purchasing a LOT of structures.
- Creature Handlers: Some of us get pets too...even just for fun...and we all need mounts sometimes.
another low value one time purchase.
- Armorers: We use PSG's
good point
- Image Designers: We all like a change
unless you tip them 100% of the time you are not contributing to the overall community.
You can't get ID'ed without paying
- Ranger: Good for hunting krayts
are you seriously saying this? area track is broken... has been for a long time.
I like to make the rangers feel special...don't pee on their gig
So..as far as I can tell, the only crafter/service professions that don't benefit from us are Weaponsmiths.
weaponsmiths should get screwed by jedi... not arguing that. but overall, jedi rely less on other professions than the more mainstream profs.

My major bones to pick on your responses are in these two statements.
1 - Smugglers can make a TON of money by selling crates of spices for 10-12k a crate. Let's take Booster Blue as an example:
15 units Copper 15 units Chemical 15 units Metal
So, a full run of 1000 items would be 15k of each... so that's 45k of the crappiest resources you can gather, because quality does not matter for spices at all. So, you can either harvest your own resources for dirt cheap, or buy them at .5-1 cpu. Still, let's say you pay 2cpu for all the resources...
2cpu x 45,000 resources used = 90,000 credits
Then, figure out how much you can make for that full run of Booster Blue:
1000 items / 25 to a crate = 40 crates 40 crates x 10,000 credits each = 400,000 credits
400,000 credits - 90,000 credits for cost = 390,000 credits profit
Not bad for using 45,000 units of resources...
Secondly, about chef... If you can point out a larger number of non-Jedi than Jedi that have 20 crates of different types of foods in their pack at one time... then you can win this arguement. Until then, I'm just going to chuckle at that statement.

Its good in theory, but my alt is a Master Smuggler. I have made a variety of spices, and on my server you would be doing well to move them off your vendor at 5k a crate. So take your estimate and cut it in half. Then figure it may take 1 week to 1 month to sell those 40 crates and you are not looking at a heavy money maker.

Ahem... ever view the George Lucas interviews on the VHS box set of the remastered episodes 4,5, and 6? Well... in the prelude interview to episode 5 Lucas states... "The only true Star Wars canon is in the movies". if we were going by the books where is the sun crusher? where is mara jade? we are going by the movies... i cede the fact that jedi MUST be able to heal damage... they simply need it in order to survive (unless the devs give them some sort of skill that drastically reduces stim cool down... which i would not be in favor of). but healing wounds should ONLY be available to a doctor.
- Doctor: Jedi still get buffs, and most of us still need wound healing from time to time

then you and only you are contributing to the dancer's community. if all jedi (if all players really) tipped like that this would be a completely pointless discussion.
Bio-Engineer: We still use stims and BE Clothing

premium pearls and crystals... which you could also get for yourself if you wanted to. and, as a tailor i know for a fact that the VAST majority of people buy one all black outfit and they never buy clothes again.
- Bounty Hunters: They provide the SEA's that help us...and crystals sometimes
good point, although i think loot is generally over-valued... thats a different discussion for a different thread though.

once again a one line idiotic "point" that isnt a point about anything.

are you stupid?!?!?!? most jedi are PvP'ers... of course PVP'ers will use buffs like no other... but the fact remains that these people would be buying the same amount of food whether they were jedi or not.
- Artisans: We require resources, bikes, and a lot of other things (vehicle repair kits like mad)
not everyone gets their vehicle destroyed as much as you do.

a politician and a jedi? that is a rare combination that the VAST majority of other's will not adopt. look at the difference in our posts. you too often refer to yourself... i on the other hand are arguing for complaints that arent even my own all for the sake of discussion. and what i get in return for a long well thought post is a one line non-sensical and ego-tistical retort. do both of us a favor and dont reply if you are incapable of providing feedback that is worth a damn.
- Creature Handlers: Some of us get pets too...even just for fun...and we all need mounts sometimes.
another low value one time purchase.

You can't get ID'ed without paying
yeah... you also cant trade without paying... yet... i still get jilted 1-2 times per week (usually for small purchases i could care less about)... but the fact is alot of people are generous and alot of people take advantage of that. unless someone tips 100% of the time they are not actually contributing to the community.
- Ranger: Good for hunting krayts
are you seriously saying this? area track is broken... has been for a long time.
I like to make the rangers feel special...don't pee on their gig
does this have a point?

and this relates to the topic how? we already know that... now lets talk about how jedi are less dependant on other professions.

i think the problem is that the only money making profs (asside from looting) are Weaponsmith, armorsmith, and (to a lesser degree) chef.
all the other crafters aren't really Nessicary and thus can't charge as much. Sure johnny tailor coudl sell a blue shirt for 3 mill, but nobody will buy it.
Its a problem and i dont see anyways to fix it. Nobody NEEDS clothes, nobody NEEDS droids, and nobody NEEDs BE things.
its like the real world. the market for Pencil-holders is alot smaller than the market for Cars.

