Thread: Why exactly do you hate Jedi?

people hate jedi because everywhere you look there is a jedi. Jedi were meant to be at a very low number, even the head guy from swg said it himself. All you see are knuckleheads showing off their uber leet I pwn joo all sabers and duel for no reason other than being bored. The whiners and sploiters are the ones who have given us a bad name. Yeah its a game and its everyones right to show off but it would be nice to see more peeps act like jedi.

from an old post of mine

I hate jedi, I think it is the comformaty part. Everyone seems to want to be a jedi. Everyone seems to be human or Zabrak. I am a rodian, have a jedi toon, but never play it, here are my alternatives to reducing jedi population. Let people become jedi, just give other options.

I have a jedi

I never play it

I will be making him into a cloaker/master artisan or a defender/master artisan for jetpack crafting

I think there are too many jedi

I think there should be more options

wouldn't it be nice if there were other elite professions, or that SOE came up with a plan to utalize the second character slot for something other than another toon?

here are my ideas for NEW elite professions, some have been stated before, other are new

Mandalorian

  • you would need to jump through a few hoops to start quests to become Mando sensitive (like you do to get the old man)
  • these quests would include: killing DW overlord, completing foreman quest
  • your "village" is at the hutt palace. Boba gives out all quests
  • you must be MBH to become mandalorian (with some speech that it is in your blood, etc)
  • there are 16 trees at the village you can unlock, the mandalorian route only has 8, they are all combat, and 6 trees must be completed to "unlock". XP is traded in similar fasion, a new quest can be taken ever 2 weeks (as apposed to 3 in village)
  • mandalorian profession would have different skills/abilities that enhance you as a BH and combat toon. Enough options to give you variety

Crimelord

  • jump through a few hoops to become Crime Sensitive, lol
  • add Hutt casino to game
  • have 3-4npcs in casino to hand out quests
  • must be master smuggler or master ranger to start quests
  • 8 trees that you can unlock from quests, XP traded in in similar fasion to village, can take a mission every 2 weeks, need 6 trees to unlock
  • Crimelord profession gives new abilities and enhances old ones and you can train in new slicing abilities, stealth abilities, ability to take out and grant PC bounties and fun stuff like that
  • second character slot can be Hutt species

Force Sensitive Master

  • for those that complete the village but don't want a Jedi, just want another toon
  • you unlock second Character slot when completing 24 boxes
  • after completing exit quest, have option to not become Jedi and take title of FS master
  • a FS master can drop FS boxes and not lose second character slot
  • will need regrind FS boxes if dropped and decide want to persue Jedi path
  • different species available for second toon

My second toon species plan

  • To make these other nonJedi endgame professions cool and desireable, and the world more Star Warsy you can have extra toon be different species
  • Crimelord can have second toon be a Hutt, Jawa or Sandperson
  • Hutts get special abilities that are crime related
  • Series of Caves and bunkers put in on tat for sandpeople. Each bunker can house 50 sandpeople, you can declare residence and have one of rooms be your house to decorate
  • Jawas get giant sand crawlers that are also guildhalls, can not have any other residence
  • FS master professions have option of being: Ewok, Gungan, or any number of other professions

what do you think?

would be want to be a mandalorian?

would you become a crimelord if you could have a Hutt, Jawa or Sandperson alt?

would you skip Jedi and just be a FS master if you could drop FS skills (and be full template again), but have an ewok alt?

existing jedi would have a 1 time option of becoming Crimelord, Mandalorian, or FS master

Agree.

With 32 profession, it not only required time, it required quite a bit of credits for resources/ weapons/ etc.....

At least then you were forced to explore some of this game's content before you start your jedi grind. Now, all you have to do is become FS and grind your way to jedi. I've had new players ask me what's the fastest way to jedi; and w/ good reason too. Who doesn't want a second slot? And who wouldn't mind going jedi now?

You were at least forced to explore the game's different professions, all you need now is MBH, Master X combat profession, 4000 CM and you're good on capping XP on multiple weapons saving many trips.

For your first question:
People hate Jedi for a few reasons. Mainly becuase if your not a Jedi, its the 'cool' thing to do to hate them. And because every little thing that the Devs decide to 'tweak' gets blamed on us. They could give every player 1million credits, and somehow Jedi would be to blame.
Another reason is because they say we ruin the GCW. For as long as I have been a Jedi (post pub9/pre10 unlock, but of course didnt get it till pub10), Jedi have been BEGGING for our own Light/Dark factions. But that would most likely lead to a new FRS in the process, then people would cry that Jedi got their 'Third' publish (which isnt true but it helps them sleep at night I guess).
If people would wake up and see that instead of flaming/crying/whinning about Jedi and side with us to get the few things we want fixed, that would solve a lot of their problems. Of course if Im running thro 'insert city' and a Light Jedi attacked me, I wouldn't say 'hey, theres some SF people over there we cant fight', so you'll still see Jedi, they just won't affect your GCW.

Question #2:
Not possible. Unless they move all Jedi to their own server (my god you imagine the crying over that), or create a non-Force Sensitive server it can't be done now. You take away something someone worked hard/easy for, and you'll not only lose THAT player, but once word gets out you do customers that way, you won't have many new customers either.

For S*** and Giggles read this -
Saber Block - nerfed
AI - nerfed
Healer (all)- nerfed
FR - nerfed tomorrow
Force Resist- nerfed
Powers - never fixed, then he!! its gettin nerfed anyway (cloak snare)
Crystal/Pearls - nerfed

Thats just a quick-list by the way.

