I feel bad for all the ID's who have to put up with all the BS in this thread. This is *their* forum and just because they got some Dev attention and showed up in Dev Tracker they have to have all this BS on their forum.

For al lthe ppl who wish this was a FPS *shove it!*. This is a MMORPG..that's right...ROLE PLAYING GAME. just because you're a *edit* in RL doesn't mean you have to roleplay one too!

I enjoy most of the new stuff put into this game, some of the stuff I don't care for and just ignore. But this, this is by far the most useless thing that has been put into the game thus far. I mean...what were you thinking? /shake I'm gonna start ranting, I'll leave that to someone else.

I just hope that there will be a way to turn this off, or I may have to play with the monitor off.

Although if there was a picture of Pacman above my head 3-D, that would be hardcore.

All right, just going to jump in here really quickly because I've seen so many people want to justify that these holos come from some small object crafted.

I think it's by and large assumed that Image Designers have the tools for their trade. Does my Wookiee grab the top and bottom of your ear and pull to enlarge your ears? Does she pinch your mouth with her fingers to make it smaller? Does she jump on your head to make you shorter?

No.

Even if no ID holo box is passed around from artisan to IDer to customer, you've got to let some things go. You just have to. Otherwise, 1/4 of your Small Tatooine Houses will be taken up by a bathroom. I haven't heard "well no one in Star Wars needs to go to the bathroom so we don't need lavatories".

I don't get it. Who's going to actively go out and pay an ID for these things after the first week or two of release? Would enough people be amused by them after seeing them once or twice to actually count as useful content. I picture the market for holo-emotes dropping below that of fireworks once the 'ooh, bubbles on my head!' reaction dies down, leaving IDs with not much more other than new colors and bug fixes to perk customer interest.

If IDs really wanted an income-generating feature that appeals to a large group of players, even non-entertainer types, they should have asked for an ability to make holo-recordings of items and characters (to be placed in houses and /examined to view stats). Even if it required them to use an Artisan-crafted holo-projector, I probably would have spent my Tuesday morning buying 10 projectors, grabbing a bunch of items from my house and pulling a couple thousand credits out of my bank to tip an Entertainer/ID for the service. I'll probably spend my real Tuesday morning checking the board to hear if any of the other ID content is notable.

You inconsolable buffoon-- this is a ROLE-PLAYING GAME, not a "roll-playing" game...

A "role" is something someone attempts to portray, a "roll" is something one does with dice. Only a pro-ID moron would make this mistake and actually post it where others could see. This is just the type of insipidity thhat is ruining America and has already ruined the rest of the world.

Damn *edit* I guess I corrected my typo before your 2 brain cells could type a response.

Only a moron wouldn't realize a typo when they saw it.

OMG.. not that the whole spelling correction thing isn't bad enough, but actually trying to make a political statement out of it? Now I know this guy is just a troll. Troll away somewhere else please. We don't serve your kind here...

I love reading the IDs replies to this thread. Has anyone else noticed that they added TERMINALS for image design. That means you DON'T NEED A PLAYER. Now if you want image design you just go to a terminal. That's a bad thing for ID players. lol. SOE is going backwards now.

The terminals are NOT USED to allow players to ID without an ID player present. Please check your information first.

I also want to agree with those that have pointed out that the IDs really do need attention and the ability to do new things. But the ability to "do new things" should always be measured against how Star-Warsy that thing is.

Sure, performers have notes and lights and whatever, but those make sense in their own contexts. I'm still a little confused as to what the proper context is for having a hologram of a pink cat float above your head. The Imperial logo at least looks more like the familiar holograms from the films, but again, why? Was there really ever a need for characters to have giant floating images above their heads?

This is an eye-roller, for sure. It has everything to do with adding something new to the game, nothing to do with making the world feel more like living in the Star Wars Universe. The fact of the matter is that most people playing this game are here for the license -- they've wanted to play a MMRPG set in the world of the films. I would love to see the IDs get more art, but is it unreasonable to ask that the new art fit into the tone of the license and the universe?