Seems you're into a bit of ad-hominem there, "Don't listen to this guy,

complaint:jedi hurt the community by being too self sufficient
my response: jedi should be, for the most part, self sufficient. however, certain things should ALWAYS be a necessity. Jedi should be able to circumvent some of these professions at higher levels provided they have the proper template. i think jedi should not have the ability to heal wounds... luke couldnt, anakin couldnt... why can players?
After a long and drawn out arguement, we have decided that jedi spend as many credits in the community as everyone else...the only people hurt by jedi are weaponsmiths. We have also learned that this crafter doesn't understand that I have been more crafting professions than him and understand crafting far greater than he does. He is mad because he doesn't know how to make his wares better than the next guy's so he feels the pinch when jedi wear robes?
The biggest thing to damage crafters in this game has been the CU...followed closely by the Anti-Decay Kits. Of course, they know it's all the jedi's fault.

Yup. If an idea is good I care not about who has come up with that idea.
Seems you're into a bit of ad-hominem there, "Don't listen to this guy,
he's only CL1".
well before u flame me, maybe u should check out this guys other posts....hes never been a jedi, and calls for nerf after nerf after nerf
and once again, if your not a jedi why r u posting on our forums?

um... i never called for a nerf in this thread... in fact, i said "jedi should, for the most part, be self sufficient"
the only nerf's i call for is a greater dependence on a couple crafting professions... which i also mention that all professions should be more dependant upon them.
to date, i had an idea for one nerf... which wasnt even a total nerf... the idea was
reduce the jedi's current mode for power (the devs have given jedi a higher baseline) and replace it with a more diverse and useful skill set. This would mean that the true power in jedi lies in the tactical advantage you would get if you are skilled enough to use them. Any skilled player would love this! it punishes the respec and ebayed jedi and rewards your actual skill... not your grinding abilities.

