THESE are the new Changes? Whats Starwars about it?

I never did see someone in the flims having a blue Skull over his head,

or some kitty/Owl like thingy...

Ihoped for flowing hair, or Hair Ornaments..

I cant believe programmingthis was filled with more efforts,

than doing a new Hairstyle, or Something like Zabrak Tattoos

looking like scars...

Fine, that ID get the tents though, and maybe the new colors....

And i think the new ID-Menu wil help immensely.. but those Particle Effects

will be plain un-starwarsy and annoying...

LOL

Ok... ok everyone.. seriously.

When people start nitpicking about spelling and attempt to make themselves sound oh so very intelligent its time to move on.

We're done. It's over.

All the work has already gone into making these holomabobs so they are going to be in the game. That's it. End of Story. If you don't like it, piss off.

Oh, and I mean that in a loving and oh so constructive way.

I love reading the IDs replies to this thread. Has anyone else noticed that they added TERMINALS for image design. That means you DON'T NEED A PLAYER. Now if you want image design you just go to a terminal. That's a bad thing for ID players. lol. SOE is going backwards now.

I think you misunderstand what they are. These are *not* terminals so that people can image design themselves! We have been assured of that and unless something has changed recently this is still the case. They are there for image designers to use for a purpose that we don't know yet.

I don't really think it's fair to advocate "be a fanboi or get out" in a thread started by devs to promote discussion on the subject. I'm glad people are expressing opinions; it didn't occur to me to consider that these weren't very SW-esque til someone mentioned it in this thread. I'm aware we're getting "other ID things" (though not the things at the top of our list) but that doesn't mean I have to be impressed by or appreciate these. Moreover, it's impractical to expect IDers (and non-IDers) to be satisfied with dev time being spent on particle effects rather than things for which IDers have been begging since beta (not to mention broken core systems affecting large groups of people.) I worry that we will be handed these silly things, patted on the heads, told to be satisfied with our toys like good little girls, and not looked at again for another year.

I have a Master Image Designer as one of my charcters and I really enjoy the profession. But I must ask how dose this Eye Candy stuff help to experience the Star Wars life? I hope thereare three times more tattos then whats curently availible as those can be used in more aspects than a floating skull above your head. LOL I personaly find the images of the skull, bubbles and whatever the others were to be stupid and un-star wars.

I just hit a bunch of buttons and hope everything works out.

wow quite a few personal attacks out there... i'm treating this as a serious but nothing-personal debate/discussion. when its all said and done theres no reason to call others crap and whatnot.

i just got back from class and read through most of the replies. Let me sum up what i view as the fundemental issue for this debate as well as most other debates about this game...

Without a doubt, you can't make an entire game, let alone an MMO game with only the resources of the star wars movies; nor can you make a game such as SWG on such a large scale with even the EU added to the equation.

In order to fill in the gaps, the designers and artists and writers need to create new content. Fair enough. Now look at the game right now or even look at other star wars based games. They created content but content that wasa "reasonable extrapolation" ofSW+EU+Previous SW Games. They didnt add fire-breathing dragons or swords & magic because it would then be an "unreasonable extrapolation" of the existing star wars content. This is SUBJECTIVE; i know.

Now, there are some people who play this game for all the charactoristics that come with an MMO styled game. There are others who play this game for the Star Wars experience. Further, there are others who play it for both those reasons and there are others who I call "practicallists" who just want good, fun gameplay regardless.

1) For the people who play it for MMO reasons, i cannot argue with that. They pay the fees and present their opinions to the dev's and that is fine. I respect that.I disagree with them about how the game should be but that disagreement cannot be resolved because we both play the game for different reasons.

2) For the practicallists, I respect their opinion too but again my desire for the game disagrees with their desire at times; however, practicallist ideas can work with both MMO'er ideas and pro-SW ideas.

3) For the people who play this game for Star Wars, the issue is about defining a "reasonable extrapolation of SWUniverse". Defining a "reasonable extrapolation" is very subjective and this is where other differences arrise amongst our group. Generally these differences are small because all of us in this group share a common, fundemental goal, and therefore our thoughts and desires coincide often regarding specific issues. The bottomline though is that we choose StarWars first and believe that the game would have a much better experience with that philosophy in mind.

And thats how it finishes; or better yet, keepsgoing on and on and on. These differences will never be resolved no matter how much we debate.

Thats the end my debating over this specific issue.

.... Now....

In this post, i have officially defined 3 factions, political groups, or unions. The Socializers' Party, The Simpleists, and the Star Wars Fundementalists.

My thoughts have been slowly building up about the way this game presents star wars, and these image designer features have been the last straw....

I'm starting a Star Wars Fundementalists Party. We favor a pure Star Wars approach to designing this game as defined by a "reasonable extrapolation of existing star wars content and lore."

I know many of you are tired of the lack of star wars focus. If you want to help push this game in the right direction, email me at [email protected] and help the cause!

An additional holo-emote will be featured in this month's Newsletter (which should go out tonight or tomorrow).

I have subscribed to this Newsletter for a long time now, but have never once, in the year almost of this game being live, have I received it. How do I get this Newsletter?

Ok...what is the deal with these holo-emote things? I'm sure the IDs and players alike would have been perfectly content with the new hairstyles and the like, but why even THINK of putting stuff like this in? Please devs....no....please.

/sigh

Why oh why must my 15 bucks a month go toward PINK FLOATING KITTIES?!?

Wow.... I was pretty frightened as I was reading the first responses. I was thinking, "My god people.. You're saying "nice job devs" over floating kitties and music notes?". Luckily I'm not the only one who thinks that. I frankly think this is incredibly un-star warsy (yes it is a word.... sort of). It's really one thing to have weapons or armor not seen in the movie but this is just idiodic. I don't want to be running around the coronet starport seeing a hundred people spamming the skull emote with some crappy quote along with it as a macro or something. Please devs reconsider this stuff. I'm all for giving I.D's new styles, new things to modify etc. but this stuff is just plain stupid. I know I don't speak only for myself when I say this.

I'm speechless I don't know what to say. Who exactly is in charge of sitting around and thinking up useless features?

After seeing the original post, I got the idea that these were just visualizations of emotes; more like interface features than anything else. Something like the little blue "i" above certain NPCs heads. If you look at it that way, it doesn't really need much contextualization within the SW universe. In fact, I think it's a pretty clever interface design. But that's what it is. It's an interface design like chat bubbles, exclamation points over NPC's heads, etc.

That's where my problem lies: I don't see what it has to do with the Image Designer. I remember a quote from the profession forum that essentially said that, in the publish's time frame, we could get maybe 1 new hairstyle per race or these "particle effects." This is totally not what I was expecting from particle effects. I was under the impression that they'd be hair ornamentations to help further distinguish various characters. Again, as I think the holo-emotes are a clever interface device, they don't really work for me as "Image Design content." Had there been a vote, I would've voted for the 1 hairstyle.

Naturally I know this isn't the only thing coming with the mini-publish, but it definitely was touted as the "big feature." I just find it a little disappointing.

What the hell.

So this is what you have been doing with your time and OUR money. How about fixing the stuff thats broke instead of playing around with useless garbage like this.