I know what bothers me about it now -- subtlety. It lacks subtlety. They have all the subtlety of an anvil. Giving IDs particle effects to deal with isn't a bad idea in and of itself. Little sparkles added to one's hair, for instance. An accent. A bit of fashion. Instead we have these giant, cartoony logos that hover over our heads. They're more like billboards than fashion statements. They're less like, say, holographic earrings and more like enormous holographic sandwich boards.

Sorry, I know some folks went to a lot of work for these, but personally, I hope they don't make it past Test Center.

I'm a Master ID'er here and I must say that I really really hope there are more really nice hairstyles and things coming up in this update... Like new hairstyles and all, thats what I was looking forward to. The bubbles and things just look silly to me, give me new long hair styles and more braid styles, and maybe even some different haircolors and highlights for more individualityplease... even some new short hairstyles will do and maybe new skin colors and such. I hope the update is better than it seems like its going to be.

I had to check to see if it was April 1st again already when I saw these screenshots because I couldn't believe my eyes. I do hope there is an option to turn this off. I am all for Image Design but this is Star Wars, not Barney's Funhouse. I'm not one of those people who hates things because they're "kiddy"; this just doesn't fit Star Wars. I'd say the same thing if we were fighting poka-dotted giraffes and solving remedial math problems to open doors, while some happy, simple music is gleefully playing in the background. Because that's the image I get when I see these emotes. I don't understand where this idea came from...

Again, please give us the option to turn them off clientside.

Thats my sentiment....I just can't help but wonder why they keep pushing RPG crap instead of the SW Universe...and how does the SW guy that approves all this keep his job?

Well....having had no experience with the SW EU due to lack of time mostly, I can't speak with any real authority here, but what I do have to say is this:

1st) the fact that the devs HAVE recognized that ID as a part of SWG (however vital or not) needs alot of work, and HAVE decided to put very valuable time and resources into bettering it, says something, so goodfor them and for us.

HOWEVER,if this is the best part of the ID revamp, then I gotta say that, like most players have said it seems,

IT NEEDS CONTINUITY!!It needs to makeSENSE!! Not that EVERYTHINGhas to have a perfectly rational explanation, but well, they COULD haveput little electronic headbands, wristbands, modules or just SOMETHING to make it seemthat the holos arebeing GENERATED by something. I'm anIT/IS admin and have had alot of experience with production programming environmentsand I'm fairly sureit wouldn't have been that hard.

I think my point is, that if when they decided to put this content in, they should have come up with a technological basis for it. It would have even expanded the game, content, economy, etc. Assuming of course that they either haven't done this yet or aren't talking about it yet.

Regardless, and high-level SOE and LucasArts corporatemotivations filtering down to the design and production teams aside, this is supposed to be an RPG, and you are supposed to become immersed in it. Immersion and the concept of a "livable Star Wars" is what sells this game, so make it IMMERSIVE!! Make it believable!! I was more immersed in Morrowind, a SINGLE PLAYER, limited interaction RPG, than with SWG. Nevertheless I love this game, just PLEASE work on making things believable, I guarantee you DEVS and Producers it will sell JUST AS MUCH, IF NOT MORE!!! Because it becomes more ADDICTING!!!

Its me again... having said my piece about the ID'ing update coming up, I just want to say that I really do love playing this game. I know its no easy feat to create a decent MMORPG that everyone will enjoy playing. I believe there is plenty of Star Wars in this game and anything that is in the game that wasn't in the movies is a good addition since its a fictional world that none of us have ever really lived in. So who's to say that alot of what is put into it makes it "cookie cutter" Maybe in a galaxy far far away there just may be people who take care of other people's appearance, God knows there are alot of them here on Earth. So Kudos to the developers for coming up with a class that is different from any that are in the other MMORPG's out there! I love making people happy by changing their appearances. I enjoy this class, so please make us some good new Do's