Jedi are a scape goat, pure and simple. Hating jedi is merely the cover for being jealous and immature. They have the idea that you need alot of cash to be a jedi. You don't. You can start from scratch with a CDEF pistol like the rest of us did and earn our cash. You can make a tailor or a weaponsmith or a dancer and go make items that people want to buy. You can save your money just like the rest of us did. You can make friends and join guilds and do just like the rest of us did. You can learn professions like the rest of us did, and follow the current steps to Jedi, just like the rest of us did.

Instead, people accost you in starports and ask for a million credits to get themselves started so they can hurry up and get Jedi too. They want you to babysit them in groups, take them to the areas to get their badges then kill Krayts for them so they can loot the pearls. They want everything NOW. They want to be jedi but don't want to put out any effort to gain it. They want the same badges, money, professions, friends and reputation that you have worked 2.5 years for in 6 weeks. They want to level in huge groups doing the minimum effort possible, and wonder why they die when they are on their own. They don't know how other professions work or how they can support orbe hurt.

Before Jedi, all the problems of the game were blamed on TKM/Smuggler/Pistoleers. Then it was Commandos were the bad guys. Then it was the Combat Medics were the reason we were all going to hades in a hand basket... If they removed Jedi from the game, it would be Squad leaders are the evil reason the game is a pile of crap. They blamed Doctor buffs for unbalancing the game, then just gave us permanent buffs. Be careful of what you blame for all your problems, they will nerf it. Myself, I blame the Devs, the real problems with this game. Now, if they get nerfed to oblivion, the game just might get better.

I had to quote 3 times because this is exactly it.

Also ones that dont care about Jedi are ex-Sims Online/Earth and Beyond or another 'not knowing about Star Wars' player.

I have to point out that based on somebody who started in December '03, I too did SOME of the Hologrind. To be specific:

  • Holo 1: Teras Kasi - Took me as a casual player 3 play sessions (Call it 7 hours)

  • Holo 2: Merchant - Longest one of the bunch - Took me 8 days. Amazing what selling ultra cheap goods did for rapid business. Also, having a Guild that entered my shop constantly paying the 1cpu repeatedly also helped.

  • Holo 3: Weaponsmith - Took me all of 3 days of constant manufacturing.

At that point, I stopped because I found I enjoyed the WS profession. Never bothered grinding another thing out because of that. But the point IS, look at the minimal time investment - That was a LONG grind? I quite literally after I dropped WS ground out Swordsman in another 3 days. Worst case scenario my 4th Holo would have been CH, BH or Ranger - And seriously, those weren't that long a grind either.

THEN the Village came out. Even WITH my free unlocks, I as a casual player didn't manage to get through the Village until the day before the CU. (April 23, 2005) And then again, AS a casual player - I still (Despite Double XP) am not quite Fully Temped. I suppose I COULD have AFKed the Trails and used the Respec upping..

Having experienced both, I rather preferred the Holo system within the Pre CU environment - I fully believe had I not paused to be a WS, i would have been a Jedi LONG befor the CU came.

And you got lucky that you had all the guild come and look at your shop, mastering merchant almost took me a month and took some longer, you also forgot to point out that you needed credits to even get to craft, not sure how the prices of resources are on your server but back then it was crazy on mine, still is even for crappy res, and not sure if you meant it took you 7 hours to master tkm if it did then you are a hardcore casul gamer also forgot to mention that you needed to teach skills since you had the app points too and that took a long arse time too lol i had to keep marksman 0001 during a lot of my holo grinding. Holo grinding was not fun at all most people quit after the 10th prof because they either couldnt afford to go on or just got way too bored. Like you said dude, even after you tried WS you found that you enjoyed that prof and stuck with it, that also happened a lot for people who did holo grind which would also make for less jedi

Oh, i don't deny that I got very lucky in both having a great guild AND getting fairly easy professions - I guess my point is, if I were a more hardcore gamer (7 hours was NOTHING - Buffs + really great VK + great armor + COB + meditate made TK a breeze) I could have blown through about any profession easily. Resources weren't a true factor, as I needed only certain types, no quality restrictionsand a LOT of repitition - I mined faster than I could use them up.

I just remember Pre CU as easier - Maybe not faster, but easier. We went from being able to Solo 90% of the game to needing to get a group to do it...

Phael'yn Maxlord
- I support Common Sense - Too bad it's in short supply.

Quote that sums up the current, flawed direction of SWG:
"No, I do everything solo and I see no reason why I should need anyone else"

1.The numbers of them

2.The way they play, I like the starwars univers. Alot of jedi(not all) spend their time waving their glowbats in starports

3.GCW, unless you are a combat medic or Doc you can forget being a part of GCW/JediWars, and even then get ready to be ganked by 10 jedi at the time.

4.Personal experience, and offcourse this stand on my own playing experience. Jedi is an alpha class profession, which in my eyes bring alot of "Alpha class" players into the jedi profession, meaning that the goal is more important than how you get there. In short, exploiting is allright. Again, just my personal experience.

5.Hate tells, I am a BH and have been so for ages. I get reported often and I get hate tells all the time. I try to act politely, but get griefing and even hate tells and what not from my marks friends/guildies. Again, my personal experience.

6.Camping/Cloaking camping, Alot of places jedi is making it impossible to do the DWB or Necrosis, because they are camping it and pulling agro while using cloak and force run. Thus destroying some good content for other people.

7.The nerf bat, the discussion on this is long and never ending, but it is my personal(yes just me) opinion that a fraction of the jedi community is constantly calling for nerfs of other professions. Again just how I see it.

8.General attitude, "We grinded for ages, why should we not be allmighty", most people just dont like that.

9.The "duel" exploit, if you are a jedi, is it really needed to go "duel" every person you go past that looks like a bh? being like that doesnt help alot on the jedi hate that is for sure.

10.I am imperial
