I completely agree. I hate that my lekku stay in one place all the time.Very disappointing.
Has anyone said anything about changing this?
And again...as far as the hard drive goes...my computer is only used for SWG. ![]()
I don't suppose with all this new art and programming there's new Wookiee styles coming in braids or the like? My Wookiee hates what the swoop bike wind does to her headfur and thinks it would be ever so much more manageable if it were tied back a bit so it couldn't flap around to get tangled. ![]()

The truth is, I don't know if this is making it in. Last I heard, this is something we wanted to do, but there is a lag issue. If all the players in any given area are using particle effects at the same time, then frame rates are going down to the basement. Some things are possible, but not anything that is persistent. Any persistent effect has to be "optimized" so as to reduce the amount of necessary data that has to go back and forth between the server and the client.
Just looking at this from a technical standpoint for a moment....
Why does windblown hair have to be a client/server communication? Couldn't this be entirely handled and processed on the client side? In that case you might see your hair blowing different than how someone else sees it at the time, but I'd think that would be a small price to pay for reduced lag. That would place the burden solely on the client, which could cause problems for the video card in crowded ares, but surely that could be left to the character LOD manager or an ingame option?
Well, the use of particle effects is where the drag comes in because everyone has to get the data. In addition we could do wind-blown hair as a"standard hair" image, but for the most part,it would seem like that character just used a whole lot of space-hair spray
You *could* make it just client side, but that kind of defeats the purpose. The player becomes a legend in their own mind and the ID doesnt get any rep because no one sees their work...
*raised eyebrow* You might want to talk to your developers again... For wind blown hair you really only need a couple of pieces of data, most of which could easily live client side! The big data tiems would of course being the particle effects and hte hair style, but that could easily live client side if it was based of hte physics of wind. In which case, you only need to send out data when the wind changes. The other data that you'd need is proxcimity of other object aorund which, which you should have. Have the clients put all the data together for smooth effects... No need for the server to keep track of anything but the global effects, people, objects and wind... The particle effect should live client side and be adjusted to the globals.

On the bright side, we've been able to put a lot of "ID infrastructure" in, so if the particle effects that are in the game turn out well, we will be able to add things like this for the future. In any event, what I would expect is more of a temporary thing (which is actually better for IDs in the long run anyway). That is to say, get a particle effect from an ID, go play with it for a few hours and then *poof* and if you want another, then you will have to go visit an ID and get another one
Wow! Great News! Thank You
Party! Party! Party! Party! Party! Party! Party! Party!
How about Body Paints will they also be be temporary?
Again Thanks!

TH, im no ID but i would really like to see those imperial haircuts to make the hat fit be put in. how is that going? have you thrown that idea away? i think it would be great for RP and the such.
No, I have not forgotten, and Im bringing it up again with the devs on Monday ![]()
Its not an entirely "simple" thing though. You see, on your avatars heads, there is a hairline along theskull about 3/4's of the way downand we can't just let the Imperial hats be worn by anyone because ofthe way hats work. Most of the hats in the game are big hats. They are big hats because they have to cover that hairline, otherwise, you'd put a hat on and there would be a spot on your head like someone shaved a big bald spot there. Furthermore, aliens can't have the hat because the hat is so small that there has to be some hair attached to it to cover the bald spot in question, so an alien would put on the hat and their would be this weird patch of hair hanging from the bottom of the hat.
The trade off is that Im working with the team to make it so that humans can go to an Image designer and get "an imperial haircut" and then they can wear the hat. That would take care of all the art concerns.
Just make sure us Rebels can't get the haircut.

This is precisely what happens with the Chef hat on Mon Cals, if you want to see what it looks like.