Two words: Expanded Universe. And yes, you have Talon Kardde, Mara Jade, Grand Admiral Thrawn and other EU characters
in game. So, jedi heals.
Further:
Moving the goalposts a lot today, are we? You claim jedi is independant from all,
people point out that you are wrong and we get back:
>* Doctor: Jedi still get buffs, and most of us still need wound healing from time to time
>
>the tip rate to docs and dancers is about 10-25% depending on the day. i know this from being both a doc and a dancer.
Moved goalpost: Jedi uses doctors just as everyone else. No independence
if you dont tip your doctor/entertainer... your not really contributing to the profession are you... once again a general issue that is not jedi specific
>* DE: Umm..I have like 5 droids...not to mention the flight computers etc
>
>no one relies on DE's for anything. thats more of a general problem with the DE profession
Moved goalpost: Jedi uses DE same as everyone else. That no one is really relied upon by anyone (except BH)
is not jedis fault. No more independene from jedi than from anyone else.
not moving the goal post... i was stating the fact that no one has a reliance on droid engineers. it is a general problem that is a seperate post and topic. were here to discuss whether or not jedi rely on professions like other professions do. Can a jedi who does not see a crafter actually be successful? i contend that they can (it will be far harder granted) but it could be done.
>* Dancer/Musician: We get buffs too
>
>again... the low tip rate of these professions makes them less viable than other supporting professions.
>saying that you use them does >not mean you are contributing to the economy...
>you are contributing if you tip dancers/doctors 100% of the time.
Moved goalposts: Once again, jedi uses these professions and are as dependent upon them as any other profession.
The low tiprate and that no prof is really, really dependant upon entertainers has nothingg to do with jedi.
didnt move the goal posts as you put it... stating the fact that unless you personally tip each ATK entertainer each and every time you use them you are not really contributing. i also stated this is a global issue that is not jedi specific.
>* Bio-Engineer: We still use stims and BE Clothing
>
>again, this is a profession with a limited resale of items. BE clothing can still be worn when
>broken and after the first sale is hardly ever purchased again. im a tailor... i know.
Moed goalposts: Just as other profs uses BE clothing, and arent dependent upon having BE items, the same
applies to jedi. Jedi is no more independent from BE than any other prof. Wether BE is a wholesale
profession or not ius irrelevant. The claim was that jedi was independent from other profs.
jedi should be for the most part independent. they need a higher reliance on doctors (remove wound healing ability... i really dont care what book it is in... doctor's are a profession specifically designed for that purpose and no other. they should be the only one's who can heal wounds. jedi absolutely should be able to heal damage just as well as doc or CM)
> * Tailor: Most of us wear clothes besides out robes...see above
>
>see above + the most expensive non BE item a tailor sells should not be any more than 10,000 credits.
>your occasional purchase of a 1k sunguard or a 2k jacket does not make a dent in the overall economy.
>Other combat professions regularly need 500k suits of armor and 5 million credit rifles.
Moved goalposts: Just as other profs do not need to buy clothes, but does, so does jedi. No more, or less,
independency tfor jedi than for other profs. Prices of clothing has nothing to do with this.
using a tailor once in a blue moon is not a reliance
>* Bounty Hunters: They provide the SEA's that help us...and crystals sometimes
>
>good point, although i think loot is generally over-valued... thats a different discussion
>for a different thread though.
Loot being overpriced or not has nothing to do with independency.
what? i ceded the point... what was posted about bounty hunters is a good point of arguing that jedi are reliant. value certainly doesnt have anything to do with it... but why are you accusing me of being wishy washy for going off topic for a line?
>* Smuggler: Good for Faction Points and Spices
>
>you could just as easyliy AFK faction farm. Spices have a low profit and and dont sell for much.
Moved goalposts: This applies to all professions,m not only jedi.
but if you can farm the faction your not really reliant are you?
>* Chefs: We consume MORE foods than most as we are 100% combat
>
>you use the same amount as other combat profs. this is about the only profession that
>every combat prof needs on a day-to-day basis
And this, no more independecy than other profs because you're a jedi.
i never argued that jedi should have more reliance on chef. everyone uses chef an equal amount... i never stated differently.
>* Artisans: We require resources, bikes, and a lot of other things (vehicle repair kits like mad)
>
>not everyone gets their vehicle destroyed as much as you do.
Moved goalposts: Was this about jedi independency or not? This is totally irrelevant. Jedi need items, resources, bikes
and have bikes wrecked as often as non-jedi. Jedi is no more independent than other profs.
i have a combat alt... i have gotten my vehicle disabled once in 2 months of play. one vehicle every 2 months is not a dependance. if jedi do not have the ability to get their own resources..... THEY SHOULD!
>* Combat Medic: For doing high level caves, POI's, missions
>
>everyone needs healers... but some jedi can heal themselves (i know master
>healer sucks and should be revamped)
Moved goalposts: Jedi can heal themselves IF they have healer in their template. So can anyone that picks up novice medic.
And since everyone will need high-lvl healers for hard dungeons. Thus, jedi is not more independent than other profs.
>* Shipwrights: Most of us fly a lot too
>
>i hardly see anyone in space, and, you can play the entire game without ever going into space
>(unless you wanted to go to kashyyk.
Moved goalposts: Wether you see people in space or not, or wether you need to fly or not, is irrelevant.
If jedi want to go to tspace, they go to a SW. If non-jedi want to go to space, they go to a SW. Neither
is more or less independent than the others.
use is not a dependance... if you want to be another combat prof you MUST see a crafter at some point. jedi use crafter's by choice. you want the food, vehicle, or stim... you dont need it (although as said before, doing it without crafters would be much more difficult... though it could be done).
>* Archetects: We use buildings as much as anyone else
>
>nless you mine resources or re-decorate your house constantly your not really contributing to
>the architects business. in order to contribute like other profs do you need to make a purchase
>more than once in your career. as a crafter i have purchased over 40 different harvesters of v
>arious sizes and am looking to purchase another 8. again, this is a general problem with the
>architects wares being one time sales and thats that.
That is true. But guess what. Thats true for most profs. You get a house, you're done. You get your harvesters
as a crafter, you're set. They do not get destroyed unless you have no money for maint, and this is true
for all profs. So whereas jedi is a bit more unrelated to archies, so is most other profs as well. Nothing
jedi specific here.
the point made is that the occasional purchase is not being reliant. it is using the prof. a reliance is somthing like: bounty hunters cant be a bounty hunter without a droid engineer OR tailors cant make clothes without the services of a ranger... the point here is that jedi's use crafters in transit while other profs MUST use them.
>* Creature Handlers: Some of us get pets too...even just for fun...and we all need mounts sometimes.
>
>another low value one time purchase.
Irrelevant and moved goalposts: Jedi is as independent of CHs as everyone else.
transitory use of a profession is not a reliance. although CH is not really meant to be a money making profession.
> * Armorers: We use PSG's
>
>good point
Plus, one could argue that we cause a lot of armour sales (BH PvP) and that Jedi while not using armours,
neither does non-combat profs, but I ain't seeing you complain about Dancers not supporting the AS community.
dancer's arent a combat profession.
>* Image Designers: We all like a change
>
>unless you tip them 100% of the time you are not contributing to the overall community.
Irrelevant and moved goalposts: The same is true for every prof.
>* Ranger: Good for hunting krayts
>
>are you seriously saying this? area track is broken... has been for a long time.
This one I dunno about. AS and otheer crafters have use for rangers, but hardly anyone else, and
in this is jedi hardly unique.
>So..as far as I can tell, the only crafter/service professions that don't benefit from us are Weaponsmiths.
>
>weaponsmiths should get screwed by jedi... not arguing that. but overall,
>jedi rely less on other professions than the more mainstream profs.
No. When one ignores the moved goalposts and actually COMPARES jedi with other profs one sees that
jedi does not in fact rely less on other profs than non-jedi.
