On the bright side, we've been able to put a lot of "ID infrastructure" in, so if the particle effects that are in the game turn out well, we will be able to add things like this for the future. In any event, what I would expect is more of a temporary thing (which is actually better for IDs in the long run anyway). That is to say, get a particle effect from an ID, go play with it for a few hours and then *poof* and if you want another, then you will have to go visit an ID and get another one
Wow! Great News! Thank You
Party! Party! Party! Party! Party! Party! Party! Party!
How about Body Paints will they also be be temporary?
Why you think the temporary nature is something to be so excited about?
Agreed. Seems to be the same failed pattern. "Well it will wear off so you'll have incresaed business!"
How many times have you had your droid painted?
How many times have you had your vehicled painted?
sure first couple of days people do it, then they realize it goes away in a few hours (yes i know its # of pulls)and its not worth the time or credits. Then they never do it again.
All it does is create features no one uses.

No, I have not forgotten, and Im bringing it up again with the devs on Monday
Its not an entirely "simple" thing though. You see, on your avatars heads, there is a hairline along theskull about 3/4's of the way downand we can't just let the Imperial hats be worn by anyone because ofthe way hats work. Most of the hats in the game are big hats. They are big hats because they have to cover that hairline, otherwise, you'd put a hat on and there would be a spot on your head like someone shaved a big bald spot there. Furthermore, aliens can't have the hat because the hat is so small that there has to be some hair attached to it to cover the bald spot in question, so an alien would put on the hat and their would be this weird patch of hair hanging from the bottom of the hat.
The trade off is that Im working with the team to make it so that humans can go to an Image designer and get "an imperial haircut" and then they can wear the hat. That would take care of all the art concerns.
woot, ty for the explination.
you rock the casbah.

"Hair accessories: Coming in the form of particle enhancements to existing hairstyles" - Pubish 8 preview
Does this mean when Pubish 8 gets released it'll upgrade our characters hair so it'll blow in the wind? and not look like plastic video game hair.

Well, I disagree that the hair in the game looks "plastic", but I will agree that getting that "wind blown" look is tough
The truth is, I don't know if this is making it in. Last I heard, this is something we wanted to do, but there is a lag issue. If all the players in any given area are using particle effects at the same time, then frame rates are going down to the basement. Some things are possible, but not anything that is persistent. Any persistent effect has to be "optimized" so as to reduce the amount of necessary data that has to go back and forth between the server and the client.

That's a good idea, TH! Somelike like that and maybe havingcharacters' hairblow in the sandstorms on Tatooine, or getting wet and matted during rain (maybe even making it stick after the storm wore off, to provide another thing Image Designers could be paid to fix?).
Edit: If it was an Imp only hair cut what would happen if they left the Imperial army? would they keep the hair cut or go bald?

May I just say? The one-star bandit needs to go AWAY. This is a serious thread and we do not appreciate detractors in our forum.
About the tattoo's... You wouldn't want them taking the place of clothes, because you'd have to find an ID to remove it before you could put some clothes/armor over it. Wouldn't be worth it. I think they would be done more like the markings done to races, Mon Cal and Twi'lek spots. It's got to be troublesome to make a tattoo for a wookie. All that fur. You wouldn't want a tattoo to get too stretched out just because the owner is fat either. But maybe if the 'clothes' for tattoos were made to be overlapped by the other clothes, like jackets and shirts.

A few questions.
This 'hair blow' effect will be server side so anyone within visual range of someone who have had this done to their hairs will see the hair blow in the wind.
And you (TH) say it isn't lag in the way DEVS use the word lag. Have you or any of the DEVS entered a Cantina on a friday night? Or done some travelling using shuttles and starships and then landed in Coronet and tried to head outside the spaceport?
There is severe lag there.
Also about the Tatoo's. I dont really see why this would be hard to set up. You mentioned something about every avatar is different which makes placing the tatoo hard. But can't tattos be treated as clothing and have the same restrictions? For example a chest/back tatoo is treated like a shirt. A upper arm tatoo is treated like a upper arm armor piece?
Will you add more of this 'particle' effect to work on other stuff then hair? Thinking of Twi'lek Lekku's? They are static all the time but I would think they would move more then hair does.
Anyway. Nice stuff for the ID and ID costumers.
Another game I played had tatoos in them. They were done like items of clothings. You put it on and the clothes that was in that spot ended up in your inventory.
Having Tatoo's to act like clothing would be a way to give ID something more. Like paints on vehicles and droids they would fade with use. I think vehicles get around 20 pulls from the datapad before the color of it fades back to the original.
If tatoos were made with a similar method and only a few locations for them were available, like upper arms, chest and back, ankles and such then they would take up the space of:
Upper arms: Sleeves (upper arm armor pieces)
Chest/Back: shirts, tops and other clothes that covers chests and backs
Ankles : Boots.
As for the stretching of the tatoo I think that would be up to the person who wish to have it. If they are fat and want a special tatoo on their chest or back and they dont like it, they can either replace the tatoo or have an ID change their bodyform (Not sure if that is possible to the ID's today)
Also there would be some restrictions to some tatoo's. like chest tatoos can't be worn by women due to nekkidness issues I guess. Back tatoos might be harder to make as I believe there are clothings for women that covers the front but leaves the back nekkid.
And as the tatoo is being pulled from datapad or inventory and put on the body it would fade and when it has faded completly it would be gone. And you had to go and visit a ID for a new one, creating a return market for them.
I think it can be done, and I think it is up to SOE to determine if they should put time on adding them based on player wishes and complexity
I'd like to see us Bothans be able to wear the Stormtrooper, AT-AT, TIE, and RIS helmets.
What the funk? Stormtrooper armour and for that matter ALL Imperial uniforms were designed to be worn by Humans. While Bothans should be able to wear the body and limb pieces, they should NEVER be able to wear the helmets, as they were not designed to be worn by Bothans. I don't know anything about the fluff behind RIS so I won't comment on it, but Bothans should also be unable to wear Mandalorian helmets. Mandalorians were Human, therefore, the helmets should only be wearable by Humans and Zabraks. Next you'll here a bunch of humans moaning about not being able to wear Twi'lek headdresses -_-

i think that is a good idea if you want to wear the uniform you gotta go get the shave...
